"Cartoons, Soul Train and American Bandstand were over!"
where I grew up, all those were on Saturday.
(that said, Bandstand was on the radio on Sunday mornings. tbf, the only reason I know that is bc, on Sundays, I worked alone at my HS job - and kept the radio on to keep me company.
so I accidentally know the german words to "Neunundneunzig Luftballons" out of sheer repetition.
all bc I was afraid of changing the radio station. (nk.)

The Wide World or Sports theme was ghost-written by Charles Fox (then 24 yrs old) for $500. That theme opened every show for all 33 years. Though Fox didn't receive screen credit there, it did lead directly to him writing the original theme for "ABC's Monday Night Football" and a host of other tv themes including "Love American Style", "Happy Days" "Love Boat", "Wonder Woman" and "Laverne & Shirley". Fox also wrote the Grammy winning song "Killing Me Softly With His Song" and was voted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2004.

This is NOT a slam on the poster... But was the sound really that muffled back then? Yeah, sure I know about copying VHS into digital. But still... Have our ears changed that much over time? Weird, as I move further forward into time, the recordings of the past seem to get worse and worse. Again, NOT a slam on the poster. It just seems like the sound quality may have been bad back then and we just didn't realize it. Even stuff from the 2000's seems to be "off" somehow when you look at it nowadays.
