  • As recorded from WTSP Channel 10 in Tampa/St Petersburg. I found this at a flea market in Polk County, FL.

The Wide World or Sports theme was ghost-written by Charles Fox (then 24 yrs old) for $500. That theme opened every show for all 33 years. Though Fox didn't receive screen credit there, it did lead directly to him writing the original theme for "ABC's Monday Night Football" and a host of other tv themes including "Love American Style", "Happy Days" "Love Boat", "Wonder Woman" and "Laverne & Shirley". Fox also wrote the Grammy winning song "Killing Me Softly With His Song" and was voted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2004.

Great opening with the host! We busted a gut. We miss WWS on Saturdays! We need to see it again to lift our spirits.

That wipeout was NOT from 1986. I grew up in the 70s watching WWS, and that jump was used then. This is an edited comedy clip- you can see the video quality change from the guy warming up to the actual jump footage.

There will never be anything like "ABC's Wide World of Sports" on TV again. I liked watching that show on some weekends. Also, I miss that Sunset 10 logo. If WTSP 10 News changes it's logo again, I'd love to see that logo return in some form.

Interesting how they not only keep that poor ski jumper in the montage for DECADES, but have fun with it to boot.

Awesome find. Based on the info provided, the telecast was from March 29, 1986.

Championship fights on free TV? Those are days that will never return!

Sadly, yes, which is why boxing has declined and popularity, particularly here in America. Mike Tyson‘s fastest knockout was on ABC wide world of sports in July 1986. Those days are a long gone. Unfortunately.

1:46 - no one's ever gonna see this anyway. Wanna Bet? Look at the WWOS intro when Jim McKay "...and the Agony of Defeat"
