Well done that was some achievement! Put some cardboard under the pedal and put a cloth over the front forks in case you have to break sharply. We've had two mountain bikes in the back of a VW Golf hatch however, here we go...I'm going to buy a 4 series Grand Coupe. Do you think we could get two mountain bikes in the back of the 4 door coupe with the wheels off? We've not owned a BMW before and wondered if you had some idea.

Very helpful clip. I guess a 56-road bike would be no problem as well. To fit in my time trial bike is essential for my next car, and fit in a second bike is almost a must. Cannot understand why almost all car specs and test reports tell you nothing substantial about trunk (boot) measurements. I would like to buy a 6 series gran coupe, but there is almost no information whether a bike fits inside the trunk or through the opening without taking off pedals or both wheels. I'm almost sure, one cannot put a bike between front and rear seats of a 6er Bmw, but in your car (front wheel off) i guess is possible.

6 GC is a big model so as a guess you should be ok to get your bike in the boot , I think to get two bikes in you might need to take the pedals off but that’s not too much hassle if you need to make them fit

Thanks for the vid bud. What happens if you put rear end in first but turn the bars to face down and not up…

I think it would fit as you described, there is a chance the bike would be leaning onto the brake lever during transit

Don't understand why the normal 3 series doesn't come with a hatch opening? Surely it's all pros with a hatch?

The new 2023 BMW M3 Touring is a hatch, but I agree, hatchs add some weight but they are much more versatile

I'm amazed that you could fit a bike in a saloon car at all let alone get it in without taking the rear wheel off! Does the M3 come with rear folding seats as standard or is it an option?

Hi yes it fits surprisingly well, it was important to me to have some space around the bike when its inside the car to avoid damaging the interior so that's useful to see in this video 👍 if you take the pedals off / have the bike in a bike bag you should be able to get two in, I think the M3 (F80) has Split seats as standard but I think it is an option on the same non M 3 series (F30) in the uk.

With the rear wheel first method could you noe just turn the handles the other way so it doesn't hit the top of the boot?

Good idea I will try it next time I put my bike in the car , I recently had a 218i GC as a loan car and my bike went in rear wheel first so maybe it will work on my 3 series if I give it another go

@@_jenks_ that's fair, I've got a VW UP which is TINY and I'm able to fit a 29" with the front wheel off, notably it is a tight squeeze but with the handles facing upwards and a brake insert there's minimal risk, with additional padding

Stop being cheap and get a rear hitch and bike rack.
Also if your bike gets wet from rain imagine putting that in your car and getting it all dirty

😆 Hi 👋 BMW didn’t offer the F80/2 from new with a tow bar due to the exhaust back box using the space that the tow bar would use. The only rear hitch option is aftermarket and the ones I have seen cut a small noticeable section out of the rear bumper and leave a permanent hitch that’s visible so I wasn’t keen on that.
There was a BMW factory option for some BMWs and MINIs to have “bike mount prep” installed, where a bike mount could be mounted to two hidden bumper mounts but I don’t think this was available on the F80 (if it was mine doesn’t have that option) There are other options like a roof mount or suction cups but this way suits my needs really well.
