- Salvadore Consolo of couple #1 is the son of the most popular contestants on YBYL, Betina Consolo, who appeared three weeks in a row to pursue her goal of snaring a new husband. I've posted two of her three appearances already here (the first and third, I don't have the 2nd appearance):
• You Bet Your Life #56-...
• You Bet Your Life #56-...
Another highlight is Carl Eddington of couple #2, a swimming instructor who demonstrates his sideline as an escape artist, leading to a totally unexpected action from Groucho I won't spoil here! Must be seen to be believed.
COUPLE #1: Nan Peterson / Salvadore Consolo, son of Betina Consolo
COUPLE #2: Nancy Moss, from Wahwatosa, WI / Carl Eddington, swimming instructor and escape artist

3m14s I love the determined look on her face when she shared what her plans were for her life. She was way ahead of her time on beauty contests.
This has to be "one" of the funniest YBYL épisodes. Merci pour le téléchargement. J'ai bien ri. Génial!
Iain Schofield is
These shows are great! Nearly sixty years old and the show is funny than the game shows shown now!
I feel the same way ..
Kevin Simmons absolutely correct
Kevin, in spite of the somewhat risque factor, this show (and other game shows of the time) remained fresh and wholesome. They still are that way today. In fact, this show and WHAT'S MY LINE? remain my faves...
In Aus we had Blankety Blanks, I think was based on The Match Game? With Graham Kennedy, our answer to Groucho, he was so funny too. I think it was on mid-late eighties before political correctness overtook it.

I'm about halfway though this channel, and this is one of the funniest episodes yet.
Thx for sharing all these gr8 videos from days gone by ! :-) Watched a lot of these as a kid together with my parents and grand parents! Super!
Nancy was a good sport with a great personality liked her the best of the two girls.
Lovely young woman.
Wow use to work at the north hollywood post office.. The Post Office is still in North Hollywood as I live near there now. I love these old shows.. Reminds me of watching them in the 1950's. No Reruns then.
Edie Koller I know, me too. Yes and no rerunds. If you watch TV you can see these and more on chanel 366
Sensational show
Nan b.1937 is now 83. She was a USC film student. I've been to Mitchell SD in 1986. Nancy M. what a 'lady' with a lovely handshake with Fennemen. I hope she had a successful marriage.
I was in SD also in 1986. With friends from Carpenter, Mitchell, Grand Rapids. I fished the James River.
In S Dakota she’s probably Scandinavian and a man needs a woman to keep him warm there. And she would be a bonus.
@@ronniebishop2496 I stayed in Carpenter SD June 1986....I rained 'toads'.
Mightymole I was in White and Brookings S Dakota in 2008 and it’s not like the west side at all.
I also was in Mitchell SD in 1986. Stopped on my way to start a life in California. All I remember is the Corn Palace.
Ohhh, Namcy , Naancyyy !!! And all of 19 sweet years . Ohh, my heart hurts .
I can't believe the first couple didnt get the Heatwave song, I knew it and I wasnt even born then..lol
Hillarious when George was trying to find a Rated PG way to tie up Nancy!
Great entertainment .
GROUCHO HAD LOTS OF FUN WHILE HE WAS ENTERTAINING AND MAKING MONEY AT THE SAME TIME...SO VERY WONDERFUL
I LOVE him...alll the marcs brothers
What a pretty girl.
This has to be one of the craziest nd funniest episodes. It really was entertaining.
I love the way Groucho puts these pretty girls on his show. so lovely.
Not a unique quality in any sense.
@@Spokenwisdom1 C'mon.. She was lovely. And I like brunetters, generally The second girl was very charming, too. And pretty. Both had beautiful smiles.
One of the most enjoyable parts of watching this show for me is seeing all of these "babes of yesteryear," and hearing Groucho come off with lines that no commercial network would let anyone get away with these days. Among these young women are both Nan Peterson and Nancy Moss. I do have one question about Nan Peterson, though: It seems as if her "partner," Salvadore Consolo, knew the answer to "Biding My Time," but she just didn't want to listen to him--and they lost their chance at the "big money" as a result. Could anyone detect whether he really was trying to tell her the correct name of this song from the 1930's?
Yes, agreed
She was the only real contestant, it seems. It's hard to hear, but Salvatore seemed to say it was "The Man I Have", which is wrong. But she knew already that what she said was wrong and she chose to not saying anything and lose instead of give his suggestion. Funny. She's just one of those girls who gets rubbed the wrong way so easily and will carry that 30 times around the world.
Lol.groucho was sharp as a tac
"I'm a swimming instructor"
"Did you bring any water?"
Hilarious
@thelolmaster1997
YES🤣
Usually Groucho encourages co-operation between the 2 contestants. But here he allows the Norwegian woman to answer all the song titles by herself! During "Biding My Time" the guy tries to talk to her but she ignores him most of the time.
He should have been more assertive.
I found her quite repulsive, a cute shell can cover rotten filling.
@@ErectedGasCan I think she threw the contest on purpose. Her only goal was to get exposure for film work, which she did. She threw poor Sam under the mail truck because he liked women who were down to earth and she thought it was insulting..
@@ErectedGasCan I totally agree. She was vile.
"When money comes through the door, love goes out the window."
Back in the day Groucho was a member of Hillcrest Country Club in L A. There were complaints about men playing golf without their shirts on hot summer days. So the club put a sign up on the 18th tee that shirts must be worn on the 18th hole as it finished coming into the clubhouse. Groucho saw the sign and immediately took his pants off and played the last hole with his pants off but his shirt on.
That'll fix them.😆😆
All the Marx Brothers were born in Manhattan, N.Y.
Even I recognized the. Heat wave song! Grumpy old men.
That blonde with Salvatore was stuck up. Poor Salvatore with her didn't get one question right
She didn't like his nose? maybe she didn't like italians?
She was absolutely beautiful and she just said she didn’t want to be simple and my lord how could she ever be. But for him to say that was really just asking for it lol.
@@marvinmartian7281 säalvatore looks like italian-jews
Her stubbornness lost them both the game.
“Since postage went up to 4 cents.”
another Mystery Science Theater 3000 coincidence here... Nan Peterson was also in the movie Girls Town featured in episode 0601 of MST3K. The coincidence is this is the very next episode of MST3K after the one that had Frances X. Bushman who was also a contestant on a show in season 8 of YBYL.
This guy would have made a good actor. Has that Gregory Peck aura..
“I don’t want to be simple.” Excellent.
Simple does mean 'less' it means consider others more than yourself. The beginning of the breakdown of 'families'. No loving husband would ever not want the best for their help mate.
I took it to mean simple as in uncomplicated and not simple as in stupid. But I'm a Brit, so what do I know?
@@theoakhills Simple just means basic. The opposite of complicated, IDK where your from, but I'm not following you.
Universities should not be country clubs for the rich but centers of learning. The focus should be on hiring and retaining a professional instructional staff, supporting research, and providing programs which enhance
Groucho liked the younger women. His marriages were with much younger women.
Oh yes Salvatori new the song was biding my time and I saw him say it I could read his lips but she was obstinate. It is interesting to note that she said she didn’t want to get married and I don’t know that she ever did get married she’s about 82 years old now but has made quite a name for herself in teaching. She went back to Minneapolis Minnesota and you can find information about her online. She became a good actress playing a lot of twilight zones and a famous horror picture. She appeared with stars like Jack Carson. Nan was honored for her work in teaching. She was 21 years old when she was on the Groucho show
M.H. Nude...I agree with you that Salvator did know the answer and she was Indeed obstinate which is putting it lightly.
It was clean and it is not like today
The moment Nacy appeared, I thought she looked like my high school sweatheart. I should never have let her go!
same for me.....RJ was a cute thing. (1988) I should have never let her go!
Go find her!
Did you tell your wife that?
Wow. Those were the days.
Nan Peterson may have been better looking, but Nancy Moss is the girl that I would have liked to have wound up with. Such a good sport and utterly delightful.
Girls in those days appreciated a compliment. These days are going to sue you over something. Times were better then.
Well, Nan didn't like the idea of a woman being "simple", as suggested by Salvatore.
Grocho, the origional funnyman, no scripts needed,, all adlib and great performer! Well liked by everyone,, except for those fuddy-duddy old ladies that thought every "off color" joke was lockerroom filth,, Grocho was tamed by gorgeous women!!!
Actually it’s really bad today with all these screwballs looking for some reason to be offended.
I guess Miss Nancy was the best, perhaps the only, incentive for anyone in Las Vegas to watch the weather forecast !
And isn't it refreshing to see that in those days innocent fun was nothing more than just that. Imagine the scandal if a TV host tried to get tied up with a contestant nowadays...
Re: escape artist, he kept his legs ~2 feet apart when they began to tie him up. Then when he began the escape, he jumped up and down one time hard so the rope became loose and fell a bit. Also, the rope probably stretched a bit.
Nan Peterson went on to become a Hollywood bit actress, appearing in numerous minor roles, including three episodes of "The Twilight Zone".
Which lady was she?
@@Johnny53kgb-nsa She's the blonde at the beginning of the show. Her Twilight Zone episodes now number 4, insofar as yet another uncredited role has been identified. Here's a great shot of her in her very first role as Trudy Osborne in the horror/sci-fi film "The Hideous Sun Demon" (1958). www.imdb.com/name/nm0677320/mediaviewer/rm3480983553/
@@jimmiedee2315 wow, no wonder Grocho was all tore up, lol
14:30 A funny shot at tying the knot ie. marriage
They had such good sports...Grouchos mind was constantly thinking of one liners he was a master..I have noticed some stuff that would not be politically correct today. .it's strange today there are no holds barred on some things but on others not
Gratulation
she is lovely
he looks like Sean Connery
Sounds like him too!!
Seeing Nan on an episode of Rawhide brought me here.
“Don’t you consider the female a hobby?” Vintage Groucho. If he said that today he would be cancelled.
But Groucho was joking. Men today aren’t joking.
@@CD-db1zo John’s right! You can’t speak the truth today without being cancelled. Spread propaganda and you’re promoted.
Nan Peterson went on to have a moderate career in acting, but she was in multiple Twilight Zones.
The secret word was “food” and the first couple talked about a smorgasbord without saying “food.”
At 3.20 the contestant tells him she does not think that just looking good in a Bikini should be something a girl needs to do, only him to reply you try not wearing one and see what happens…..genius
I knew I'd seen her before. She's in The Hideous Sun Demon, made famous by Riftrax.
Interesting how he always asked contestants if they're married. And if not tries to ship them
Musial got his 3000th hit in May,1958.
Interesting one guest was a magician, and the name David Copperfield was referenced. Of course, not in the way of illusion, but none the less.
I’m in Wauwatosa Wisconsin
18:23 “I have news for you - I have no desire to get out!”
I wonder how many beauty contests it takes before you realize that they’re foolish…….14??
Jay Leno is remaking this show "You Bet Your Life" in September, let's see if he pays tribute to the great Groucho or doesn't say a word about him and act like this is his baby! We'll see...
Mercy.
I suspect Groucho helped select the contestants. I've notice quite a few beautiful young ladies. Not that there is anything wrong with that....
+1BEAVIS13 Groucho had nothing to do with selecting the contestants. He made a special point out of never meeting them before the show, because he felt it would hamper the spontaneity.
I read somewhere that he thought he was at his best when he ran "cold", i.e. complete strangers - spontaneous reactions.
His quick-wit was just incredible.
The first girl what a dish
She seemed very high maintenance.
The second girl is Dawn.
Alright: tap "thumbs up" if you agree the lovely blond Nan P was rudely ignoring Salvatore. I practically read his lips & he said the right answer twice. She's a hot...mess.
He was ticked.
When Groucho would hear one say the right answer, he would usually say, "what did you say" even if the other answered first.
Well take a look !
A bit before my time but back when women were happy to be ladylike.
Marilyn Willett ... And decorative. Groucho would get canned today for saying some of these things.
@@Codswallop58 Perhaps by the PC scum, but he has 2 things massively in his favour to stop censorship he is a Pro Israeli (Zionist) Jew of well known connections.
They also seemed to be far more comfortable with themselves. They appeared to live more in reality than in their heads.
the classics
Salvatore got a little testy with George at the end but I think it was out of frustration because the snotty blonde didn't want to listen up him, so they lost.
Not want to mix race
She seemed okay until she didn't like the guys idea of a "simple" woman.. intellectuals.

The body language made me cringe.

@@theoakhills Thanks for the capital input
There is an outtake from this episode that wasn’t aired that is one of Groucho’s greatest:
Groucho: “Well now, suppose you became a famous actress, then you met somebody you liked and got married, would you be willing to quit acting and be a housewife and a mother?”
Nan (blonde): “Well, I think if you keep your feet on the ground, you can combine both. That’s what I would like to do.”
Groucho: “Well, if you keep your feet on the ground, you’ll never be a mother.”
🤣
(Nan Peterson was so beautiful, but I have to say, that is an ill-fitting wig.)
On the game where they try to identify music tunes, I don't recall anybody ever winning on that one. That would be a tough category with
too much risk involved.
Dream gurl Nancy.
WAUWATOSA.
She has such a nice laugh and a good sport. She is not a psycho like 90 percent of the woman today. In side they crave for a man to give them attention but are too messed up because of simple mindedness by following women's equality in 100% of everything, that they are losing out on true happiness, joy and a full life with a good man. They deserve now what they don't get.
Zane Grey lived in Oregon on the Rouge River near Grants Pass. What a 'lady' she is.
007
This woman is ahead of her time politically.
I hope she stayed single...us men need a house mate.
He didn’t know Stan Musiel (Mickey Mantel?)! Unbelievable.
in the thumbnail i thought she's marilyn.
No, that's my father - haha, funny.
That swimming instructor sure set off my gaydar.
poetcomic1 same here
So why is your gaydar ON?
Well he's a...swimming instructor. I doubt that pays very much. Game over.
They wore dresses.
Been looking for this episode (where Groucho ties himself up with a 17 year old girl, Nancy Morris, ever since I first saw it in 1986. Where on Earth did you ever find these?
Didn’t she say 19?
This was filmed even before my parents were born & I knew it was Stan Musial
Just keep jumping up and down Nancy.
The 1st beautiful lady would be in her 80s and if you're out there, hello! The 2nd was 19 in 58, so I think she'd be 82 now.
Nan is 83, and still going strong.
4m7s "Simple" did he ever put his foot in it!
please don't cut intro out
I notice many of the women coming on his show we’re going for the Marilyn Monroe look
Frankincensed I love your Frank Zappa image.
Well most likely millions tried but no one ever came close.
Frankincensed isn’t that funny? I’m sure ppl will say that about kardashians. 50 years from now.
19:22 Miss me, honey. LOL
The couple that won the big 1000 dollar prize ? in reality they won 8,500 dollars (accounting for inflation) in today's 2020 money!..or 4,250 dollars each!
The blond is a difficult woman.
I think I read she wound up working stag movies and after that she was working the corner pf Sunset and Gower.
He looks a bit like burt Reynolds
Have we lost are sense of humor?
