    That was awesome! Of course Miss Greta stole the show, just like my grandson would do! Go kids! We had 5 yucca plants put in by the previous owners. We uprooted 3 yucca and tossed them in the burn pile. So they sat as we added to our burn pile over the next couple of months. Now those 3 yucca we cut and threw in there are sprouting! They're like the Terminator, they won't quit! Also, we now have 5 sprouts growing up where the 3 we pulled were growing before we uprooted them. We're frustrated! Hopefully a serious weed killer in the trunk and roots will do! So many thanks for showing us that!

    Thank you for this video. I have a group of yucca in my front yard that I keep the spikes pulled off so they look like palm trees and I like this look. They've been there for years and yr after yr a big old trunk dies off and crumbles but impossible to get out of the ground. You've shown how. Thank you. Pull those suckers up with my SUV. Dred pulling up all those vine roots.

    That was fantastic, my yukkus have been two stories high and spread out extremely wide. Took 10 years to get like that.

    Good Stuff! I cut 4 down at my mom in law's yesterday (offshoots from the original stump), drilled lots of holes in the stump and poured in the weed killer. I'll re-treat again and see how we look in a couple of weeks. The original stump was cut pretty low a few years ago but i'll deal with it. More in two weeks when I try and pull it. Great video!

    Great video Rob. I always wondered if this type extraction with root killer would work faster close to the fall season when the plants sap is moving down to the roots. It may not but it always made sense to me.

    Just one thing, never tie onto the tow ball, always use a rated tow hook or shackle- seen some nasty accidents if the tow ball snaps - be fine with a yucca but anything bigger might end badly. Also use a long rope as sometimes they sling shot out if the roots are well imbedded. Great tips
    Rob.

      I know this is an old comment, but another thing you can do is use Amsteel Blue or dyneema rope. When it snaps it just falls limp, instead of springing back like a whip.

    For our yucca I have to take them on with a 16lb. digging bar. We don't get the wide trunk. I have so much to get rid of. They gravitate to wherever I am growing plants and they're predatory to trees, etc.

    Does the yucca have to be that loose to determine if its dead? I used heaps of pure roundup around my yuccas for 3 weeks, soaked the cut trunk too.. but they still feel solid? They were not big plants either

  • @deborahbrancheau1373
    @deborahbrancheau1373 2 года назад +1

    Get video on how to get the yucca out. Liked and subscribed! But I would have saved it by potting them, selling them for $100/ea or giving them to friends. If you put them in pots, they won't grow any larger and they are literally zero maintenance. You can even hide the pot in the ground so that it looks like it's planted. :)

    • @TheSethhunt

      It would have been an auger bit. A halfway decent 13mm metal twist bit would go through yucca like butter

    Just so people know, the trunk cuttings can be placed in dirt and sprout into more yuccas.

  • @SandsDaw
    @SandsDaw 5 лет назад

    Well I have one of those green/yellowish yuccas that the former (dumb) owner of my property planted within 300mm gap between the veranda slab and 1m retaining wall. Sprouted out with 4-5 large stems pretty thick to a total grown-out space of about 700mm wide. Cut down to a bit of the stems up.. drilled, put in super concentrate (max) killer (Roundup). I am about to replace this 1m retaining wall and the idiot prior owner also put in golden cane palms (will do it to those too). See what happens in two weeks time.

    Can't believe you cut down and destroyed that amazing Yucca. That was the nicest plant of any visible in this video, and it had an amazing trunk. You should have just pruned up the leaves to expose trunk and just left a few leaves on top. Sad sad sad. This is a terrible video.
