@@Kevin_Theadore1 Yes. Young girl, the “blood” red hood, alone in the woods, a “wolf” drawing her off the path. I think in the original stories, the wolf chases and attacks her and she “dropped her bouquet of flowers”. It’s all symbolism. It’s the Grimms fairytale that gently warns young women not to travel alone and trust just anyone.
is not about rape. She's starting to explor her sexuality. A raped person would not say"EXCITED and scared". when she say "grany is right, just be prepared" it means that her mind is prepared. After she lost her virginity with a stranger who seduced her.. This is the point of the story, do not give yourself to anyone, cause he may be an evil wolf (in the play the prince and the wolf are the same actor, two faces of the same being).
"He made me feel excited- well excited and scared." Anyone else feel extremely uncomfortable? P.S. I know it was meant to make us feel uncomfortable because of the whole deal with people learning to not trust strangers blah blah blah I get it.
"And he swallowed me down, down a dark slimy path where lie secrets that I never want to know" Yeah, I don't want to know them either. So glad I'm not the only person that thinks some of these lyrics are weird.
Taryn Watson I've always found the story of little red riding hood to be very questionable. Idk a wolf who stalks a little girl in the woods to eat her and her grandmother as a way to scare kids from straying the path. Grimm was always dark so Idk I always got a very creepy vibe from this story.
Well, this song was more of a theme closer than a plot point. Much like how we could have simply alluded than Johnny was interested in Red and that red and the wolf even met. However these moments have songs because there is a theme that is implemented in these songs when played back to back. To bring it to a real and modern setting, the wolf is representing sexual predators and red a potential and resulting victim. 'Nice isn't always good.' Taking it in that anyone can seem nice however not everyone has good intentions. It's themes like this that really draw a lot of people to the play, me and my drama teacher included.
+kimmie Wise "To bring it to a real and modern setting, the wolf is representing sexual predators" The wolf was representing sexual predators since the very first recorded tellings of the tale. See www.pitt.edu/~dash/type0333.html#perrault where the story's first recorded version in 1697 ends with the moral: "Children, especially attractive, well bred young ladies, should never talk to strangers, for if they should do so, they may well provide dinner for a wolf. I say "wolf," but there are various kinds of wolves. There are also those who are charming, quiet, polite, unassuming, complacent, and sweet, who pursue young women at home and in the streets. And unfortunately, it is these gentle wolves who are the most dangerous ones of all."
But the story ends right after the wolf eats red riding hood no huntsman and sometimes little red riding hood is saved before the wolf eats her and lola or omma is digested. Now think if into the woods was written with little red riding hood digested what than no red hood plot twist to a tale does the witch come early what happens to the other characters than I wonder we are adding the musical not disney's version. Let's have a dark twist like little red riding hood my version more realistic version.

This is my favorite version of the song. Her voice just sounds so perfect. In addition, I like how they had Little Red sing the song to the Baker in this movie unlike the musical. I feel like it builds a tiny bit more to their relationship.
Mother said, "Straight ahead" Not to delay or be mislead I should have headed her advice But he seemed so nice And he showed me things Many beautiful things That I hadn't thought to explore They were off my path So I never had dared I had been so careful I never had cared And he made me feel excited Well, excited and scared When he said, "Come in!" With that sickening grin How could I know what was in store? Once his teeth were bared Though, I really got scared Well, excited and scared But he drew me close And he swallowed me down Down a dark slimy path Where lie secrets that I never want to know And when everything familiar Seemed to disappear forever At the end of the path Was Granny once again So we lay in the dark 'Til you came and set us free And you brought us to the light And we're back at the start And I know things now Many valuable things That I hadn't known before Do not put your faith In a cape and a hood They will not protect you The way that they should And take extra care with strangers Even flowers have their dangers And though scary is exciting Nice is different than good Now I know: Don't be scared Granny is right, Just be prepared Isn't it nice to know a lot! Absolutely. I got that when I saw the way the wolf looked at her the first time I saw the musical. He just screamed sexual predator.
The entire original fairytale is that metaphor.
@@Fledhyris Hence why they made the "predator" a wolf.

In the Broadway musical the wolf was naked so this sounded perverted
