Hey Dave.... Just enjoying watching you fish. You're always such a consistent fisherman Good to see you having fun and enjoying what you like to do. Thanks for taking me along. Need a short paddle to skull that back end around.
Your knowledge of the fish and the gear you're using is priceless. Most RUclips fisherman never tell you about the gear and how to use it or the type of fish there catching and what they'll bite on. Keep up the great work and videos 👍👍👍
What I found works better than just plain j hooks with live bait is the kale hook It's kind of like a circle hook and you get a better hook set when your tight lining or suspended bait fishing like you're doing today
In the Susquehanna River in Pa the river muddies up after a good rain. When that happens, the dang crayfish are king and will tear cut bait to shreds. I use 5-to-6-inch live sunfish. that can keep away from the crawdads. 27 or 28-inch channel cats are the average catch using sunfish. I prefer green sunfish if I can catch larger ones. I think the slime on green sunfish helps catfish inhale them easier and so are favored. When the river clears back up and the crayfish are back to hiding under rocks again, I like to use 6+ inch shrimp and the cats prefer them peeled.
Curse of the 3" bluegill. Can't keep them in the water long enough for flatheads around here. Those 3-5 pound channels hit them as soon as they're dropped and of course we have a good gar population too. We do have big channels here though, but still got to weed through the gar and little ones for those too. Bullheads are on the menu here but they're not as good here like I see from the other states. Gar are like piranha and where there's gar there are usually flatheads. Lately some of the best cat holes I've ever fished have been taken over by beaver and that makes for a rough night in the kayak, they harass you until you leave and you'll be soaked from tail slaps the whole way home.
I injoy watching your videos i cat fish a lot but i started watching your videos i learned a hole lot more i didnt know dont have a boat yet but i will soon
Sounds like it might be time for a good fly rod with all them mayflies. I sat one time in a kayak with a fly rod and about a 100 feet from the boat ramp and caught brim for about three hours. In one foot of water and caught them as fast as I could pull them in. I had a blast just sitting in one spot. I just enjoyed catching fish. Every once in a while you catch something else because fish can’t resist a good piper. I have caught of course bluegill, bass and catfish off a poper using a fly rod. Life is good God bless.
My problem using live bluegill (from the bank) is exactly the opposite of yours. I can put one on a hook. Eight hours later, it's still there and alive. Absolutely nothing wants them.
Try it by the bank, not all Rivers are like the tenn, its one if the best. Every big flat i catch in our small river is right by the bank like less than 5 ft or just at the dropoff. Either your not putting it where they are or they arent there. Move
Hey Dave, can you do a video using Water Dogs or Salamanders for bait, please? We used to use water dogs all the time in Nebraska when I was growing up and then were the most productive bait we used for catfish back then. I'd love to see how they work in the Tennessee river!
Hey Dave Thanks for the nice long video, I enjoyed it. Hope the big ones start to bite again before too long. Anyways, good luck and have fun doing what ya do.
Dave I love the way you fish and how much passion you have for the sport and just your overall expertise is second to none. I just found out about your channel but I’m a fan from here on out and by the way your commentary is freaking hilarious
Hey Dave, We don't have skip jack up here in Iowa, so we have to use bill-gills or shad for bait. That may be why you are getting so many blue-gill comments.
HINT: Perhaps putting a large black yard bag over your boat chair when you park it will keep the rain from soaking into the padding??? Not that I mind your wet back end.
Besides the 80lb you caught on the Chattahoochee the night the people on the pontoon boat wanted you to get their ball, what's the largest flat head you've ever caught?
Lol He is annoyed as hell using those bluegills! The heat sucks I get out there the crack of dawn am gone by 10am. Still great video always entertaining!
Another entertaining video Dave, I'm sure I detected real annoyance when your salad got splashed. I would have finished it, or is the water too polluted?
Hey Dave I enjoy your videos, y’all need to be happier. You are blessed that you are physically able and have the wherewithal to fish and make videos. God Bless and keep doing what you do. Finally you have a hoot when you got those bluegill 🎣
Love the sounds of your videos...the unmistakable sound of an aluminum net hitting the side of the boat. The outboards whining as they go by, the rods knocking around. It makes me feel like I am there. Thanks for the videos and for the complaining.
The trouble with using a bluegill for bait where I live, is that it is against the law to use a "game fish" for bait. A "game fish" is defined as any fish species in the state that has a creel limit. The creel limit for bluegill in my state is 50 per person, and this makes them a "game fish" that can't be used for bait.
Hi Catfish Dave, I asked you about Mad Katz on the last video do you have any used or new rods and reels that you would like to sell? I know a few months back you had some rods for sale, did you sell them? Now I know that it was months back and it’s old news on those rods. Man I can’t wait till deer season it’s to dam hot out right now. Thank you for your time on the water
Hey dave, we've watched you for going on 3 years now i guess maybe more and enjoyed it. But we fish pickwick lake when we get a chance to go and we fish with bleugill all the time but use them as cut bait and do pretty good some times, but we've never saw you fish with them as cut bait and always wondered why?
My only complaint is I wish my thumb was sore from catching all those monsters LOL!!! Love all your vids, I'm 59 and have fished for catfish all my life, mostly bank fishin, but you have showed me a very good Technique from a boat that I will always remember from now on!!! Thanks Dave and Keep up the good work!!!
Your exactly right on the blue gill. Go fish for them and then loose most of them. Either die or wiggle off the hook or something kills it. And last but not least you might actually catch a fish.
Darn Dave.... you getting heat stroking mad😮😂and hangry. Wear a hat cat. That's where is at Jack. Quit making Waves Dave, and set yoself free😂😊 A loose, light, light colored hat with plenty of air ventilation holes and a large brim. Keeps you from over cooking in such heat.
There comes a time when the mayflies comes out. we are here and Indiana and we call it may fly night when that happens. Do you wanna be out there with one fishing pole, you have to go out every day know what this nights coming when you’re saying I like you are right now it’s probably right around the corner. Most mayflies come out to breathed. and then die, leaving a lot of food for bait fish to eat, which turns out the big cats we’ve caught up to 35 big flathead catfish, not counting the blues and Channela. call using 1 fishing pole Peace
Just seen this video, last week I caught a little 5" pumpkin seed on my ultralight set up while casting. Used it for bait on my catfish rod. Within 2 minutes it got smacked, and I mean hard, the critter was peeling off line like a two man submarine. Ended up snapping the 20 Lb test leader line. Gills make good catfish bait, size doesn't seem to matter, but to me the smaller gills get hit more often as they can fit the entire fish in their mouth. I also cut the dorsal fin to about 1/4" from fish body (doesn't beeld out), I also add a 1/0 stinger hook for good measure, helps on those short biters.
Your wrong is ads backwards dude. Weight to the bottom leader on a swivel rig above the weight, One hook diagonally through tail, second hook diagnaly through side under dorsal with barbs pointing to the rear. Always poke out one eye on live bait, the wounded fish is always the fish that gets eaten first.
Everytime i put a baby crappie or baby bass on my rod i catcha fatty. blue gills hit too. i never fish live bait. i butterfly the bluegill. Blood and gore, and drop em down. much love from oklahoma uncle dave
Theres not a single "Complaining Dave " video ...i mean Catfish Dave video that he dont complain like a little cry baby. If its so bad , just stay home and stop fishing Dave. People hate hearing you whine.
Sounds like trying you trying to keep a live blugill on a hook there is like trying to keep a worm on a hook in certain spots withouy little bait stealers nibbling it to death. Also, ya im not sure about the morning fishing hype. I my lines in the water about 645am yesterday and caught another channel cat. Yes i got him early, but I have also caught one or more when starting in the afternoon and staying about an hour after dark.
"My thumb's tore up from handling all these fish" Good problem to have? I remember having my shoulder sore from reeling heavy fish one time, that was a great day!
It would be great if you could take a vacation to California come and do some fishing here we could show you the areas where the different fish are, if you want the fight of a lifetime I would suggest ocean fishing and either catching tuna or yellowtail they will kick your butt I once got embarrassed by a yellowtail there were seals around the boat trying to eat the fish brought in I hooked up a yellowtail that probably was only like 18 pounds I guess a seal was chasing him but I had my drag set pretty tight and it felt like I was hooked to a racing boat that was ripping out my line I was really surprised that the fish was only 18 pounds !
bluegill are so easy to catch lol, never really thought about using the bigger ones for bait, maybe ill try it next time i go fishing and see if i catch a monster cat with it
I'm sure you know but if you cut them bluegills tail fin off and the back bottom fin they won't be able to swim as fast away from what's trying to eat them. I found it to work really well.
Whining like a little spoiled kid ain't nothing suits him unless it is a big one and all the while catching good fish.....this fella don't know how good he has got it .......tickles me to listen to him
You're one of the most knowledgeable fisherman I've seen so far
When you get too old to fish you could give stand-up comedy a try. You are a funny guy. Always enjoy your videos.
I love his style of humor
Attach a note to the tail of the bluegill telling the blue cat it's only for flatheads maybe they'll leave it alone
Ok so im not the only one...lol i thought this was kinda fishy!
Did I win something Dave I don't really understand how to contact you or is this a scammer
@@larrywalker3137 thats a scammer bro
@@larrywalker3137 dont text that number
Yes I figured that out very quickly thanks for the info though I appreciate it
you sure gripe a lot. like fishing with my wife
That's funny cuz here you are griping like my husband. 😂
Dave do you ever eat fish of Any kind?
Hey Dave.... Just enjoying watching you fish. You're always such a consistent fisherman Good to see you having fun and enjoying what you like to do. Thanks for taking me along. Need a short paddle to skull that back end around.
lol rod bends into the water "we might have a bite on that rod" man you crack me up thanks for sharing great to watch someone who has mastered the art
Your knowledge of the fish and the gear you're using is priceless. Most RUclips fisherman never tell you about the gear and how to use it or the type of fish there catching and what they'll bite on. Keep up the great work and videos 👍👍👍
Agreed. Why I like Richard Gene too.
Richard Gene needs to stay away from the coffee.
Man you make it look so easy that's some nice fish.
Nothing like burning up on a boat, I hate summer fishing aswell.
What I found works better than just plain j hooks with live bait is the kale hook It's kind of like a circle hook and you get a better hook set when your tight lining or suspended bait fishing like you're doing today

The scenery reminds me of Grand Lake.

He would rather Bitch about everything. That is the only thing that makes him truly happy!
Thief!
Dave I love the way you fish and how much passion you have for the sport and just your overall expertise is second to none. I just found out about your channel but I’m a fan from here on out and by the way your commentary is freaking hilarious
Appreciate the hours you devote and the gas you burn. Lucky you’re not paying California prices.
Hey Dave,
We don't have skip jack up here in Iowa, so we have to use bill-gills or shad for bait. That may be why you are getting so many blue-gill comments.
If it's legal in your state you should try live crappie or live gizzard shads!
Dave what type of camera do you use
When the head starts hurting. I'm headed to the easy chair an some cold ac
volume all the way up barely can hear you over the air conditioner
How many fishing rods do you have Catfish Dave?
Somebodys a little grumpy today. Why cant you keep a small anchor for times like this
Thanks for the fishing adventure. 👍👍👍👍👍.good luck next time 💪
Why the big deal about throwin the blues back? They all eat?
HINT: Perhaps putting a large black yard bag over your boat chair when you park it will keep the rain from soaking into the padding??? Not that I mind your wet back end.
Dave the next time you try using bluegill cut them in half and see if the hook up ratio is a lot better
I cut the tails off and use a 10/0 circle and slay em
Slice & Dice ⚔, they love a blue gill head just the same.
Besides the 80lb you caught on the Chattahoochee the night the people on the pontoon boat wanted you to get their ball, what's the largest flat head you've ever caught?
Catfish Dave. The angry fisherman.
I think the water is that bad there. It's all(the Tennessee River system) downstream from Oak Ridge!
Hey Dave I enjoy your videos, y’all need to be happier. You are blessed that you are physically able and have the wherewithal to fish and make videos.
God Bless and keep doing what you do.
Finally you have a hoot when you got those bluegill 🎣
Love your videos and the Tennessee River is awesome. I live in Arkansas and their is lots of huge catfish in the Arkansas River.
Along that bank there used to be a lot of downed trees. My dad and I used to catch Crappie all along there.
Love the sounds of your videos...the unmistakable sound of an aluminum net hitting the side of the boat. The outboards whining as they go by, the rods knocking around. It makes me feel like I am there. Thanks for the videos and for the complaining.
Almost like being there you just don’t have the wet seat of your pants to go along with the fishing 🎣. 😳
Have You ever thought about putting a Bimini top on Your boat??
I would use live shad, or shiners, or dead shiners
Use waffles for bait Dave! If you catch a blue cat on a waffle, is it a Blue Waffle?🤣
I enjoy all your fishing videos I like catching catfish too you a are the man Dave keep it up😊
Don’t be such a little Wawa
What rods are you using buddy
The trouble with using a bluegill for bait where I live, is that it is against the law to use a "game fish" for bait. A "game fish" is defined as any fish species in the state that has a creel limit. The creel limit for bluegill in my state is 50 per person, and this makes them a "game fish" that can't be used for bait.
Love your videos. Can you tell me what type of rod holder you have on the back of your boat
You’re awesome Dave. Great sense of humor. I love it.
If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll have what you e always had 😁
In the summer, my grandaddy took me bluegill fishing in a creek channel. They were 30' deep and the bluegills were huge. Go deep Dave.
Have you tried using bigger bluegill in the 7 to 9 inch range? Maybe the dinks will pass them up because it’ll just to big of a meal for them.
I dig those green rods !
Get a bimini top
White perch, live or cut has been working good on the pee dee river the last couple weeks
Hi Catfish Dave, I asked you about Mad Katz on the last video do you have any used or new rods and reels that you would like to sell? I know a few months back you had some rods for sale, did you sell them? Now I know that it was months back and it’s old news on those rods. I started hooking them in front of the dorsal fin instead of behind it and it at least seems to have helped with them getting ripped off the hook….
see you again Mr. Dave... you share a lot of knowledge about fishing, I really like it, thank you sir
Bimini top Dave!
I’d love to see you come fish Percy Priest
I fish the same waters. I havent caught a truly big bluegill since the 90's.
Hey dave, we've watched you for going on 3 years now i guess maybe more and enjoyed it. Hey CD! Great video! Please get some tshirts made that your subscribers can buy that have your catchphrase "DAG BLASTED"! on it?
Your exactly right on the blue gill. Go fish for them and then loose most of them. Either die or wiggle off the hook or something kills it. And last but not least you might actually catch a fish.

A loose, light, light colored hat with plenty of air ventilation holes and a large brim. Keeps you from over cooking in such heat.
Have you used chicken gizzard? If so what's a good mixture for it to soak in?
Hamburger, shrimp, hotdogs, bacon, cheese, corn ect😊😅😮😂 good fishing
Great video Dave, I don't see how you can stand it out there in the heat be careful don't overheat, thanks for sharing
Fried chicken?? My bucket list is missing an atlantic blue marlin off Montauk while eating cold fried chicken. Been on my list since 1968.😢
roger that ! cat fish Dave signing out.
Great fishing Dave!!!! I'm looking for a newer boat to set up for catfish and panfish. Really enjoying your videos! Happy fishing.

The most ill, pissed off fisherman I've ever seen...lighten up you're only fishing... it's supposed to be fun
If your going spend all the money & your time for those flatheads; why are tossing them back. Take em home and feed your neighbors or your cat??
It would be great if you could take a vacation to California come and do some fishing here we could show you the areas where the different fish are, if you want the fight of a lifetime I would suggest ocean fishing and either catching tuna or yellowtail they will kick your butt I once got embarrassed by a yellowtail there were seals around the boat trying to eat the fish brought in I hooked up a yellowtail that probably was only like 18 pounds I guess a seal was chasing him but I had my drag set pretty tight and it felt like I was hooked to a racing boat that was ripping out my line I was really surprised that the fish was only 18 pounds !
you alt to come back to savannah Tennessee next week dave,we are having the catfish capital..catfish tournament.
I got a question 🤔 Were you eating that salad 🥗 with that dip in your mouth too 😂 Shirley you didn't let a little Ft . Nasty water ruin your salad 🤢
So why not use Bluegill cut bait instead of live? Why would they hit dead skip jack and not dead Bluegill?
bluegill are so easy to catch lol, never really thought about using the bigger ones for bait, maybe ill try it next time i go fishing and see if i catch a monster cat with it
Take a hem from your underwear, cut maybe a 3 inch piece and sew ends together.will make you a cheap thumb guard
If hed go and set the hook and stop talking maybe he could catch a fish.... just guessing what fish it could be.
I'm sure you know but if you cut them bluegills tail fin off and the back bottom fin they won't be able to swim as fast away from what's trying to eat them. I found it to work really well.
Tbh..it looked like the hook got ripped out by bad timing..you're using str8 shank hooks too..
Best thing is you are not the final word.
You do fine catching, just don't think you are the final word.
I really like your videos a lot. I've heard you can jig large cut bait up and down, to attract more Flatheads...
You never did eat your Poppies chicken. Maybe you can kiss a blue catfish before you let him go.
Well dave. Just make that bluegill a 2piece. Love the show
Dave thanks for sharing your videos and keep them coming please.
Lol your like takeing a 6 year old fishing you complain about everything
Get you a blue and silver little cleo spoon at Walmart. Small size. Gold for cloudy days. Great bluegill lure
Hey Dave, a little piece of worm will catch a bluegill in 10 seconds
That's what I was thinking
Either way, this is a video, there was fish in the video, that makes it a fishing video...there, I finished it for you.
Do you have any videos of the catfish fishing in the Ohio river kicking back to me
Whining like a little spoiled kid ain't nothing suits him unless it is a big one and all the while catching good fish.....this fella don't know how good he has got it .......tickles me to listen to him
