Should buy kuih at out stalls and not at shopping centre. Omma should try kuih akok, kuih seri muka, putu bamboo, onde-onde, cendol etc. Homemade ones taste better.
Totally agree. I felt these were not the best types of kueh that represents Malaysia. Seri muka, angkoo, pulut panggang, tepung pelita, kuih lapis, kuih talam, bingka ubi, caikoi are the must-trys
I guess a lot of Malaysian kueh will have the same taste as Korean dessert because just like in korea most of our kuih are made with rice or glutinous rice same as in korea only the toppings or fillings are different it is so fascinating how different culture have the same food taste xD
at 3:39 the fact that you know “pandan” is shocking to me😂isn’t that word out of everyday words? especially foreigners 🤣your Malay improve a lot jade!❤️
@@privy8421 ohh don't mind me i'm just sharing a fun fact heheh i was meant to say that it's easy for them to know the word since they can associate it with a different meaning ^^
All these kuih are the regular one, I hope next time blimey can bring omma to bazaar ramadhan as they sell more classic kuih malaysia like lompat tikam, onde-onde, badak berendam and many more!
Your omma is so knowledge. She is really similar to my amma. So sweet. And dears, you guys should go further, and you may see more beautiful natural view. But it's okay. Try it next time deariez... Fighting...
I only went to Batu Caves twice as I recall..The 1st time I fake a headache & managed to save myself. The 2nd time I was not so lucky..I went all way up to stair no 44 (according to my late daughter).. Its ok because I been self diagnosed of having allergic reaction to exercise. 🤣🤣 I was in my early 50's on the 2nd attempt. Btw, i Chang & Jimmy also went to the same dessert shop to buy kueh.If u guys are still in Malaysia..I suggest to bring Jade Mum for durian treat. 😆😁
@@Blimeywow once you pluck them, you can smell the pandan ☺️ Malaysian loves pandan till they make pandan as a car perfume / room fragrance 😁 I’d love the original fragrance from the leaves itself than the packaging one 🥰

Juz to share some knowledge to everyone. Also a lot of this Baba Nyonya/ Malay desert has common ingredients of sugar, salt, coconut milk and certain types of flour depends on the kuih 1. Kuih Bakar -This one has alot of names, kuih bakar/kuih kemboja/kuih bombay/bakar kemboja - Has ingredients of eggs, wheat flour, pandan leaves juices and sesame seeds on top to gives a lil bit toasty flavor when baked -Another variation without eggs are called bingka pandan and another one with same shape but different ingredients and texture called bahulu kemboja 2. Curry Puff/ Karipap -Altho has curry in its name, it doesnt always has curry inside. Most common flavor is potato curry/ kari kentang but we usually call it karipap kentang and also sardine with lil bit spicy and sweet taste which usually called as karipap sardin. One of the most versatile pastry/desert to hav a lot of variation. -I never made one so im not really sure of the total ingredients -For some intricate detail consist of handmade twirl on top to prevent the curry puff from opening up during frying. Also fun to eat since it is much more crispy than a clipped curry puff 3. Kuih Kacang Merah -A first for me to see this one but if i were to make a guess, it might be made from rice flour 4. Puding Jagung/Kastard Jagung -Made from Custard flour, Corn kernel in a tin, Concentrated corn flavoring. One of the few types of kuih that doesnt need steaming or baking. Well, its a pudding afterall 5) Kuih Koci -This one is a lil bit unique. The white part is made from coconut milk with some salt , pandan leaves (cooked uncut for flavoring only) and some rice flour. The black part is made from mixture of glutinous rice flour and black glutinous rice flour and fillings with coconut shavings cooked with palm sugar. All are folded in with banana leaves which already prepared using what the Malays called sangai ( kinda like heat it up straight from the stove) 6. Kuih Kaswi - Made of Tapioca starch flour and palm sugar (most of brown Malay kuih has palm sugar hence the color. Not to be confuse when the Malays call upon its color as coklat like bingka ubi coklat. It doesn't mean it has chocolate in it but more onto its brownish color. Well brown in malay has two name, coklat and perang) -Usually a tad bit sweet and rolled on/ pour on top with slightly salted coconut shavings
Jade Mom is soooooo Cute!!!! HEHEHEHEHE.... Oh my goooshh!!!! I keep like smiling and laughing...especially the Jagung part!! SO BAD of jade..hahaha..!!

My favorite granny kueh is kueh ketayap. A green rolls with black sugar coconut shave in it. Uh .... When I eat it, Ill missed my belated grandmother. She taught my mother to do the kueh, and I asking my mother to do onece in a month. (And I remembered how to do it too!)
when you said "wuksusu" (corn in Korean), it sounds a bit like Chinese Malaysia said Corn in Chinese...... but of course Chinese in China or Taiwanese has different word to call corn......

there's actually pandan in korean but with different meaning. it means to judge, like "don't judge a book by its cover"
@@waegugin i see. But i think she was referring to the cake. The cake was made with a leaves called pandan😂

Also because Pandan is similar to Durian. It is a local word absorbed into English vocabulary, just like Nasi Lemak, Kimchi, Ramen, Dalgona, etc.
