Hello. Check to see if internet is working by telling user to go to some website like google. If still not working ask them if wifi is connected or if cable is connected and flashing in the back of the computer. If still not working, ask them to reset modem by disconnecting from power for 10sec and connect back. Other steps depends on the outcome of results from troubleshooting, but this is good starting point.

You would need to connect to that RDP machine as well. I use a remote tool DameWare to remotely see everything on their screen even if they are using RDP.
