@@larryshair Completely agree, Larry. Is there any way I could get you to listen to Castle/Arose by Eminem? It's two different songs off of the same album, meant to be listened to as a single piece of storytelling. Everything he says in the song is true, and basically it's about him overdosing on pain meds and almost dying. He talks to his daughters, as well as his friend Proof, or Doody, who passed away back in the early 2000s.
31, with no kids, but I feel the whole song. Just in reverse about my Mom. Wishing I could've spent more time with her when I had the chance. All the little things that she liked to do that I just "couldn't" make time for. The things that seem so dumb at the time, and being so ignorant to the thought that it wasn't about the activity you were doing, but the time spent doing it in each other's presence... Like he says at the end of the video, Don't waste it.
why do people feel like they have to explain smthng every time a man cries. idk just get used that it is totally okay and there is nothing unsusual about it
@Devon's biggest fan because for us, we learned that men are weak for crying. Its really hard to rewire our brain when we learned from a young age not to cry. I cry all the time, but its hard to let it out when you are told not to for so long.
@@middlifekrysis4750 its not about just not crying. It depends on where and what you are crying about. Personally I wouldnt cry on video because of a rap song and post it for everyone to see but thats just me I guess.
@MV740 thats because youve been taught that people will think youre weak if you do. Anything can tug on heart strings and force out a tear. But people dont like men who feel things.
He does that in that song, it's insane, I'm sure you know. First 2 verses are a scream, hilariously hyped.. The third flips the switch on the emotion so hard
Just for context, he wrote and recorded this at the height of his drug problems, so probably genuinely didn't think he was gonna be around for much longer. Very glad he managed to come out the other end!🙇🏽♂🐐✨🎯💯(And this song is truly a classic/masterpiece one of the best hooks Em has ever recorded and Em Is The Goat Of Hip Hop Forever! Em is second to none in Hip Hop when it comes to lyricism and storytelling Please React to Eminem "Mockingbird")
@@Milkers777 Going through changes is a masterpiece in my opinion as he tells his whole story of addiction to overdose and recovery and the personal stuff he was fighting especially with the death of Proof( Doody) and his marriage break up.
I've listened to this song hundreds of times in the early 2000s. It never hit me. Fast forward 20 years now I have a wife and 3 year old daughter. I'm sitting in a hotel room 3000 miles away making someone else dream a reality. I just can't believe how much this song hits me 20 years later.
Nothing wrong with working for someone else man! Your still working on your dream with your family but at least you have time to spend with them when you are home and your not always on the phone making deals and not really there for your family when you are home!! Dont get caught up in titles if your making enough money to raise your family
I feel you. I was working my ass off for my family especially for my daughter. What i didnt realize at that time, i was getting angrier day by day until that point where my daughter was just literally afraid and scared of me to come home. That turning point was about 6 years earlier. Since then i try to spend as much time with her, as i can. I loved this song back in the days when it was released but since i am also a father myself i see it from a different perspective.
Fun fact… Eminem ends his studio time at 5pm everyday regardless of where they are in recording to go home and spend time with family. This is something he has done for years now, especially since getting sober. He finds balance between work and the people he loves.
@@Gamer-zk3tz I think it was a rapper he made a song with that shared this, he came in to the studio late and Em was like we stay here till 5 or something If not mistaken it was a new feature but I can't remember who told it
Back when this released I was still a kid. But after listening to this again and being a father it hits different. As a Wildland Firefighter, I was pretty much never home and my daughter would do the same things to keep me from going. I was always focusing on putting food on the table. Last call I was on, had a tree fall on me and in the second I realized what was happening all the memories of her trying to keep me home flashed through my head and I regretted everything. I knew I was going to die, and I knew I wasn't going to be able to see her again. Pronounced dead on 11/22/20 at 0522 and I was gone for 6 minutes and 27 seconds. Don't know how but my heart started beating again. Woke up a little over 2 weeks later and have tried everything I can to be a good dad since. Life is short, and you can't take anything for granted because it can end in a second.
Thank you For sharing. I just Found My twin brother dead from overdosing on opiates and xanax. He was My best friend and a Brother. I'm so fuckin'lost now and don't Know what to doooooo!!
@@rollinstoned8447 man stay strong. Remember no one and nothing in life is permanent so the only thing you can do is accept it for what it is and move on. You never know, his soul would be happy seeing you happy in life. My prayers. RIP🕊️💐
It seems more and more common to call Eminem "overrated" or say "this person is much better than Eminem ever was". But i truly believe Eminem deserves every ounce of success he has gotten. No one does it like him.
Some people just like to hate on things because they are popular. Sure, there are many hidden gems in the art world, but sometimes something is popular just because it's good.
Is Eminem the greatest rapper of all time? Probably no but goddamn the hate he gets is soo not deserved. His current songs might not be as good as his older ones are but he doesn't deserve the hate
Eminem is such a profound lyricist. His emotional storytelling ability through a song shows just how much pain he had went through, and put his family through. A true legend. Much love to him.
I've been an Eminem fan since 2005 maybe, but I'm only now realizing how his clips were corny as hell lmao (the songs only get better on the other hand)
@@oogabalooga9039 I meant his old songs get better with the time. Of course his best work was made in the early 2000's, but Em still had some pretty good albums in the last few years like Kamikaze and Music to be Murdered By
Oh man, when you said that Eminem won't be here one day and this song will be played in his honor... it just broke my heart. Eminem feels immortal. It hadn't even hit me that he won't be here forever. He survived so much, so how can he ever die?
he actually wrote this song because he tought he wasnt gonna survive his drug addiction so its basically already played in his honor he just didnt left us
There was a time when I actually wouldn't have been surprised if he died any day but now that he's clean I think he'll be with us for another 30-40 years at least. Unless something crazy happens.
Nah, man. When he said it I had to pause the video and just think “Damn. This IS gonna be his tribute, isn’t it?”. Legacy, naturally, is gonna be one, but When I’m Gone is really the one.
Saved her. And adopted Kim’s twin sister’s niece he adopted. And his younger brother he adopted. And Kim’s daughter he adopted from another relationship she had while they were split. He’s far from an imperfect man. But he’s a great man.
He saved her, and she saved him. Em is many things, some not so great, but one of those things is a great father. And he's never been shy about admitting his kids are one of the biggest motivations for him to get clean, step up, and stay alive. He's said a huge motivator for making money was for Hailie's college fund, and he was able to be there at her college graduation (with a 3.9 GPA, by the way!). He recently walked Lainie down the aisle at her wedding, and will soon do the same for Hailie. His work and circumstances may have made him miss a lot of Hailie's life, but he survived and stuck it out to be here for the important moments. ...and now, I'm not crying, you're crying into my eyes >_>
This is one of the most perfect reactions to music. This is what a lot of artists wish to achieve when someone hears their music. Most want you to physically feel what their writing. Perfect.
Yes, a lot of rap is bout sharing their struggles and by doing so they are helping others that sit in a similar boat and can relate. I can recommend so many songs that fit in this category. Hopsin- "this house" and "alone with me" is amazing as well as NFs whole catalogue!!!!
RAP stands for Rhythm And Poetry. ... look for the lyricists, the storytellers, they’ll never disappoint- Em, Lupe, Nas, Kendrick, Royce, Cole, Hopsin, etc.
Em hits you in the SOUL. This song is incredible. I hadn’t heard this before, and I bawled right along with you. Damn! I think it hits hard because no matter what you do, you always wish you did more with your kids. Edit: Forgot to say thank you for your heartfelt, honest and raw reaction ❤️
This is why Eminem is the best lyricist of all time in my opinion. He can make you laugh, cry, or scare you. He knows how to paint a picture with his words. Btw you earned a new sub god bless.
I'm almost 40 I know my older hip-hop. I'm not saying anyone is as amazing lyricly to me because I respect way more than EM. Anyone who is a master at cadence and word play is what I love in rap it doesn't mean Em is the best but, he is the best to me in my opinion. Another thing is EM's influences come out in his raps so you still get the older influences that so many love he puts it good in his own lyrics about his list Reggie,JayZ ect. You get it.
Eminem is a storyteller...in many ways. His music reached new audiences and he opened up rap to them. People that had never listened to rap before ...started to discover other artists that would have otherwise been overlooked. He changed hip hop forever!
Dude, I came home today after a shitty night and RUclips just recommended your video to me. I watched it until the end and honestly I cried with you. I already knew this song, so I knew it was a heavily emotional song, but seeing you letting your emotions flow and just went along with it made me feel so good, I literally cried because I empathized with you. Even if you happen to not see this comment, I wanted to say thanks a lot for this video! You got yourself a subscribe from me!
I agree. It's good knowing someone who doesn't listen to Eminem still feels the emotional pull of his songs. I grew up with one parent which is why I felt a lot of his lyrics resonated with me but it is clear the lyrics and the way the song is put together can affect anyone.
Eminem has opened himself up at times like no one else, I think. Amazing vulnerability and honesty. Facing his conflicts, his ambivalence, his failings. His work moves me.
Rest in peace to your son. ❤️🩹 may you feel his warmth in the sunshine, see his smile in the moonlight, and hear his laughter in the sound of the breezes through tree branches.
This is the change Eminem made to hip hop. He was willing to dump his heart out in a way that no other artist would. He could hit you with the hard stuff or he could rip your heart out by just being honest and letting you in to his own struggles.
yes very true words i think as he was a white guy he felt he didn't always have to play the macho rapper role and his huge wide fan base allowed him to cater for them with diff styles of songs ...pure Genius imho
Yep. He's like, "I get it, you want fun, so here's Shady. Oh, now you need me to prove myself? I'll let Em do that. But I'm a person and I've got real shit to say, so here's me, Marshall, writing this one for you." That's the genius of having the three perspectives split into three alter egos: he gets to write from every facet of himself without losing an audience. There's always a song for someone, no matter what they want out of a rapper or singer.
When this song came out, it was speculated that he was retiring because his daughter wasn’t happy about her dad making music as it caused him to be away from home and didn’t give him any time to spend with her and her mum. The video depicted that, hence the complication greatest hits album title Curtain Call The Hits.
yup. this is my 10,000th time hearing this and the first time was when i was in 5th grade and im 21 now ... and i was literally tearing up even more than him ...
This reminds me that several years ago when his daughter graduated from high school he had to watch from inside a building so that his presence didn't overshadow her moment. How heartbreaking that he's had to let his kids grow up away from him so that they could have as normal a life as possible. That in and of itself, makes this hit even harder. He sacrificed being a bigger part of their lives because he didn't want his fame to ruin their chances for a little normalcy. He's always had such a deep sense of duty and love for them because his own father abandoned him and he didn't want to be like that. He and Kim had such a volatile relationship but they put that behind them so they could coparent and do the right thing, to the best of their abilities for the sake of their kids. I've got so much respect for how hard both of them have worked on themselves (both had substance abuse issues) and their relationship with each other.
Being one of those "busy dads" of a 5-year-old, this one had me crying like a little baby. Thanks for the vid, mate. One love from Germany. Keep on doing what you're doing.
So, I just found you... And you melted my heart! I cried right along with you, even though I've heard it before and loved it... It was like hearing it for the first time again, with you!
The thing with Eminem's music is just how polarizing it really, really is. There's a generation who can't STAND his music because of his early days, from his diss tracks to his mom, drug use, etc. But as time went on, he slowly matured. As a father of 2, it's sooo hard for me to listen to this all the way through now. This song makes me feel like I'm just hoping I'm doing enough for my two girls.
Tbh most of Eminems fans liked him better when he was younger a lot of people don't think he's that great now a days I don't agree with them bit he had more fans when he was younger for sure
Eminem is a lyrical genius, think we all can agree on this. Also, there's no shame in having emotions. Emotion makes you human; let them show, embrace them even.
@@chasethechosenone8478 What does that mean? Are men supposed to supress their emotions "because it's girly to show emotion"? What kind of a backwards and fucked up sentiment is this?
"You know this is gonna be his tribute when he's gone someday" I've heard this song too many times i can count, and now when i heard that it hit me. Damn. It's gonna be a bad day.
I am not a father, but this song can bring the biggest of badasses to tears. Everyone has a side of themselves that proves they are real too. Also, real men cry!! Be it your life, a fake life, wondering your future, or just being ones self. You make life! Life doesn't make you!
I enjoyed this as a young man but now as a father, who battles depression and substance abuse, it hits hard. Do not feel ashamed or a need to apologize. Never seen you before but I subscribed. Takes courage friend. Have a blessed day.
ADHD a lot of the time can manifest in the ways you describe. An ADHD screener from your doctor can't hurt ❤️ I lived my life thinking it was a made up excuse for hyper boys. Oh boy was I so damn wrong. I didn't get my dx until 32 and I won't ever stop promoting awareness. Going uninformed and undiagnosed almost destroyed my entire life.
“Don’t let your prejudices get in the way of something special that can come your way” valuable life lesson for everybody there. Thank you for your reaction and your time. Loved this video!
He can hit you right in the feels. My first wife and I used to fight all the time. My oldest daughters name is Hailey. I used to work out of town. This song used to hit me hard.
The fact that you get music enough to have chills immediately makes you my friend and brings you into my top 10 favorite people. Thank you for going outside of your comfort box.
“Headlights”, “Going through changes” and “Best Friend” by yellow wolf featuring Eminem are another pair of great Em songs that hit hard. He is an amazing lyricist. Even his crazy out of mind stuff carries triple and double meaning, with multi level internal and external rhyming schemes. The way he can bend words, his cadence. So many things. Pretty amazing.
All great songs that make great reactions for the reasons you say. I wonder if he needs a bit more context into why they were written and the overall Eminem journey before jumping into those ones though. It's tricky because up to and including Recovery*, it's all one long life story in a way. *(MMLP2 as well, but I feel he begins to repeat himself a little from then on, and switches focus more onto being an incredible wordsmith).
I'm 68 & a OG of this man. I've been one since he 1st started & he's my boy!! Have you watched 8 mile? If not you should, it's his life & extremely raw. And by the way I'm a woman. Jethro Tull was/is still the bomb. Thanks for his shoutout. Akita, 🇺🇸 lady
Darkness by Eminem. It's perfect reaction fodder, and you'll get a look at (nearly) current year Eminem. Some fans feel differently, but I know a lot of us agree that he's only ever gotten better with age, and he shows no signs of stopping. The dude is a virtuoso. It's just inhuman what he's able to do with his pen. He's like Brahms, channeling a higher power to create something profound. If i could oversell Em any more, I would try haha
Yeah he has 100% gotten better a lot of what he says goes over people’s heads these days. People are so used to dumbed down lyrics they just don’t get it
This hits deep every time I hear it. I've worked overseas for 4 years without my wife and daughter with me. I missed my daughters 2nd through 5th birthdays because I couldn't get time off work. Decided to quit, pack my bags and be with my girls. The best decision I've ever made. For the past 2 years I've enjoyed every moment with them. Much respect brother, I my self as others that work on the road 100% of the time sacrifice everything to support the people we love. It’s not an easy path in life obviously, but definitely helps to treasure the people waiting for you back home.

If you liked this I think you would like his song Beautiful, Legacy, Guts over Fear and many more. His catalogue is vast and covers many different facets of life. I think you’ll enjoy the journey. Hope to see more. Great reaction
Wow, comparing it to "Cats in the Cradle" gave me chills. My dad listened to that song when I was growing up and he'd always get teary-eyed and quiet. He died of cancer when I was 10, and all these years later I still can't even hear that song without crying. I've been a big Eminem fan for 20yrs, and one of my favorite things about him as an artist is how honest and introspective he is with many of his songs, this being one of the most powerful examples. It was relatable to me as a kid, and now as a father it means even more. Fantastic reaction, thank you for sharing your experience with us. You've earned a new subscriber here for sure, keep up the great work!
Same, but my dad didn’t die. He left when I was 4 years old. It was weird when I would get to visit him he would often be listening to Cats in the Cradle and I always felt the meaning was lost on him. Similarly, Someday Never Comes by CCR always gets me.
I'm 30 now, but I grew up with parents that didn't understand Eminem whatsoever... They probably still don't. Thank you for being open enough to actually listen.
Eminem can take your earth and beat him to death with words at every age if you just lisen the lyrics correctly... I'm 18 now and i don't have baby's or drugs problems or family problems but he's like that... Eminem is one of the rarest person Who can make me cry against my will... We all understand him even we don't experienced the same things... This is why em is the greatest rapper of his generation. Everyone say it...😎🤌🗿
Key to listening to Eminem is to not just hear a song but to really listen to the detail, lyrical flow back and forth it’s so intelligent how it’s written and delivered
@@travisk6221 none of those rappers you just named made it bigger than him in the rap game lmao he has outsold every rapper by many many multi millions
I made a big mistake watching your video today. Your sincere reaction combined with the fact that it will be father's day in two days and my dad (who was gone a lot for his job) passed away seven years ago... god... bawling my eyes out. I knew this song, and it hits me every time, but today it kicked my legs out from underneath me. Thanks for being so upright and honest in your reaction and never, ever apologise for crying. I'm a 38 year old guy and I had to learn the hard way that those tears can only do good...
I came across this video randomly. It turned into the best reaction video of my favorite artist I’ve ever seen. I’ve heard this song 1000 times. But this song like so many others, I’ve listened to but never let it in. Watching you let this song in made me let the song in. Now having a four year old daughter, it is though I heard and felt this song for the first time. I give you so much respect for admitting you Had hip pegged all wrong, and that this song single-handedly changed your mind about the music. You won’t find that in any other reaction video anywhere else. Much love.
Wow, thanks Dave. Nothing like becoming a father for something like this to re-define your whole perspective on these things. Thank you so very much for your kind words. Hug those little munchkins for me! Blessings my friend.
This is THE BEST reaction to this song that I e ever seen. So genuine and really feels so good to just watch the video. This is lyrically and emotionally the best song I love of Eminem!
First time I’ve heard one of his songs. Holy crap (in a wow I CAN understand the words in a rap song at 64)!!! I am full on admitting to my being closed off to even giving it a shot:( Don’t waste it (said someone wise)!
Thats the thing about eminem he got so much bad press when he first came out because of his "bad" words. I mean they literally protested his concerts, tried to ban him everywhere and blamed him for things people were doing because of his song content. But the guys slim shady persona was just that a persona, something to get him noticed and to express thoughts that polite society would not normally allow. The guy however is a genius, very good at what he does and has tons of songs people can relate to. Its modern poetry and should be cherished for the art form it is.
As a hardcore Eminem fan, here are some suggestions (definitely missed some, might edit it later): Castle + Arose (both of them together, in this order) - for if you want to get emotional Mockingbird - another amazing one directed at his daughter Best Friend (Yelawolf feat. Eminem) - one of Em's best verses ever, with a dose of emotion Darkness (a bit heavy) - amazing storytelling with a twist Bad Guy - if you enjoyed Stan Leaving Heaven - Talks about his (horrible) relationships with his father Not Afraid - great message of recovery marking his sober period Cleaning Out My Closet Headlights (Tells about his image/relationship with his mom in two very different moments of his life and states of mind) Lose Yourself - probably his most famous one, relates to his semi-biographical movie Never Love Again - (spoiler try to find the double entendre throughout the song) Godzilla Rap God (Some of his most famous recent works, really shows off his skills) Caterpillar Fast Lane I Will Homicide (Eminem and his friends can rap) Stay Wide Awake Kim 97 Bonnie and Clyde My Darling Careful What You Wish For (Psychotic - but amazing - storytelling (he gets really graphical/violent on some of these)) Some (really) honorable mentions: Beautiful Like Toy Soldiers Sing for the Moment Tone Deaf Gnat Soldier Marsh The Ringer Not Alike + Killshot (diss at Machine Gun Kelly, with a response in between called Rap Devil) Those Kinda Nights River Venom Fall White America No Love
Eminem’s music basically got me through my childhood. Now I’m 26 with three babies and his words hit so much harder than they used to. I looked up to Em as a big brother figure when I was young because my home life was abusive. It felt like his words untangled my feelings and helped me understand how I felt. Loved the reaction ❤️
''I'm humbled and corrected'' Shady did that to a lot of people during his reign and not many got close to his ungodly level. He is a master of his craft and one of his kind. Your reaction is perfectly normal. Just embrace it 👊
This really hits home. I've been a truck driver since 21 and I had my daughter @ 19, so in order to provide for my family I decided I would live my life on the highways. My daughter at age 6 literally piled boxes in front of the door of our apartment and stood in front of them trying to keep me from leaving. I kept telling her that it was the last time I would leave and that I would be back in a few days. Nothing breaks your heart like having to hear your kid cry behind the door you just closed. One of those days I didn't make it home. I have had 3 more kids and they have all done the same when I leave. Now my daughter is 18 and in college. How I wish I could turn back time cause of the 18yrs we had her I feel like I only spent 5-8yrs with her. No shame for shedding a tear. Great reaction! 👍
I remember Eminem talking about watching hailie get crowned homecoming queen from the school cafeteria because he didnt want to take the spotlight off her he always made it to everything she did he is such an amazing dad she is very successful herself today and they still have a strong bond please listen to hailie's song its an emotional song too
Wow. That’s one hell of a reaction video. I love this song, I get a lump in my throat every time and I loved watching your reaction. That’s a powerful one. Thanks for sharing it
As a father myself. This song helps one reflect on their own actions. I've caught myself doing this to my daughter unintentionally. She is the world me.
Eminem knows how to evoke emotion in his art. Whether tugging at the heart strings or getting the blood pumping, hes been my go to artist for the majority of my life. Cheers
I am listening to this song since I am a teenager, being French I obviously did not understand any of it for many years. Now turning 36 this year, my son turning 2 soon, and married to my lovely English speaker wife I am finally getting all of what this song means. I am trying to remember myself of that meaning every couple of weeks by listening to it and watching your reaction to it, in my opinion the best and most genuine reaction to this song on RUclips. My wife was just a couple of months pregnant when you released this video and I absolutely loved it, I watched it probably 100 times since. Thank you.
It's nice to listen to this song and know that Em's daughter is a beautiful woman and she's her dad's biggest fan. She shared her Spotify hindsight for 2021 and it shows that she listen to her dad's music a whole lot lol.
Don’t be sorry about being so emotional. I had full body chills and watery eyes watching and listening. My new favorite song too by a rapper. So powerful!! Thanks Larry, for sharing.
As an addict, this song speaks to me in ways it didn't before I started attending an addiction recovery group. It's a tough listen, but it just speaks to the soul in ways that other songs don't. It's just... wow.
I'm currently on Methadone Maintanance. Life was stable For last years but I just Found My twin brother dead from overdosing on opiates and xanax. I'm so fuckin'lost now and don't Know what to doooooo!!!!! He was My best friend and a Brother!!!!!😭😭
Rap is lyricism/poetry.. Eminem, Nas, Rakim, Tupac, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, Biggie Smalls... That's real "rap" Lil pump, Migos, Lil Xan, 6ix9ine.. are the "artists" you can't put into the rap category
If you're a hard working father and you love your kids there's no way this song doesn't hit you deep and force you to hold in the tears. The hard balance between being there for your children and having to be gone to provide at the same time isn't easy. And society is constantly trying to pull our kids away from us.
Mate to watch someone be so open to this music is so nice to see, Eminem has a special place in my heart and will forever, it was through my best friends brother passing who idolised Eminem that me and all my friends now get together and we listen to these songs and shed a tear and have a hug and we feel better and closer to him and each other, I’m writing this now with a tear in my eye but also a smile on my face because his music touches you no matter who you are and for different reasons. I hope whoever reads this is well and happy. 💯 this is just something I wanted to share. A personal favourite of mine is “beautiful” by Eminem it makes me think of my best bros brother every time 🕊 fly high Thankyou
I was 14 the first time I heard Eminem, I’m 37 years old now, my life has been immensely affected by his music. The guy is literally genius and one of the greatest artists to ever live. I love this reaction video it was very genuine and I was in tears the entire time. When I’m gone is still to this day one of his most authentic and moving songs, it’s a masterpiece
As, a teenage daughter that has had her dad in and out of her life since she was young, this song hits hard. My dad has always played Eminem growing up, especially in the car and everytime he would say this song reminds him of me. Since me and my dad do have a complicated relationship, I relate to the fact in the lyrics that Eminem's daughter, Hallie, didn't want him to go. I've felt that way many times not wanting my father to go, and be out of my life. And some of the time it can be hard without my father but I still listen to this song whenever I miss him or want him to be around. I'm sure many girls or women in their life feel that same way too.
This song hits close to home with me I have to fight holding the tears back every time. Lost my father when I was 9 to a morphine overdose, he wasn’t around much due to his addiction and my mother and fathers abusive relationship. Never got the chance to know him on a personal level. It almost feels like he’s speaking to me through this, without a doubt my favorite Eminem song.
Thank you. For many reasons. I love seeing someone discovering em. This is why we love him. Not just because hes the goat...but because he doesnt have any skeletons. He bares it all for all of us.
I'm a step-dad to a 3 year old girl recently, and about to have our second....this song and em's mockingbird are the songs that motivates me to try and be the best father my kids can have... Love your genuine reaction btw and it just shows that your a caring and loving father..❤️❤️
Welcome, to the world of being a fan of the greatest Hip Hop lyricist in history. Our hearts laugh and cry frequently and intensely (especially since there will likely never be anyone coming close Eminem‘s genius). We meet on wednesday‘s for coffee. And congratulations to you man for being so open minded to listen to this masterpiece. As someone who grew up with his songs, it‘s an honor to see how deeply it touched you.
I'm an older guy too. But i have been an Eminem fan for a while now; grew up to hip hop. There are only a few artists that can envoke and provoke such strong emotions. Your reaction brought me to tears. Appreciate you and your channel so much! Thank you
Its so cool to hear someone whos a bit older talk about the rap genre, and actually give it a chance. Its just like any other genre, but so many people tend to only see the vulgar things. There is so much emotion packed into so many of these songs, you just need to know where to look. NF has a lot of good ones, Em, even logic has some good ones, joyner lucas has some as well. Its crazy to start finding these and being so impacted by the lyrics, its happened to me so many times and its awesome
Oh boy… I’m a 46 year old landscaper. Come back to this reaction today. You got me crying again with you pal. You need to do more Eminem please. The man is a genius at this! Great reaction. Thank you
I love how real and emotional all your reactions are. So many people are scared to show emotion. Especially men. Eminem was the music that got me through my angry teen years.
So glad you had someone like Em to relate to. It's something, that as you age and get wiser, you will be able to relate to your kids or others that had your same struggles. It's why I think God allows us to go through the pit... to be able to pull up the others that come behind us. Blessings my friend.
This was my 13 year old son's favorite song, we played it at his funeral. This song rips my heart out every time I hear it.
I can't possibly imagine... I'm so incredibly sorry.
😭😭😭😭
much love and energy to you and thanks for sharing this personal information with us
my brain: dont cry dont cry
I lost a friend of mine when we were 14 he passed in middle school, I’m so sorry for your loss
I'm 21 with no kids and I feel this song. Thats what eminem does. Crazy
It's such a profound, poignant, massively relatable song. Respect to Em.
He talks to his daughters, as well as his friend Proof, or Doody, who passed away back in the early 2000s.
same here 29 with no kids but em songs talking about his kids esp hailie hits the soul, yet alot of ignorant people say em is not relateable
Whenever you have kids this song hits even harder I’m telling you.
No need to be strong. Feel it brother. No shame. Be real. It's needed
why do people feel like they have to explain smthng every time a man cries. idk just get used that it is totally okay and there is nothing unsusual about it
@Devon's biggest fan because for us, we learned that men are weak for crying. Its really hard to rewire our brain when we learned from a young age not to cry. I cry all the time, but its hard to let it out when you are told not to for so long.
@@middlifekrysis4750 This. This right here
@@middlifekrysis4750 its not about just not crying.
Em once said " My songs can make you cry, take you by surprise, at the same time, Can make you dry your eyes with the same rhyme"
Profound!
My dads gone crazy!!!
And those words are so true honestly. You don't have to live this life to feel what he is saying ya know
Eminem one of the greatest artists ever whose lyrics can make you laugh, cry, dance, vibe, shout, smile, think and fly
@@Milkers777 Going through changes is a masterpiece in my opinion as he tells his whole story of addiction to overdose and recovery and the personal stuff he was fighting especially with the death of Proof( Doody) and his marriage break up.
Em came out and said that this song was like a suicide letter to his daughters
I've listened to this song hundreds of times in the early 2000s. It never hit me. Fast forward 20 years now I have a wife and 3 year old daughter. I'm sitting in a hotel room 3000 miles away making someone else dream a reality. I just can't believe how much this song hits me 20 years later.
Nothing like parenthood to bring profound meaning to a song like this.
Same.... this is this man's first reaction video I've watched.. and it broke me down almost immediately.
@@marzipanarsch9555 nothing like becoming a father that brings new perspective to things like this. So glad it turn to a better ending.
Fun fact… Eminem ends his studio time at 5pm everyday regardless of where they are in recording to go home and spend time with family. This is something he has done for years now, especially since getting sober. He finds balance between work and the people he loves.
Wow that’s so sweet lol
proof of fun fact?
@@Gamer-zk3tz I think it was a rapper he made a song with that shared this, he came in to the studio late and Em was like we stay here till 5 or something
If not mistaken it was a new feature but I can't remember who told it
It was akon that said that
And if I'm not mistaken that same rapper said when he called Eminem about being there he even said he will be back at 9am. And does that everyday, 9-5

It seems more and more common to call Eminem "overrated" or say "this person is much better than Eminem ever was".
But i truly believe Eminem deserves every ounce of success he has gotten. No one does it like him.
Eminem truly has much more meaningful lyrics than any other rapper
Some people just like to hate on things because they are popular. Sure, there are many hidden gems in the art world, but sometimes something is popular just because it's good.
Is Eminem the greatest rapper of all time? Probably no but goddamn the hate he gets is soo not deserved. His current songs might not be as good as his older ones are but he doesn't deserve the hate
He makes music not that shit that rapper's do today
@@matthewa2095 out of curiosity, who’s better? Nas is close, for me nobody else is near.

Oh man, when you said that Eminem won't be here one day and this song will be played in his honor... it just broke my heart. Eminem feels immortal. It hadn't even hit me that he won't be here forever. He survived so much, so how can he ever die?
He won’t ever die his Legacy is forever and plus he can live forever they have the technology🐐✨
he actually wrote this song because he tought he wasnt gonna survive his drug addiction so its basically already played in his honor he just didnt left us
There was a time when I actually wouldn't have been surprised if he died any day but now that he's clean I think he'll be with us for another 30-40 years at least. Unless something crazy happens.
Thought about this before, cried for all off y’all🙄🥺❤️
It was his retirement song in 2005 and he nearly died a couple years later, so it nearly happened already
"This is going to be his tribute." There are so many song like that he's made. It unbelievable.
Nah, man. When he said it I had to pause the video and just think “Damn. This IS gonna be his tribute, isn’t it?”. Legacy, naturally, is gonna be one, but When I’m Gone is really the one.
Hayley is alive and thriving, as is Em. Makes it much less sad to me personally because he really did save her from all that
He just walked her down the isle ❤
No-one tells a story like Em. He can be goofy and silly at times but when he wants to be serious or send a message he can leave you speechless.
This is one of the most perfect reactions to music. This is what a lot of artists wish to achieve when someone hears their music. Most want you to physically feel what their writing.
Perfect.
Thanks so very much for your kind words!
I am generally not a fan of rap, but let's remember, it's spoken poetry and if done honestly, it's very poignant and moving.
Yes, a lot of rap is bout sharing their struggles and by doing so they are helping others that sit in a similar boat and can relate. I can recommend so many songs that fit in this category. Hopsin- "this house" and "alone with me" is amazing as well as NFs whole catalogue!!!!
Agree BUT it is not just spoken poetry/spoken word, the thing that makes it rap is you gotta RHYME, if the rhyme is not there, it is spoken word
no i think eminem is something else
When someone like you says it’s great not a fan of rap then it’s great.
RAP stands for Rhythm And Poetry. ... look for the lyricists, the storytellers, they’ll never disappoint- Em, Lupe, Nas, Kendrick, Royce, Cole, Hopsin, etc.

Anyone who is a master at cadence and word play is what I love in rap it doesn't mean Em is the best but, he is the best to me in my opinion. I agree. It's good knowing someone who doesn't listen to Eminem still feels the emotional pull of his songs. I grew up with one parent which is why I felt a lot of his lyrics resonated with me but it is clear the lyrics and the way the song is put together can affect anyone.

Eminem will never stop giving me chills no matter how many times I hear his songs
Truth.

The thing with Eminem's music is just how polarizing it really, really is. I've been a big Eminem fan for 20yrs, and one of my favorite things about him as an artist is how honest and introspective he is with many of his songs, this being one of the most powerful examples. It was relatable to me as a kid, and now as a father it means even more.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. My dad passed 3 years ago. You won't be alone my friend. Hang in there.
@@larryshair I will and no thank you.
Seriously big facts. Said it perfectly
It’s Eminem. He is the greatest lyricist in rap. He tells stories. That’s why he is so good.
other rappers rap about how amazing they are and there cars and women and shit and there singing/lyrics suck ass not eminem
@@burleighrowe7897 woah now, there’s old school rappers who where the greatest lyricist and better than Eminem

This is THE BEST reaction to this song that I e ever seen. So genuine and really feels so good to just watch the video. This is lyrically and emotionally the best song I love of Eminem!
Thanks so much Sunil! This was definitely a rough one...
First time I’ve heard one of his songs. Holy crap (in a wow I CAN understand the words in a rap song at 64)!!!
I am full on admitting to my being closed off to even giving it a shot:(
Don’t waste it (said someone wise)!
Eminem is one of the most poignant and direct rappers ever. Even in his faster songs you can understand EVERY word.
So glad you enjoyed this one with me, Linda. Such a great message.
As a hardcore Eminem fan, here are some suggestions (definitely missed some, might edit it later):
Castle + Arose (both of them together, in this order) - for if you want to get emotional
Mockingbird - another amazing one directed at his daughter
Best Friend (Yelawolf feat. Eminem) - one of Em's best verses ever, with a dose of emotion
Darkness (a bit heavy) - amazing storytelling with a twist
Bad Guy - if you enjoyed Stan
Leaving Heaven - Talks about his (horrible) relationships with his father
Not Afraid - great message of recovery marking his sober period
Cleaning Out My Closet
Headlights
(Tells about his image/relationship with his mom in two very different moments of his life and states of mind)
Lose Yourself - probably his most famous one, relates to his semi-biographical movie
Never Love Again - (spoiler try to find the double entendre throughout the song)
Godzilla
Rap God
(Some of his most famous recent works, really shows off his skills)
Caterpillar
Fast Lane
I Will
Homicide
(Eminem and his friends can rap)
Stay Wide Awake
Kim
97 Bonnie and Clyde
My Darling
Careful What You Wish For
(Psychotic - but amazing - storytelling (he gets really graphical/violent on some of these))
Some (really) honorable mentions:
Beautiful
Like Toy Soldiers
Sing for the Moment
Tone Deaf
Gnat
Soldier
Marsh
The Ringer
Not Alike + Killshot (diss at Machine Gun Kelly, with a response in between called Rap Devil)
Those Kinda Nights
River
Venom
Fall
White America
No Love
Hailie's song is the main one I would add to this list.
@@Gumnut08 and Like toy soldiers and cleanin out my closet I feel like are top top essentials no matter what
Wow, thanks for the list! I have a few of these already in the can and will be released soon. I'll keep this list handy. Thanks again!
Venom is truly the greatest song ever made
We can not forget t'ill I collapse song
Wonderful reaction
Thank you sir!!!
Thanks so much!
❤
''I'm humbled and corrected'' Shady did that to a lot of people during his reign and not many got close to his ungodly level. He is a master of his craft and one of his kind. Your reaction is perfectly normal. Just embrace it 👊
"I'm an old guy" so is eminem lol, that's why older folks relate to him more. Always will be the goat for me tho 💯🖤
Eminem is a poetic genius. His music has pulled me through some extremely dark times
You are a hero sir.
You are one hell of a man for taking responsibility at such a young age. Your daughter will now understand why you had to leave.
Thanks for sharing it
Thanks Adam. This was a rough one, for sure!
As a father myself. This song helps one reflect on their own actions. I've caught myself doing this to my daughter unintentionally. She is the world me.
Seeing someone that resembles my dad literally cry to this video made me tear up. Thanks to that. Its rare. Love your reactions I"ve seen so far
Thanks Jonas
Eminem knows how to evoke emotion in his art. Whether tugging at the heart strings or getting the blood pumping, hes been my go to artist for the majority of my life. Cheers
This is a prime example of why those of us who grew up with Em respect him and love him so much. He was so good at expressing our feelings.
Hands down one of the most emotionally charged songs in existence. This is why he's so renowned.

This hits SO much harder, now I'm a parent. I felt it before, sure, but now it's killing me. 🙋🏼♀️😭
As an addict, this song speaks to me in ways it didn't before I started attending an addiction recovery group. It's a tough listen, but it just speaks to the soul in ways that other songs don't. It's just... wow.
Intense song for sure!
I'm currently on Methadone Maintanance. Life was stable For last years but I just Found My twin brother dead from overdosing on opiates and xanax. I'm so fuckin'lost now and don't Know what to doooooo!!!!! He was My best friend and a Brother!!!!!😭😭
man i wish i could go back and listen to this song for the first time again. i still get chills every time i listen to it.
EmInem is a true artist that you can't put into the "rap" category. He's a Lyricist that's extremely deep with all his work. A true master of words
agreed same for so many others, kendrick, jcole they are true artist
Que FACK
Rap is lyricism/poetry.. Eminem, Nas, Rakim, Tupac, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, Biggie Smalls... That's real "rap"
Lil pump, Migos, Lil Xan, 6ix9ine.. are the "artists" you can't put into the rap category
@@athulchandran2737 thank you
You definitely gotta do more Eminem, he's the best-selling rapper for a reason
A personal favourite of mine is “beautiful” by Eminem it makes me think of my best bros brother every time 🕊 fly high
Thankyou
I was 14 the first time I heard Eminem, I’m 37 years old now, my life has been immensely affected by his music. The guy is literally genius and one of the greatest artists to ever live. I love this reaction video it was very genuine and I was in tears the entire time. When I’m gone is still to this day one of his most authentic and moving songs, it’s a masterpiece
I was a sing father of a daughter until she was 7 years old. And growing up with Em’s music, this song makes me cry every single time. 😬
Got me chills reading this. Hope you'll be happy in that situation
Thanks so much! This is a masterpiece.
Hes the GOAT for a reason, the love he has for his daughter is amazing.

Thanks for this, Brayden!
Cathartic reaction....genuinely loved it. Eminem is the greatest.
Oh boy… I’m a 46 year old landscaper. Come back to this reaction today. You got me crying again with you pal. You need to do more Eminem please. The man is a genius at this! Great reaction. Thank you
Thank you Mad! No way I could make it through without the tears. Wrecked me.
