I believe this recording is from the 1997 National Championships. Amazing to think this is a live recording!
That melody in the solo cornet, which returns on euph , rep and then full band, must be one of the most sublime tunes ever written
I remember this performance well. This was the first time I saw my dad win the 'Nationals'. A very proud and emotional day! Was lucky enough to see him win again the following year with 'Between The Moon and Mexico' too. Fantastic performance, thank you for posting.

David King is definitely the best conductor ever, and he proved it this year with Gallery of Howard Snell
That's a strong statement, not sure you can judge across different eras to be honest. David King is certainly my favourite conductor, he seems to be able to pull the last piece of musical emotion out of any piece.
