Hey, thank you for making this. Ever since I heard John discuss Auld Lang Syne at the end of 2020, it stuck with me. I've been following Vlogbrothers for years, but his words about proclaiming *that* we are here stuck with me more than usual. They inspired me to write a short story for my husband, and I repeat them when my mental illness threatens to beat me. I repeated them today. Having a piece of music I can put on repeat while I go about my day, filled with the same bittersweet beauty as John's words, is just wonderful. This video is what I imagine would happen if someone were to convert the signals in my brain into sound. This is an absolute joy to hear, and it has elevated my day, and it has been the rope from which I have pulled myself out of a depressive spiral. So, thank you. You, and all of Nerdfighteria, are wonderful.
You put into words exactly what the Auld Lang Syne piece & this music mean to me as well (they also inspired me to write, too). Thank you for this comment -- I feel so similarly. The music is an absolute joy, indeed.
“This video is what I imagine would happen if someone were to convert the signals in my brain into sound.” What a beautiful sentence, and one that reflects my experience so absolutely as well.
Thank you for all the support and positivity on this video, it is overwhelming and I don't know how to express my gratitude. I'm happy to say that I WILL be making a longer version, but I would love for you to participate! I'm hoping to make a big choir of people singing "we're here because we're here" together to drift in and out of the background. um oh my GOODNESS thank you for MAKING THIS. my partner introduced me to lofi and now there's a specifically NERFIGHTERIA lo-fi and i'm so EXCITED i've resorted to mostly-lowercase-with-emphasized-CAPS. thank you, thank you!
This is AMAZING. I had a really shitty New Years Eve, and listened to John's video, crying, across the threshold of midnight, and his essay made me feel less horrible. And this riff on it is just ... like... I have no words. The best parts of the internet and the community all wrapped up into a perfect little video that 100% needs to be an hour loop. Thank you so much for making this.
Thanks to Mathew Thompson in the comments teaching me how to loop a youtube video, I have been listening to this song for 4 hours and I regret nothing.
This makes me ridiculously joyful!! Thank you!! I was in that stream, and with how everyone was saying that John's soothing signing rhythm would make a great lo-fi beats or ASMR, I thought "There's a talented Nerdfighter who's gonna make one". But you went way beyond my/our wildest dreams on this. This is beautiful. Thank you for decreasing world suck.
auld lang syne has long been one of my favourite songs. it's always held emotional resonance for me. john's essay about it, and seeing the "we're here because we're here because" comments in the signing livestreams, has deepened that. I love this. thank you for this ❤️

Omg I'm in love with this. If you ever want to make a longer version, I too would have it on a loop. I'm making* a video on my journey to find joy that prominently features the version of this episode that John posted on vlogbrothers. I think I might go finish and upload that today because of this. Thank you, for being here and making great art because you're here because you're here
Oh my God this is the coolest thing I have ever seen. The execution on every level is just ... perfect. Thank you. -John

Okay *sometimes* I love the internet. I'm going to need this on at least an hour long loop.
This video made me figure out how to loop a RUclips video.
Could I have a hand with that? :D

This is so cute! All it needs is that pseudo drum beat john does while signing. The _swishawish thump pop_ .
Thank you for the idea! I added it to the hour-long version in some sections :)
