Loved everything about your discussion! I would say I disagree on your thoughts that maybe Louis doesn’t really love Lestat because I think the crux of their issues here is that they DO love each other. Lestat loves Louis so much he’s obsessive and possessive and abusively tries to control him that way. Louis loves Lestat so much that he can’t leave him even when he had the chance. It’s fucked up and not right and in the real world we wouldn’t call that love, but in this story, I truly do think it’s love for them. Can’t wait for you to get to Season2! It’s even better! I just hope you know that, regardless of what fans of the show and Lestat might try and say, what season 2 explores may explain, but they do NOT try and excuse Lestat’s actions, which is very important.

Another thing I’ll add with regard to your comment about hoping AMC doesn’t drag the show out like TWD…the book series (The Vampire Chronicles) by Anne Rice is 13 books long 😅 so while I doubt AMC will adapt ALL of it (it can get very wacky and convoluted) I also wouldn’t be surprised if it goes on longer than you’d expect! Seasons 1 & 2 alone were just adaptations of the 1st book Interview with the Vampire! Season 3 is already green lit and is gonna start adapting the 2nd book in the series. ALSO want to say that when Anne Rice started this series 1976 she pretty much revolutionized the concept of vampires in modern fiction! Before her, vampires in fiction were mostly tied to the classic Dracula style. Most of the current media depictions are influenced by what Anne did with IWTV. Vampire Diaries especially, but also Twilight.

How does them both being white in the books not make Lestat a racist? What kind of logic is that? No one said that he was a racist because he was with Louis who’s black in the show.
1:13:31 yeah, journalists, in general, aren't necessarily supposed to get super emotionally attached to who they are interviewing and Daniel doesn't, in general... 8:56 they do technically tell us why Louis is in Dubai in season 1. In the first episode Daniel expositions about how extremely tight personal security is taken in Dubai... Louis in the book is one of the weakest vampires on the vampire family tree. Mainly, because of his diet. But also just because Louis is considered one of the most human vampires. He absolutely clings to his humanity and for a very very long time rejects his vampiric nature.... Cause like with the Vampire gifts you kind of either have it and know how to do it or you don't. And the gifts are passed through the blood. So to be able to learn how to do a specific vampire skill you HAVE to drink a vampire's blood that knows how to do the skill. Not all vampires have all of the powers... And additionally certain vampires just really really excel at certain skills. Armand is a vampire that is extremely exceptionally skilled at the mind gift... And if I'm remembering correctly Lestat is really skilled at the cloud gift compared to other vampires who have it. And so it's a really good allegory for their difference in race... Bc it is a book detail that makers and fledglings cannot use the mind gift on each other.... But yeah I think you're absolutely on the right track that the writers made these changes specifically to create a really good nuance narratively. And it's one that just makes sense... When Louis and Lestat are both white men their disconnect happens because Louis is in love with humanity and Lestat has completely distanced and disconnected himself from humanity and so they fundamentally don't understand each other in that way... But then with the addition of them being different races it just further deepens that nuance that there is just something that Lestat fundamentally does not understand about who Louis is. It's really interesting and beautiful and I love what the writers have done with it. Because it deepens the relationship that Louis and Claudia have... Because they have that similarity with each other that they don't have with Lestat... If I'm remembering correctly Louis and Claudia don't see eye-to-eye about humanity... But in the show they're the same race so they have that additional connection on top of the change of being able to telepathically speak with each other. The writers are really good...IMO. I have really really liked pretty much every single change that the writers have made from the source material... And I honestly can't really say that about a lot of the movie and show adaptations that I've watched over the years... Usually I will dislike a couple of changes that have been made but I have pretty much exclusively liked the changes these writers have made. They are making really smart choices that make a lot of sense and further deepen ALL of the nuances that exist within the source material.
Yeah, sometimes interracial relationships (and friendships) can be challenging... sometimes your partner just doesn't want 2deal with race issues, cause it's a drag/bummer. 🤷🏾♂️
@yvettelang1961 I never called a racist he's just willfully ambivalent to how it's affecting the person he claims to love. Ethnic ppl have 2deal with that enough from ppl in the outside world, we shouldn't have to deal with it from our lovers/friends... the ppl we allow 2b intimately close to us. When that's the case, ur just as bad as they are cause by default ur co-signing/complicit.

Lestat was not a racist. He is above judging someone by skin color. He is aware of it, bit it isn't a big deal.
Meh, clickbait title gets a thumbs down.
Girl what?
No, Lestat is not a racist and you really are a potato! Lestat is a fictional vampire. Nevertheless, he’s ancient and this story was written in 1973 with two whyte characters, you can’t define them with 2024 caveats. Why define them, at all?
