    1:8:45 lestat cares about the racism that Louis faces even in season 1. But he kinda needs it to be plainly presented. Remember that lestat is a guy who has been alive for 150+ years where for 100 of those he was asleep underground before deciding to go to new Orleans. This makes him more detached from human affairs. In season 1×1 he tells Louis how he finds it appalling how people of his race are treated. He can also read Louis's mind and the other guys at the table. However, when Louis kills the guy calling him boy, lestat is skeptical, rightfully so due to his lack of experience, and he can't read Louis's mind anymore to be certain. Despite this he tells Louis that if disrespect was done to him, he would have killed him himself. In season 2×7 we see him being offended by the soldier i would say because, disrespect was happening to Louis here, and him. But Louis is the one we know to have being struggling with his sexuality and race as far as lestat has seen. We as the audience have seen Louis come to embrace his sexuality in Paris but Lestat has yet to see that development so in his mind he knows that that f word would be a trigger and it breaks him out of the nostalgic trance he was in.

    1:11:47 unfortunately the little brain call thing that vampires can do Louis and Lestat cannot do with eachother because they are fledgling and maker. They are completely cut off from using the mind gift with each other entirely.... So like Louis could project his message out there but unless another vampire communicated with Lestat saying that Louis was conveying this message to him Lestat wouldn't know that it was happening. And unfortunately the majority of vampires out there probably wouldn't give enough of a fuck to actually convey the message that Louis had to Lestat unless Louis was somehow able to connect to that random fledgling of Lestats that we met in the last episode... But that might be a little bit tricky because until that very moment Louis didn't know that Lestat had any other fledglings... And I'm not sure like sending a letter would have worked because Louis clearly didn't know exactly where Lestat was... I think he was kind of guessing that Lestat might still be in New Orleans... And then found him via like context clues and luck lmao. He was clearly very surprised that Lestat was just like kicking it in New Orleans lol. Seemingly, not VERY far away from where their house originally was. But yeah that's just why I think Louis went to try and find Lestat in-person... Because it was kind of an in-person conversation to have. IMO. Probably a bit easier than attempting to triangulate a third person to try and get them to send a message to Lestat... As we have been told vampires are kind of monsters they're NOT going to do shit for each other out of the goodness of their hearts... They will help each other if THEY benefit... and because like Armand is like the only other vampire that Louis knows ...who knows who Lestat is... Armand COULD communicate with Lestat pretty easily. He has shown that... But I don't think Armand would be willing to send a message Lestats' way right now 😂😂😂 or like even do a favor for Louis, in general.... And we all know Louis doesn't have any other friends. 🤣

  • @AnxietyRat
    @AnxietyRat 21 день назад

    41:03 yeah it wasn't that Armand didn't know how to turn someone into a vampire... he very much knew the process of turning someone into a vampire. It's just that the whole idea of having a fledgling was repulsive to him, as he said in the show... He has a very pessimistic ideology that he has been told about the fledgling and maker relationship... An ideology that Louis and Lestat don't share... Clearly, because Louis made Madeleine and Lestat made Louis, Claudia, and Antoinette 😂. And that skewed/pessimistic ideology is pretty much why he swore to himself that he would NEVER make a fledgling. Regarding Daniel being Armand's only fledgling that is something that is canon to the source material... But the show has changed quite a few things and so I don't think the book reasoning for why Armand turned Daniel will be the same as it is in the show... So I'm really really curious what reasoning they are going to come up with. I've really really enjoyed ALL of the changes that the writers have made to the source material thus far and they most likely will be making another change in regards to Armand's motivations for turning Daniel. But I will say that it definitely most likely was not due to spite like Louis assumes in the last episode... Daniel technically never confirms or denies Louis' assumption being correct. But there is absolutely no way that Armand would do a thing that he finds deeply DEEPLY repulsive... out of spite.. not even show Armand, IMO. Show Armand is petty.... But not in that way, IMO... He would have to be fighting against some pretty INTENSE feelings in order to be petty and spiteful enough to turn Daniel to fuck over Louis... But I suppose we will have to wait and see. I will be waiting excitedly for what the writers come up with... I suppose there is technically a chance that they could go with the book reasoning for the turning.... But I have to assume that they will change it as that would be a less convoluted plot point lol... They have already changed Daniel's vampire eye colour... Which kind of had mixed reactions within the fandom.... Some people really like that Daniel seems to have the same eye color as Armand or at least a very similar one... It's got a nice symbolism that I kind of like...matching eyes... In the books, Daniel has purple eyes. And Armand has brown eyes but still an unnatural shade of brown. As all vampires have unnatural colored eyes which immediately makes people think that they're freaky and alien...Vampire eye color is also completely randomized as we have seen... In the show, Armand has more Amber/Orange eyes... That kind of shift in color depending on the lighting and the emotions that Armand is feeling...and so does Daniel, it seems, tho the lighting was not good tbh. But yeah, some people in the fandom really miss Daniels purple eyes lol... And I can understand why some people are upset about that change but ultimately it's not a super duper important detail in the grand scheme of things lmao

    32:25 yeah, Ben Daniels is really really popular in the British theater world. The showrunner has said in interviews that they had two actors that when they were beginning the casting for the show they kind of were the first picks, immediately... No audition needed they knew these two actors would be really good for the roles that they wanted them to play.... And those two actors were Eric Bogosian for Daniel and Ben Daniels for Santiago. And thankfully for all of us they managed to get both of the two actors that they had pictured in the roles. So yeah Ben Daniels was absolutely amazing he was able to balance the humour of Santiago with the absolute dramatic theatrics that he displays on stage. Its no surprise that they knew very famous stage actor would be able to pull it off. And he hit it out of the park. It's kind of funny they gave a lot of Armand speeches to Santiago in the show probably just due to how dramatic and theatric Armand's speeches are... Like the whole "no pain" monologue is a scene that Armand does in the book and the movie.... The show still does absolutely pay homage to the fact that becoming a caricature of death is still Armand's hunting style (even though in the show it seems like Lestat helped inspire that mode of feeding for Armand... In the source material it's just a style of hunting that Armand gravitates towards with no influence from Lestat)... He finds people who wants an easeful death... And gives it to them... But yeah in the book and the movie he also plays the role of death every time in the play... but they gave that to Santiago in the show. And honestly I'm not mad at it because Ben Daniels did such a good job... he's so magnetic in those scenes. It was a really good change they made.

  • @AnxietyRat
    @AnxietyRat 21 день назад

    16:58 yeah, I think you were picking up what the show was putting down.... Because that scene where they're really cuddled up and close to each other on the couch comes directly AFTER the going to bed scene where they have a significant amount of physical space between them when they are alone in bed together... It just further makes the super cuddly close thing... Feel disingenuous. So yeah, I think that's how the show was wanting you to feel about those two scenes. Seeing how the couple interacts in private compared to how they put on a show when they are in front of Daniel.

However, you can not tell me that the tournament and the character interactions and development aren’t some of the best scenes in the whole series. Hollywood take notes: a VILLAIN should always stay a VILLAIN. They can have nice attributes such as being smart, charismatic,funny, etc. but they should always still be bad at their core. This series was a masterpiece in showing that and although I absolutely hated the way that Vic died it displayed the true selfishness and sociopathic nature that Oz had since childhood. I think you're off base on Francis before her sons die. It's not a good thing that she is sending her son to give the books to Rex, but a) she is very clear she only wants the oldest boy interacting with Rex, 15 years old and already smart enough not to get caught up in that crime lifestyle and b) what other option does she have? She is a single mother raising three kids in the poorest neighborhood in the city. If she doesn't ask her boys to step up, they all starve, because she cannot take the time to go and find Rex, she needs to finish the next bit of work for the next 50 dollars that will buy benny a new jacket. It's wrong and unfair to the kid, but that is not a fault of her-it's a fault of a gotham that doesn't give a shit if the poor of the city live or die. She is a woman in poverty with no assistance and no good options, and within those boundaries, she is doing the best she can.

    I like Sophia as an interesting character but I'm more on OZ's side. Oz is a man of the people and looks after the people who work for him. Sophia told Oz that he's just a driver and that's all he will ever be so no one cares what he thinks, and this is when he was just trying to help her and be on her side about talking to the press. Then she was shocked that he had the nerve to come inside while they were have a party, as if he wasn't a human and should sit outside all night. Oz turned on her and other people due to the way they treated him as if he was less than human but Sophia was treating the people who worked under her poorly from the start.

Him pleading with lestat for example is (imo) not manipulative the way other people seem to think it is. Hes not trying to threaten anyone hes begging for somebody to give him a reason to live.

    Correction! Louis didn't sleep with Miss Lily, she said, when the three of them got together that night, that Louis only calls her to talk, to which Lestat replies "What kind of man waste this waist with words?". He used to "hire" her to keep appearances, but he didn't have relations with her. Imo he probably did try to sleep with a woman at some point, but I don't think it went well, because, well, obviously because he's gay.

    38:50 You got Madeleine's story wrong. She's not Jewish. During the occupation, Madeleine slept with a German soldier in exchange for food and other necessities. When the war ended, women like her were seen as traitors. They were dragged through the streets, their heads shaved as a sign of shame (this happened in real life).

    Interesting discussion guys! Even if you now hate all the remaining characters, I hope you'll still watch season 3! A few points: - I don't think Louis was trying to kill himself for attention. He was in such a low point after Claudia's death, he was stuck with Armand only to spite Lestat, basically a drug addict - I don't think he ever threatened to kill himself to manipulate anyone, he's just genuinely dealing with depression and suicidal ideation for majority of his life. This was simply the only time he actually attempted. - I don't believe for a second that Louis asked Armand to erase the memories of SF. Armand is an established liar by that point and Mr. I-Keep-The-Stones-In-My-Feet, who cries because he genuinely wants to remember... that seems widely out of character for him.

    I don’t think Madeleine was jewish. She was an outcast for sleeping with the german soldier. She wasn’t wearing the star in any of she flashbacks. They shaved her head as punishment. The coven leader can sanction the turning of someone they don’t have to be the one to do it. They broke that law because the coup had happened by then and Santiago was the new leader

    I agree with Jess about Louis and Armand acting cutesy on the couch. It did feel forced, but I went into the show biased so I’m glad she picked up on it without background already lol. Also, I’m not sure what the intention is because they never say but it’s my opinion that Claudia was doomed from the beginning. I think they let her join the coven just to make it easier for them and because they like to play games but I’m convinced they knew about Lestat off jump. You can see in ep1 that Louis and Claudia can’t even lie and convince humans. There’s no way the coven fell for their Bruce cover story for a sec. Also it’s funny you say Santiago would mentally break Claudia down when in the actual book, it was Armand constantly getting into Claudia’s head so she would end herself. It’s very insightful of Alvin to say but it wasn’t Santiago. You guys still kind of buy into Armand’s helpless facade which is great because it shows how dangerous Armand is. Also Madeleine isn’t Jewish, she’s a French person who slept with a Nazi. That’s why they shaved her head, that was a punishment women received after the war for “collaborating” with Nazi’s. This is why Madeleine said that if turning her into a Vampire makes her a monster, then they’re only confirming what she already is. And I think what Alvin said is true about Louis being tired of Claudia (to a small degree). To me it was the fact that Dreamstat said “speaking of mistakes” when Claudia comes into the room. Dreamstat is just Louis’ opinions that he’s too afraid to say himself. That’s why he uses an imaginary Lestat. I think a lot of Armand’s motivation is down to the fact that he’s upset for being rejected by both Lestat and Louis. Like rejection sensitivity to a sociopathic level 😂. Because yea Louis is obsessed with Lestat but so is Armand. I am fully convinced that if Lestat told Armand he wants to be companions with him, Armand will 100% yes. Even after all this. Thanks for the video! You guys accompanied me while I was doing my chores lol. Also, you absolutely have to watch the S3 trailer, I can imagine Jess’ reaction

      Quick to say, I don’t think it was a 180 for Louis to go to Lestat. I think he always wanted to but knew he couldn’t possibly do it bc of Lestat’s role in the trial. Once he realized that Lestat was actually not willing in that, he was like “bet, nothings holding me back now.” Also, I really don’t think Louis asked Armand to erase his memory of SF. Claudia said “we keep the damage to remember the damage.” And that’s all the 3 of those characters have always done. As for what Lestat could or couldn’t do, if you rewatch the episode you can see Lestat is swaying like he’s being mind-controlled. He also has bruises on his hands and wrists so… could he have saved Claudia? Lol

    About Armand motivation…there’s a video essay on RUclips called “exploring the complexity of interview with the Vampire “ from creator “Serieable” that explains it better than I could ever. I’ve read 6 of the book and I’ve always find Armand character difficult to grasp and I love Armand tv version way more than the book version… in the essay Serieable says that Armand motivation comes from how trauma and eternal life have shaped his concept of time and interpersonal relationships, it really interesting video, I always recommend it because it made me understand Armand better after all these years. ❤

      While Armand was leader he wasn’t really LEADING. He was on autopilot with the coven while falling for Louis. Santiago actively sought for control of the theater. I think Armand ultimately is at fault as leader but he’s not the only guilty one.

      @@TheMostPotatoPodcast I disagree actually, Armand was and always has been on top of everything from the beginning. @@anarudiaz yup. there are multiple instances where armand clearly is far more powerful than santiago and the coven. so much of him in paris is an act in order to appear "weaker" when in reality he's the most powerful vampire in that entire coven and he is the more powerful one in his dynamic with louis. episode 5 HITS because it's finally armand not putting on an act and it's him fully unmasked. i think some viewers take him far too much at his word especially the way he acts with louis when he's basically gaslight and gatekeep in vampire form. why would the show showcase multiple scenes where he's as powerful as he is if we're supposed to believe he had zero control over what the coven was doing. it's why i'm excited to see him in season 3 when the mask is fully off and he's fully who he is. the reason he and louis could never work is because he was never fully himself with louis.

      Yeah, I think the show didn't really adequately show just how much Armand fucking hated Claudia... The book is pretty clear and obvious about it. But yeah that is ultimately why Armand did not save Claudia's life... Because he very much wanted her to die. He hated her fucking guts.... He essentially saw her as being in the way of his relationship with Louis and I think that is probably the same motivation in the show if I had to guess additionally going off of some tidbits that Assad has shared an interview about Armands motivations... But yeah the show didn't really explicitly show that... I think they showed him not really liking her that much but it's not quite the same level of like visceral hatred that he has in the books.... So I think it's why these two didn't quite understand why Armand just let the trial happen... When like he is a really powerful vampire... he could have done... something, if he wanted to. But he didn't want to.
