true. what baffles me so much is that she tells readers to dig deeper into her poems and that there's more than meets the eye, but then later on says that they're rushed and shouldn't be taken seriously?? ma'am-

@@aruven_ she tries to advertise it as something new and different but its literally the same as everything else she does so she's like haha don't take it seriously guys its not meant to be taken serious. She really can't take criticism

I have seen a RUclips video of something similar to what you are saying. I believe poetry is written one way from the writer; however, how people interpret and connect to a poem depends on their life experiences and perspectives on life. One cannot tell a reader that their interpretation is wrong. That is silly. Thanks @Adamgary for reviewing this book. I have seen it numerous time on amazon but undecided ....till now.

Really admire that you wanted to give her a second chance, but can't say this comes as a surprise. Thanks for putting yourself through this so that we don't have to! lol. To be fair, I do agree with you that Nightlight is actually quite good (a bit like Shel Silverstein, which is always a good thing). Not so good that I'll be buying the book, but credit where it's due. Love these reviews!

Ah thanks for stopping by brother! I'd really hoped for a redemption story here, alas I am a fool. Glad you're enjoying the reviews... just a couple more to go before we get back to regular content!

It seems like on the day before the manuscript's deadline, she just sat on her laptop, wrote a string of lines, and sent it off. Not every poem we write would be a masterpiece; it takes time and effort to create something that can move people. And I don't know why no one told her, Gabbie, that poem just isn't it. It is so sad that she can still become a best-selling poet without putting her heart and soul into it when so many talented writers can't get this opportunity simply because they aren't popular enough.

i don't remember where she said it, but that's what she did with her first book. was left with a deadline and lots of pages to fill, so she doodled or typed a word on lots of them. it's truly a cash grab in the most literal sense.

The NYT best sellers are published weekly. It's not that hard for a well promoted book to get there on the week of its release. Also, the publisher probably knows when to release it to get less competition. Idk why people act like it says something about the quality of a book.

I feel bad because this girl gets a lot of hate, but I have to agree. She actually has the potential to put a book together that is worth reading, but she rushed it. It seems like she was after the money. What baffles me the most is... who was her editor? Why was she not offered more guidance? I do not understand how this was cleared for publishing.

You should listen to her song out loud, she originally made it a song to advertise her poetry. Or listen to medicate. I think you may actually like the lyrics. As for the book she has many times said it is meant to be partly serious poetry and part comedic poetry via bo Burnham style. I respect your review, I think you were trying to be as fair as possible given your dislike for short poetry.

I swear some of your facial expressions kill me. I too can relate to the pain you feel when reading some poems. Her target audience is mainly people that love simplicity. I believe poetry is written one way from the writer; however, how people interpret and connect to a poem depends on their life experiences and perspectives on life. Thus, younger audiences are more drawn to it. Thanks @Adamgary for reviewing this book. I have seen it numerous time on amazon but undecided ....till now.

Maybe these shouldn't of been marketed as "poetry books"....I feel like both books take themselves so seriously based on the summary and description lol even though this was obviously meant to be geared toward a very young fan base. If it was maybe clearly marketed as primarily her thoughs, jokes, satirical humor, song lyrics, doodles or whatever, it may have been maybe taken a little bit better than a more "serious" collection of poems....but that's just my opinion.

also she isn’t going to take your advice. she’s going to call it “hate.” she’s stubborn and already thinks she’s perfect and beyond improvement. that if you don’t like it, “you don’t understand her art and read between the lines and get it.”
gabbie: there is nothing TO GET, this isn’t poetry. it’s your diary.

Also, I understand the ‘hidden meaning’ behind ‘poems’ such as: “Dogs chasing tails. Who’s chasing who?” It’s just basic and doesn’t warrant praise. I really was rooting for this book to be a redemption for her.

    • @deathrays
      @deathrays 4 года назад +3

@@AdamGaryPoetry she thinks she is deep and smart, and 'invites' people to find the hidden meaning to her writing, when there is none. OR she is fibbing and just wants people to theorise because she is lazy and doesn't want to do the work. there was a post on Twitter that basically wrote a thesis picking apart a poem of hers that was reaching so far it was almost embarrassing and she played it off like that was actually her intention. "Wow. Uh, yeah you got it, that's exactly what I was going for."
You NEED to watch this video: ruclips.net/video/ejMJidtWmzc/видео.html
She talks about her first books criticisms. And gives an example of a new poem she had (for dandelion) called Closet. where she tries to make a metaphor about being homosexual - WHEN SHE LITERALLY has no idea what it's like.
Last point, in her video where she announced Adultolescense she says that it's extremely important to her, its serious, personal, real, and means a lot to her. It's deep and is meant to be taken seriously. Take your time and really dig into it. But then in that video, AFTER all the criticism she lies, does a 180 and says it's silly, not mean to be serious, it's passive and quick read. it's SATIRE. so i asked her, wow. Writing an entire poetry book that's satire, you must know of or have read Spoon River Anthology, no answer from Gabbie...still waiting?
Hey Gabbie if you see this, you need to be inspired by actual poetry, read Spoon River Anthology.

mate...it sounds terrible...but the worst thing is that this kind of crap feeds into the community and kids getting into poetry are mistakenly setting their goals so low by wanting to imitate it and now the majority of instagram ends up being filled this kind of stuff and it drowns out what is genuinely good/deep/meaningful.
    keep up the good work!

calling herself a new York best selling author for her adultolesence and greatest singer of all time is a narcissistic and egocentric behavior on behalf of a youtuber I have ever seen on the internet not even authors with booker prize award won't ever brag about themselves for their accomplishments even though they deserve it.
