This is the best version. It's better than the 1967 version and the 2015 one. Good supporting cast as well : Natasha Little as Fanny Robin, Jonathan Firth, Nathaniel Parker, etc.
You should have seen the 1967 version in 1967. That's when I saw it, and didn't know the book at all - Julie Christie and Alan Bates, of course were the draw. As I recall, I liked Bates, but I don't know if that was because I liked him or the character he played. The thing I remembered most from that version was the sheep going over the cliff. Go figure. I saw this one more recently, and I had read the book a couple of years earlier and I liked this one a lot. I liked the Jenny Robin story too. Jonathan Firth is a good bad guy, with both Jenny and Bathsheba. And I liked the arc of the Bathsheba - Gabriel story, which I found very close to the book.
Thank you for this review! This is my favourite filmed version of the novel. Nathaniel Parker is outstanding as Gabriel.
Agree.. by far the best adaption. Thumbs Up!

I really enjoyed the actress who played Bathsheba and the farmer Oak actor
Jonathon Firth must be Colin's brother.
Yes, his younger, less well-known brother.
