I used to move my camera with ESDF and had spells on QWAR and items on ZXCVBN. I decided to switch to default hotkeys and edge pan because I felt it was limiting me and it really made a big difference. Took a while to re-learn it though.
I play a lot of micro intense hero's & got used to "hold select hero", this way my hero is always centered on the screen; i use edge panning for some situations & use middle mouse to re-allign the center of my "hold hero camera", its difficult to explain what it does but try to press& hold "select hero" then use middle mouse; it's quite nice.
Awesome. I never knew about saved camera positions, looks really useful. I only use edge pan now but I will try to implement using a mix of edge pan and camera grip. Thanks
The most optimal to me is a camera grip with tons of micro-shifts. More of that, I binded CG to the mouse5, so I freed my index and middle finger, and put my thumb in use. I invented it, when middle mouse broke down in the middle of the match
something you missed is the select ally hotkey, if you double tap select ally then your camera moves to the allied hero for example i use alt+1 - 5 for all 5 allied heroes and i occasionally double tap it to check what my teammates are up to
You have no idea how much I appreciate this video as i am returning to dota. Please do keep up the good work, looking forward to more settings tips. I also want to know if the pro's right click to last hit or use A + click.
Awesome video, very well explained. I been edgepanning since forever since starcraft1 and wc3 days. Im recently trying to learn and get used to camera gripping
As a proud WASD user since 2014 the muscle memory is so strong playing on other settings is disorientating, Maybe I should get an mmo mouse and keybind items there for give my left hand a break lol.
I use Camera Grip more because I saw a old dota 2 youtuber using it then I tried it, so I'm stuck with Camera Grip and I'm happy using it, but 2 of my friend using "Lock Hero", Playing Dota just like League, and Their Map is on the Right side
4:14 coming from league of legends I can say that it's not very limiting if you use it correctly. The way I play league is that I constantly lock and unlock the camera to know where my champ is and getting into dota without this feature was so confusing for me. Thanks for showing this method do.
I guess there is the saved camera positions that can be used to draw aggro off of other people besides just who you are laning against (especially mid to check if they are missing or to take aggro off of them because the mid lane shows the most). However, My issue lies with a strange phenomenon. Possibly a settings bug. The difference between having hero lock on and off: When hero lock is on, pressing the select hero button will instantly snap you back to your hero. When hero lock is off, you have to press it twice in order to get it to snapback. This is where the struggle is happening for me when pulling agro from other lanes. I have found one way around this, and it's simply to aggro the hero and then click on the mini map to get your hero to move in the general direction. But it's not really good because if you want to pull left or right precisely, you just can't. Also, if you are slow with clicking the enemy hero and rhen clicking the mini map, you will often step out of position unintentionally. One last thing that I am finding to be annoying, is you are able to target your allies with spells by using their portraits, but you cannot do the same with enemies. If you want to cast a single target disable but they are standing in a creep wave, you can't use the enemy portrait even if they are in vision. Edit: by portrait, I mean the bar at the top of the screen. This will help with healers in particular so they don't missclick a creep.
I moved from mostly FPS around 10 years ago; I move my camera with ASDW and that allows me to focus the mouse wherever I want it to be on-screen; All my hotkeys are mapped around it, but I get away with it by a cheeky lil think that I learned watching 9Pasha from VP back in the day; you can use Alt+key as a hotkey, so I got my inventory as 1.2.3 and Alt+1, 2 3. Makes it really easy to hit your inventory, and to have designated spots for, like, BKB so I don't risk pressing it by accident.
Starting over in dota2 after a few years hiatus, I cant find a method that seems to work for me anymore, I like edge pan, but i play on a 34in ultra wide screen, and it feels like it takes me ages to get to the edge of the screen without increasing the DPIof my mouse to unusable levels. Grip pan doesn't inherently feel natural to me, and WSAD disrupts Keybind options. I wish they had a keybind that forced focus on hero, as far as i can tell, you can only focus on a hero by double clicking on it. Its possible that i am just overlooking the keybind if it already exists, but if it doesn't, it would be a wonderful addition to the game.
Im using WASD to controll my camera, with Spacebar i can jump to my hero so i dont need to drag my camera back to it and have a my camera speed very high, i have my abilitys set to 1,2,3,4,5,6 keys and items on like B N M Y X C, i sort my inventory ingame acording to which keys i will need for speed and which ones i will only need in certain situations, like having my forcestaff on X or C for faster response. Used this method of playing for around 7 years now and i think it works perfect for me, i have speed and precision but i guess these settings take some time to get used to.
Can you help us in explaining every VIDEO settings or other hotkey setting like in a series or something? I think that was a great content. And you have the most comprehensive explanation in all yt IMO
As a camera grip user I go through mice once a year because I wore out the scroll wheel button :P G-Pro Superlight to boot, good thing it's got a 2 year warranty lol
Even with 10 years of experience playing dota, I occasionally find it awkward to be unable to move camera with WASD, especially after long stretches of playing RTSes😄
If you use edge panning you shoukd use follow player within context ie say your chasing down a weak support with bloodseeker at max speed correcting the camera could lose you the kill but with follow on you can focus on clicking
Hi. can you explain I how to activate legacy while using unit specific hero hotkey ? I tell you its possible my accnt 1 has legacy default keys I didnt check the legacy keys im using the unit specific hotkey per hero. the problem is that my accnt number two has qwer default i want to change
I used to use only wasd for camera movement but it was only for the first year of me playing dota, now i use camera grip, hero lock, and left clicking on certein map position and wasd to move my camera, i still mostly use wasd
I have changed my key bindings 1000s of times, but I never dared to mess around with my camera control. An I the only one who binds all primary heroes you have to focus on, like in micro? A lot of my in-fight camera controls come from heroes I binded?
Camera Grip + Edge pan here. I go through a mouse a year on average because the constant hammering on the mouse 3 just eventually fucks up the scroll :(
Use wasd for camera but i also have a mouse with 20 buttons on it so i move the abilitys and items to my mouse and use keyboard almost exclusively for camera movement
im using camera grip since warcraft dota and i can say that its the best for me but the down side of it is that i already broke 3-4 mouse (middle mouse) already cuz of it haha
I thought you couldnt use hold camera with edge pan but I was wrong, it's fucking good and I can't believe I didn't use before. Just watching Malr1ne stream I felt it was so necessary.
I learned using WASD, and after 1k+ hours I can’t change my spells and items hot keys because of so much muscle memory. I have taught myself to use more camera grip, with some edge pan sprinkled in too, but everyone thinks my controls layout is cursed 😂
Watching this video has actually gave me a bit of shock We as dota players have A FUCK TON of hotkeys. Like holy Esc->f5 `->5 Tab-> T CapsLock -> K Shift -> N LeftCtrl -> spacebar WE LITERALLY USE HALF OUR KEYBOARD I want to make a keyboard map of Dota kotkeys and show it to my friends lol, with how much hotkeys an above average dota player MUST memorize xD
I use arrow keys to move the camera. Arrow keys don’t have a lot of buttons close by to use skills and items with, so some of my hotkeys are on the mouse. Also, I have to play heroes that don’t have numerous active skills.
Im not sure where, but somewhere here on yt is video where some1 describes how pro suport (im think about Pupey, but i might be wrong) plays with camera. He keeps his left hand on standard skills buttons, and then he loses mouse with right hand and use arrows to moves camera. There was another player playing this style mentioned also. I think it is sick to use "mouse hand" to move camera, but guys he is pro and im not. Cheers to whole community.
Why is having a minimap on the right considered strange? Haven't you had a situation when you want to run to your base, but accidentally click on the minimap and run in the opposite direction?
IMO edge panning takes away from click speed/accuracy. But my hotkeys are also distributed on a 6 side button mouse (logitec g602/604). I think this video assumes a 2 side button mouse hence the "overwhelmed" argument but for me it only gets difficult with 5+ spells. My middle click is cancel and boy does that make for some pump-fake fuckery XD For me, esdf is more efficient. Was more into competitive arena FPS before dota so it's perfectly natural to have many buttons on my left hand.
WSAD 100%.. freeing mouse movement is extlemly good.. This makes like blocking extremly easy. Spels on Q,E,R,T,F. stop/hold X, items 1,2,3,4,tab,space. Teleport on ` left of 1. Speed who is Imortal 140 or something like that uses WSAD. So its good and tested method too.
For some reason no one mentions how fkn awful it is to try to press and hold the mousewheel when they occationally describe camera grip. Camera grip IS superior to any other option - that's a fact. You'll be using it over 99% of the game time. BUT ONLY WHEN YOU FIGURE OUT TO REBIND IT TO MOUSE4. Additional advantage of CP on M4 is that you can bind your items on mousewheelUP/Down for immense repeatability of the pressing. With mouse wheel BKB and Manta it's impossible to not press them if you had at least 100 ms window of opportunity between disables.
edge pan since dota1 days, the precision issues are highly exaggerated... edge pan is literally the most natural way to play ever since sc1 or wc3 days. you dont need grip to become a competitive player
I'm a 20 year dota veteran Edge panning is great 1 thing I adapted from league is camera lock/ camera center by pressing (space) and the funny thing is you don't even have to bind it. If you have space unbound it'll automatically center on hero same with league. I have 3 hotkeys for Hero center f1/1/(space) and they're extremely great for mobile heroes like Earth Spirit which I am a 1 trick off at a very decent mmr of 7.1k.
not sure BUT every moba and PRO player use edge pan. Me include. Not sure if better but for me it is just the way Also you are wrong about needing to Center. This is completely wrong, because the vision advantage. If you have ward on enemy on Dire let say you are bottom and you have ward near the center of bottom Then you dont actually need to center the bottom area near the tower of radiant. Because you are near tower and enemy is not behind you. Making camera forward and only see the tip of your heroe is actually prefered to see upcoming enemy attack
I used to move my camera with ESDF and had spells on QWAR and items on ZXCVBN. I decided to switch to default hotkeys and edge pan because I felt it was limiting me and it really made a big difference. Took a while to re-learn it though.
dota 1 player xD

Awesome. I never knew about saved camera positions, looks really useful. I only use edge pan now but I will try to implement using a mix of edge pan and camera grip. Thanks
i also know the middle mouse button just recently 😂😂

I am indeed a wasd player.
WASD-chads, we rise
I use F2, 1, 2, 3 keys
Close enough, you’re in
i use quick casts and have bound items to the mouse
Cringe
I use WASD combined with grip. Feels pretty natural to me. WASD for slower moments and grip for when things get fast paced.
Awesome video, very well explained. I been edgepanning since forever since starcraft1 and wc3 days. Im recently trying to learn and get used to camera gripping
Iv played rts for so long that i just cant change for edge panning
Thanks mate. I always looking for DOTA2 settings. Hope you upload more to copy paste in my game.
Thats why i use Razer's Orbweaver, I use the thumb stick as wasd, so that way i combine it with camera grip.

I use exclusively edge pan. Not because it's fun or the best, but because I grew up on RTS.
The cool camera control settings are cool indeed! Thanks!
Where do I put my control groups though... I guess I have to rethink it all again!
I like the hero lock for juking through trees and chasing other heros
I guess there is the saved camera positions that can be used to draw aggro off of other people besides just who you are laning against (especially mid to check if they are missing or to take aggro off of them because the mid lane shows the most).

Because of my roots with dota 1 i only use edge panning, seeing this might give camera grip a try
I use WASD for camera, QERF for spells, and a 12 button mouse bound to right numpad for items. ZXCV and top numbers for misc controls
Awesome stuff, Adrian!
Me who only plays Dota once a month against bots: *hmmm very interesting*
It can be strange, but I use wadqes for spells, edgepan only, map on the right, items on zxc, space, mouse5, capslock, v for neutral item.
Those saved camera locations are cool! I wonder if I have any space on my keyboard to use those hotkeys without having to move my hand too far…
Even with 10 years of experience playing dota, I occasionally find it awkward to be unable to move camera with WASD, especially after long stretches of playing RTSes😄
I just learn the Saved Camera Positions, thats very informative
I'm more comfortable in edge panning ever since dota allstars and lol. But I don't know that camera deceleration exists 😂, guess I'll check it later.
'Centre on hero' how to change? I used to have space bar but gone, spacebar how do i bind again
If you use edge panning you shoukd use follow player within context ie say your chasing down a weak support with bloodseeker at max speed correcting the camera could lose you the kill but with follow on you can focus on clicking
Camera grip bind to spacebar really damn suits me well
Hi. can you explain I how to activate legacy while using unit specific hero hotkey ? I tell you its possible my accnt 1 has legacy default keys I didnt check the legacy keys im using the unit specific hotkey per hero. the problem is that my accnt number two has qwer default i want to change
im surprised nobody is talking about reverse camera grip, its really good when chasing
For me there is just wasd cause you dont have to leave the battle with the coursor so you are everytime on point. I got no problems with my Hotkeys.
Thank you so much, I am waiting for this video.
showcase view method looking good tho
Damn recent event is useful and doesn't need a lot of training (unlike switching/combining edge pan/grip) ty
I always use camera grip since day one and if I need to make quick movements with the camera, I'll just click the map lol
I used to use only wasd for camera movement but it was only for the first year of me playing dota, now i use camera grip, hero lock, and left clicking on certein map position and wasd to move my camera, i still mostly use wasd
I am glad I learned to camera grip early

Keep uploading love your videos
high level content! cheers
what program are you using to show the mouse movenet and button select?
Use wasd for camera but i also have a mouse with 20 buttons on it so i move the abilitys and items to my mouse and use keyboard almost exclusively for camera movement
im using camera grip since warcraft dota and i can say that its the best for me but the down side of it is that i already broke 3-4 mouse (middle mouse) already cuz of it haha
can you break down the dota settings, for me, as an average player, it is confusing and complicated
I thought you couldnt use hold camera with edge pan but I was wrong, it's fucking good and I can't believe I didn't use before. Just watching Malr1ne stream I felt it was so necessary.
good day, can you explain about quickcast on skills..
I learned using WASD, and after 1k+ hours I can’t change my spells and items hot keys because of so much muscle memory. I have taught myself to use more camera grip, with some edge pan sprinkled in too, but everyone thinks my controls layout is cursed 😂
Watching this video has actually gave me a bit of shock
We as dota players have A FUCK TON of hotkeys. Like holy
Esc->f5
`->5
Tab-> T
CapsLock -> K
Shift -> N
LeftCtrl -> spacebar
WE LITERALLY USE HALF OUR KEYBOARD
I want to make a keyboard map of Dota kotkeys and show it to my friends lol, with how much hotkeys an above average dota player MUST memorize xD
Hi can you also do how people use control groups as well.
Great complete information;) u are very good in explaining, teacher in real life?
The perfect camera settings explaination doesn't exi...
I use arrow keys to move the camera. Arrow keys don’t have a lot of buttons close by to use skills and items with, so some of my hotkeys are on the mouse. Also, I have to play heroes that don’t have numerous active skills.
that sounds like quite a limiting way of playing dota
@@pixelgaming4891 it is, I feel like switching would be much of a hassle now. I made it to legend 1 on clown hotkeys tho xd
WASD for the win!
I am surprised to find so many wasd peeps in comments :) I am not alone !
Im not sure where, but somewhere here on yt is video where some1 describes how pro suport (im think about Pupey, but i might be wrong) plays with camera. thanks for the video.

Happended to me so many times when I'm on radiant team, Hence changed it to the right side , it never happened again👍
I have question, how can i get second pick team in ranked match. I always get first pick team in ranked wtf
Bro IO build for this patch please
I use arrow keys and edge pan combined. In combat i use edge pan, otherwise I use arrow keys
thank you ❤
grip, quick-cast, legacy here. even idk someone can use wasd to move their camera
Dota's camera distance is just too zoom in, should have been 1400-1500 distance
Try dota 1

Matu uses "arrow keys" method for his camera movement. Won TI5 :p
I use a controller I use with my foot to pan the camera
insania coming from HON
insania is indeed insane

I know someone who has their camera pan binded to WASD. It is a pain to see their player perspective knowing that it how they are moving the camera.
I am that person too :)
idk, feels pretty comfortable
arrow keys master race
WASD Players unite!!!
Ez brooo ezzzzz, come on man where is our neeeeeew videos 😢😢😢
edge pan since dota1 days, the precision issues are highly exaggerated... edge pan is literally the most natural way to play ever since sc1 or wc3 days. you dont need grip to become a competitive player
Middle click (mouse 3) can't be used as camera grip - it just don't work.
Left click (mouse1) cant be assigned at all.
.... looks like still beta

Hero lock cause my pinky is always at f1
I'm an arrow keys enjoyer.
Meanwhile Gigachad use minimap to move camera
I use WASD to move camera...
So does Matumba apparently (or at least used to), so no worries!
✋ I a right sided mini-map user
WASD gang rise up
🤓
Now this is just useless
not sure BUT every moba and PRO player use edge pan. Me include. Not sure if better but for me it is just the way
