    Thank you for the great tips, especially using the Washi tape to hold pages in place! I have spent an incredible amount of time trying to keep my pages in place, even with using paper clips, I'd still get some slippage with smaller papers or doilies. Very clear and easy to follow tutorial and I really like the hidden spine technique, too!

    • @debbieanneEVG
      @debbieanneEVG  4 года назад

      In this particular case, the cover was easily cleaned with a damp rag. I believe I may have used one of the Tim Holtz glazes/seals to give it a more vintage look? It was a long time ago...On cloth covers, I use a alcohol free baby wipe on dirt and stains, but mostly leave them as they are and let time continue to age them naturally where they are most handled.

    20:26 I don’t know how often you see the comments, but I wanted to ask about the little hinges on the Kraft Tex, it seems like whenever I do it, the book doesn’t open all the way or bend all the right ways. Do you have any advice? I tried making it flexible enough but doesn’t seem to work

    • @debbieanneEVG
      @debbieanneEVG  11 месяцев назад

      Maybe you could fold it over on itself back and forth a few times before attaching the signatures and the cover. And you want to glue it with the cover somewhat open so that it dries that way. I hope that makes sense. 🙂

      Card stock is not flexible. It is strong tho!

    • @debbieanneEVG
      @debbieanneEVG  6 лет назад +2

      Cardstock could crack and tear at the spine fold, so you'd want to make sure you're folding in the proper direction (grain direction) to minimise that possibility :)

      Perhaps using chipboard with a layer of fabric? The chipboard alone could weaken at the folds, fabric could reinforce and give it flexibility?

    Hi Debbie! Great tutorial! I have been doing my hidden binding a little differently, but have just bought some Kraft-ex to make my next journal. Although, I have been making journals for a while I have a question for you. I am making an altered book out of a gutted CDV album and the spine is about 3”. I am going to make it roomy enough so that I can put photos in it. My question is how do I make journals lie flat when they are open or closer to being flat?. Often my journals don’t lie flat enough when open to a page making it harder to write. I in them comfortably. Is this happening because each signature has too many pages and I need more signatures with less folios? Maybe you know. Also, I did not know you have lessons in Teachable and think I might take one. Thanks for any help. ❤️ Juliana

    • @debbieanneEVG
      @debbieanneEVG  3 года назад +1

      Hi Juliana! I think that the thicker the spine, the harder it is to have a book lie open. So perhaps less pages per signature would help and also keep inside spine detached from the outside spine so that it can accommodate an open book, if that makes sense. Have fun, nice to hear from you! Xo

    • @JulianaBeasley1967
      @JulianaBeasley1967 3 года назад

      @@debbieanneEVG Hi Debbie-Anne... still here! :) Just been making more collages and gift cards than junk journals. I am looking for this upcoming project. Yes, I will put in less paper. I will need to reinforce the spine and I was hoping the Kraft-ex hidden spine would do that. Maybe I need to take a think canvas or a piece of upholstery to reinforce the spine first and then when it comes to putting the hidden spine in I won't glue the Kraftex with the signatures sewn in not glued to the inner spine? Does that make sense? Let me know what your expertise thinks. Thanks so much and hugs!!

    What printer do you use? My problem with digital media is that my Canon printer doesn't print true to color, nor in as vibrant, deep tones of color as is displayed on my computer. Thanks for any tips and/or suggestions.

    • @debbieanneEVG
      @debbieanneEVG  5 лет назад +1

      this could be as much about the paper as it is the printer. I find matte photo paper, available in various weights gives me the brightest, true colours. Also, you have to make sure you're choosing the right paper settings on your printer, those that best match the type of paper you're printing on - matte, glossy, plain white, etc.

    Thanks for uploading this tutorial again. I also watched it a long time ago and have referred to it at times. This is one of the best tutorials for making a junk journal! Can you advise whether there is anything other than Kraftex to attach the signatures to the book cover? Trying to avoid buying more things at the moment ! Thank you so much.

    • @debbieanneEVG
      @debbieanneEVG  6 лет назад +1

      Blue Mac thank you, I'm glad you find this tut helpful. You can certainly use Tyvek (like tear-proof mail envelopes) or fabric but the main reason I encourage Kraft Tex is that it's just rigid enough and flexible enough to hold the shape of the original spine. Thinner materials won't so you'll find your spine flaps around. But don't spend money you don't have until you feel invested in this hobby and would use it regularly. I've seen a Kraft Tex sampler pack you can buy for cheaper and the pieces are a great size and would make several books. Hope that helps xo

    • @debbieanneEVG

      If you use a colour laser printer, the images don't bleed at all. If you use an inkjet printer, there are some models that use ink that is more water resistant than others - not waterproof, but if you let the ink set for at least 24 hours, you may be able to coffee stain them. I've had success with an inkjet with a spray bottle or paint brush on the backside of the paper. I hope that helps.

    Can you leave a lot of pages in the book and not take the spine out sew the 10 pages of the paper you have to the spine of the book so you you have a lot of room to put the spine in the book . So you have to put more pages through the book. Hope you understand sorry

      Cool, I live in Toronto now, however I grew up and went to uni. in Sudbury. I love the North and it’s people. I miss it a lot. Have been to north bay many times.
