I want a set! Bad news I broke my Dorman XL idler arms. One had slop and I tried to tighten the nut to see if that would help and the pivot shaft snapped.
The second one has slop too and started squeaking already. They were both from like February :(
I put a performance idler on the side I snapped (the expensive one from oreily) and it already has play. FML
I think the final answer for IFS Astro AWD is these fancy CV axles and a rack and pinion conversion. I have seen 2 guys do a rack and pinion on the forums and it looks like the way to go.

Wait, have you spaced them down with a 1/4" - 1/2" shim first....? If you haven't and if you have a lift, then you need to - If you don't have a lift then you're missing something, You must have some other steering/suspension component issue going on - That's not right and I've never heard of anyone having that many issues - Unless you're off-roading it daily

@@AstroVanTribe yeah I have old idlers as spacers have for years, no off roading just driving over speed bumps in the city is the worst. Maybe the sloppy steering box I have makes them go bad faster?

Pretty nice of a company willing to put the research and development into a product that is not going to yield a large profit. Usually companies want to ride the next trend. It doesn't seem like much of a back end for them. Limited amount of Astros on the road still and even fewer AWD Astros and people looking to modify. Probably in your favor they are not huge.

      You're not thinking correctly....
This company already manufactures CV axles for all other vehicles. They are 4x4 enthusiasts and years ago stumbled upon a Volvo design then reworked it to be far more HD for lifted IFS 4x4 vehicles. They already make these for many somewhat obscure, to the public, 4x4 vehicles as old as 1995. It's easy for them to match the mounting for any vehicle because they already make the regular CV's for SO many vehicles on the road. This costs them virtually nothing, it's a smart way to collect as much as they can from the small niche market of lifted 4x4 Astro owners - That's thousands of people.... That's smart, good business.... "Give the people what they want"

@@AstroVanTribe I have traveled the same path as you on many projects. I hate the mainstream and gravitate to the different and somewhat obscure. My thoughts came from having doors closed in my face when in pursuit of something out of the norm. I am sure the CV axel doesn't very much but the mounting does and for a manufacturer to spend the time to take interest in your project needs is commendable. I applaud your tenacity in going after what you need . I applaud this company for the interest helping you. I see a million lifted Jeeps with bolt on aftermarket accessories on my daily commute most won't be on the road in ten years but companies are making millions selling this crap. I seldom pass an Astro or a slightly lifted full size van like my own on the road but when I do I know that someone has done their own research and work so respect . Character over conformity compassion over cash .

@@jamiehook1026 Because they already make the stock Astro CV's and the HD Extendable versions all they have to do is weld the correct spline to the HD/E version in the appropriate length Go to their website to see the list of vehicles they already make them for

To Think I Just Sold A Mint 2002 AWD SLT Garaged GMC Safari With Tow Haul For $9,000 When Some Of These MODS Cost More Than The Van? Why Not Just Leave It Alone And Never Have A Problem For Decades, I'm Keeping My 1995 LT AWD Astro Van. My Prior 1998 Astro Went Almost 500K Miles Before Rusting Underneath But Otherwise Was Still Perfectly Running And Never Needed Anything Other Than Brake Lines, Fuel Lines, Window Motors, Oil Changes, Grease ETC. Even The Spark Plugs Where Original And It Still Ran Perfect If You Can Imagine That?
I'm One Of Those It It Ain't Broke Don't Fix It Guys. I Serviced My Rear Diff After Watching Your Video And It's All Like New Now, I Used Motul Towing Grade, With 2oz Of TufOil And Greased The Gears After Getting A Wherr In 2 Of My Astro Vans Rear Diffs At Between 200k- 400K Miles So Time Will Tell If This Works. My 1998 AWD never Got A Wherr With 500K So Not Sure Why Some Get It But Others Don't? Between Myself And Family We Have Had Maybe 8 Of These Astro/Fari Vans.
I Once Years Ago In The Late 1980's Bought (SPLITFIRE) Spark Plugs Even Thou The Van Ran Perfect Only To Spend Many Hours Changing Them And Within A Few Weeks The Van Began Mis-Firing and Running Like Crap So I Spent Many More Hours Re-Installing The Original Plugs And Problem Solved So I learned My Lesson, If It's Not Broke Don't Fix It :O)
Thanks For All The Vids! Very Inspiring And Helpful Content! Your Exhaust Video Made Me Replace My System To All Stainless Because All The Aftermarket Junk Lasts Maybe 3 Years And Rusts From The Inside (Garaged) With Condensation So Spending The Extra Should Be Well ,Worth It In The Long Run, At Least I Hope It Is But It Sure Looks Nice.
