Smashing in doubles is usually a lot stronger because the shot is set up for the smasher so that he can concentrate on just raw power and placement without the need to move too much. Lin Dan and Taufik Hidayat can hit extremely hard from difficult positions with great placement. Placement is more important in singles because there is more space for the opponent to cover. I would pick Lin Dan though.

Cai yun was really outclassed by Setiawan in the 2008 Olympics Finals, he has since improved considerably, and him and Fu Haifeng has both become much more complete players. 2009-2012 was their dynasty, H2H only Jung and Lee have an edge over them, but Fu and Cai really brought home the big ones, and like Tommos said, no other player really comes close.
4 WCs and 1 Olympics from this pair. The achievements tell the reason why they are the best pair of their era or perhaps of all time. Of course any one can lose. Just one big lost doesn't define their quality.
fuhaifeng o.O what you think lin dan is good like crazy for smash but because hes a single player not a double he had to be good in evrything not just the smash, fu haifeng in other case is a god of smash, so your question is not very good, and for anwser in single player lindan got the best (not the fastess but the best angle and power overall) in double the best is fu haifeng by miles he got the angle and the power you can watch evrybody fu haifeng got the best in evry aspect of the smash
