One thing you can try is putting Carian Retaliation (or Golden Parry) on a medium shield. It gives you a more lenient parry window (shortest start up and longest active parry frames) while also giving you the opportunity to block regularly. It's still tricky, but that helped me. It's also worth mentioning that Carian Retaliation only consumes FP when parrying a spell. In other words it won't consume FP when parrying "regular" attacks.
I just beat them on my first play through by using great shield soldiers spirit ash to dstract the sword and shield guy and then using lightning on my sword and quick step ash of war. It still took me quite a few attempts but thats how I did it.
Thanks for producing and posting this. Been trying these 2 for hours, despite what past cheese videos accomplished with Rotten Breath, it does not appear to work on them anymore. At least not as simply as it used to. My Mimic Tear and I got over 4 shots of Rotten Breath on the spearman, and it tic'd twice for 152 dmg then stopped. I've emptied 3 fp pools of Rotten Breath on them and never saw it tic more than twice. Poison on the other hand is very effective. I stay alive much longer going with a light armor load, one cannot run fast enough to get distance using a medium armor load. After realizing the Rotten Breath strategy has either been patched out, or I am extremely unlucky, I decided to try parrying them tomorrow when I go after them again. It was fortunate that this was the video I watched before logging off for the day. Tomorrow it's parry or bust, and fortunately I picked up the Golden Parry Ashes of War earlier today.
My good sir, I spent an agonizing hour just getting wrecked by these two… just mercilessly destroyed…. Obliterated. Annihilated. Shredded to bits. But I think I can figure them out now. Will report back with progress LOL (I’m a newbie to these kinds of games so a lot to still learn…. But it’s fun).
Update: they still beat my ass 😂, however, I was able to figure out the parry on gatefront soldiers and even managed to defeat a crucible knight in Nokron.... And when I did, I was entirely too happy about it lol.
Just managed to kill them tonight in my second playtrough, never run into them in my first and holy molly that small little hint that "Always look for the hand when parrying not the weapon helped me tremendously thank you so much! It still took me around 4-5 hour to beat just because I basically learned how to parry with these two! Amazing guide! PS : I became power hungry going around looking for what can be parried :D!
Oh man, you're in for a new addiction adventure. Once you get a taste of being able to consistently parry, you want to parry EVERYTHING. Good job on getting through the fight, glad my video was able to help out.

Parrying is impossible due to my mandatory Guts playthrough. This fight was such a pain especially since I was underleveled asf. Great tutorial though. Impatience definitely killed me more times than was necessary
I used a similar strategy, parry and riposte the spear guy in 1st phase. Then used the great shield summon as meat shield against ordovis when spear guy go to 2nd phase.
i managed to beat them by focusing on the shield knight and distracting the other using black knife tiche spirit summon. one of the most diffcult fights for me
I spent some time practicing specifically on the crucible knight at the evergaol in Limgrave. You can do it too, just start a new character as bandit and head there. There's a site of grace not too far off so you can repeat the fight over and over again. Just make sure to not actually kill the crucible knight so you can continue practicing if you want to. Another tip, parry that hand animations, not the weapon animations. You'll see a lot more success that way once you get that flow.
When you say the hand animation what is it you’re looking for? I think you said look for when the hand begins to move forward towards you? Is that right?
Few words can describe how annoying Ordovis is in this fight I try to focus on the spear guy but blimin hell Ordovis never got taught peace and quiet. I’m not a parry person personally and I can get the spear guy down to phase two by using the ash of war (I could go in but I don’t think I am getting a hit) which has cost me flasks lately so if there’s a way to deal with phase 1 of the spear guy more easily I would be happy. I then wait for the dive as you said but Ordovis is just a pain to hit for me I can dodge them but I have trouble finding openings against him.
I swear their parry window is either really easy or non-existent. The bugs are insane in this game too like the skeleton damaging you after getting in the arena
I managed to beat them without summons im not a parry fan so i rely on dodging i killed ordovis first its all about keeping distance and killing one as fast as possible.
Please tell me what sword you used I’m doing a grim reaper play through using scythes and they’re not as fast as those swords and I think they would help me a lot during this fight.
what level is your character and your gear? really great fight btw, but it seems like you are just doing such little damage even with the riposte. Im currently doing a playthrough where im trying to get the ordovis sword as quickly as i can, based on my skill level, so right now i am only level 43 and i have two talisman slots. Im using a level 12 cold battle axe, buckler, the talisman that gives health on riposte and radagons soreseal. Even as underleveled as I am, I can do about 450 damage with my ripostes and i use the basic same strat as you do in this video. i have done about 40 attempts so far and got so close two different times but i choked on both. lol i have grown to really love this fight and crucible knights in general
parry is too much risk, looks like you just posted this to look cool "look i can parry ordovis look how im good at parrying". Majority of players cant parry shit, me included. Not a good video to kill these guys
few enemy at once is nonsense. it's pure luck to survive, has nothing to do with the skill. especially when the enemy has enormous reach and 2-3 following really strong attack. the only way to succeed is to cheeting. whole point of the game is ruined! and the way to boss?? why I have to deal with annoying enemy on the way? atleast the ways aren't 1-3 min far away like by Bloodborne. ps: I can't block 😔 and I don't want to practice 1h for each enemy, every enemy has different pattern. PPS: don't want spend hours on collect items for crafting only for 1x try. Bloodborne was better in that way, every boss had a weakness and you had enough items (fire...).

Sorry, Josh. But these two are a pain. I can't find perry to save my life. I hate all Crucible knights. But I do better with the spear knight.
That's why I show how to take them on without parrying as well, I know not everyone is comfortable with it. Hopefully it helps.
@@theJOSHfeed After 5 attempts, I took them down with some pots. Not looking forward to it during the 2nd playthrough.
