Not only is Ruud a brilliant scientist, he’s also an exceptional entertainer, and he makes the information memorable and interesting. Some of the simulations may be a bit corny or tongue in cheek, but they serve as useful breaks which helps the viewer retain the information. I’m a big fan. Highly recommended for children especially!
This guy is a real one is the documentary community. I admire the tests he put himself through to contrast humans and our resilience. Great documentary
Agree!! My RUclips was set to automatically go to whatever next video was in order, so when it came on I went to pick something else 'cause I hate creepy, crawly things (spine shiver, but within a couple minutes I was so engrossed in it ! The different huge insects from around the world & how he went casually (crazily) tromping through forests & jungles worldwide to find live specimens, with nothing on to protect himself but a cap, shirt & shorts was wild ! I would've been in a metal hazmat suit myself. All the host's obvious fascination & delight in these gross huge bugs & the detailed info & interesting little experiments his team thought up for him to do (that usually involved him torturing himself just a tad) made this a great show I thought. I was happily surprised by it being so great & that served as a reminder to oOOld me that learning new things is always good for your brain & overall knowledge, and to not prejudge anything, give new things & ideas a chance.
I was Blown away on how open & willing you were to take that bullet any sting!!! I’ve seen others do it before & they cowered but you just took it with a smile. That’s balls of steel
I definitely wouldn't be keen on the idea of handling the majority of these creatures bare handed, but I've been fascinated with bugs my whole life. Amazing creatures, whether big or small. I absolutely loved this documentary, kept me enthralled for the entire hour and a half!
Ruud, you are crazy allowing bites, stings, and tasting bugs 🐛!!!!!! I have had many black windows on my hands. I live in the Southwest USA and was placing my hands in dark damp places. I always felt for their energy and only a couple of times I did not put my hand in . Spider would crawl onto my hand and climb right. It’s all about how cool or calm can one be. Thanks 😊
Black windows: I know what you meant. Btw, you don't have to rewrite the comment or anything, but you can edit out the "n", and voila! You've got it. Just be sure if you do to save it, so it stays. Still, I love it.
If I had seen this guy as a child I would not have a fear for roaches and bugs like lots of people. Hope he does it for children now, taking fear out of their lives.
I'll be looking for more from him. This guy shows everyone else how it should be done. Attenborough has his strengths, but....Oh, yeah, I am now subscribed.Bring it on.
I live in Northwest GA on a 55 acre farm for over 57 years. I have seen HUGE praying mantis there that are WAY larger than 8 inches long in the fall (before 1st frost). I don't know if these are a different type as the normal sized ones I usually see (4 to 5 inches) or not. There are many unmowed fields for quail shooting in our area. Several times we have driven our pickup truck thru these fields and mantis will fly and land in the bed. My husband was sitting on the tailgate after loading his snotgun once, leaning back on one arm as he talked. From the other end of the bed the largest mantis I have ever seen came walking towards us as we sat talking before the hunt. His two brothers were standing at the side and saw it was heading towards my husbands arm. We three slowly moved away and didn't warn Jimmy as he sat there bragging about he was going to get more birds than us. The gigantic mantis slowly made his way up the sleeve of his hunting jacket until it was almost to his shoulder. They both saw each other face to face as Jimmy turned his head and screamed! As he jumped up, it took off. It's wings made a very loud sound as it flew away. I had no tape measure but its body was almost as long as Jimmy's upper arm. It sat there looking him in the face as it's head came over his shoulder and the other end at it's widest point was at least an inch wide. Jimmy was nearly 6 ft tall. This is a true story and one of my favorite memories! ✌️❤️
This guy is insane!!! I wouldn't want to be his camera man for any amount of money. Truly he is very dedicated to his profession, so big up to him and Thanks for a very informative video. I hate bugs, especially spiders, which are my worst phobia. I am also surprised we didn't see the Japanese hornets on this video, would have also liked to see the Parktown Prawns, although not dangerous, they do try to attack you if you seek them out and bother them. I have fought one off with a broom before, horrible things like mutant cockroaches on steroids.
Rudd has to travel to these areas and physically find these bugs by handling them. There’s no way you can do that with the Japanese hornet let alone get near it without it attacking you.
The things we do for our passions, putting a stink bug in my mouth isn't on the list or the Bombardier Beetle! Thanks for "taking one for the team" while teaching us all about bugs.
Preying Mantis are my favourite insect . When I was at school I used to keep mantis as a pet in my garden plants and used to feed them Spiders and Grasshoppers. I miss those days because right now where I live there aren't any mantis here.😥😥
Oh I love them! I'll never forget what happened on my 30th birthday back in 1994. My mother and I got back to her house after I baught a new stereo, and to our shock and surprise, one had come in and was panicked when we opened the door. Just then, it struck my forehead with its antenna, and I don't know who was more surprised; me or it. After placing a plate of the only thing we had to encourage it to come to us which were some breadcrumbs, we gently picked up the plate while it was on them and slowly carried it outside so as not to scare it. It only ate a couple of the crumbs, but it kept coming back to the kitchen windowcill as if it were thanking us. Soon after that, it remained in our backyard the rest of the fall season and enjoyed an abundance of buggs thereafter. It knew we meant all the best for it, and Mom called me the bug whisperer after that for some time.

Ruud what a cushty bloke, so funny and his timing is sharp as a top comedian ,I hope to see more he's li in e steve Erwin for bugs so watchable,,😂😂😂😂😂😂,
It's really great to see someone taking an interest in Entomology and enjoying the experience as well. However the section related to Spider's is inaccurate. The Sydney funnel web is actually 3rd in the league for the most venomous spider in the world. The Brazilian wandering spider is by far top of said league. Nevertheless This was a Fantastic Documentary and very entertaining. Much Appreciated.
I always thought to myself, when God was creating the world at some point the vegetation was all in place and it all looked beautiful and then he realized that in order to make it all work together, he needd little helpers to do certain jobs and!!!! Along came the insects!!! And boy did he design them perfectly. !!!! They are amazing and each designed perfectly for their purpose. !!! TY Sir,,fascinating video. !!! 😎✌✝💕
I’d feel more comfortable being locked in a room with a known serial killer than with a person as enthusiastic about bugs as this guy. Let alone someone willing to physically handle a centipede, instead of instantly calling in an air strike and quarantining the area.

So cool I love your enthusiasm . I love praying mantis they truly amazing. I also caught a Hercules Beatle in Missouri. I fed it fruit and stuff for a while
God dam dude! I’ve watched hundreds of hrs of documentaries & never laughed so much while watching anyone. Sir* David attenbourgh is the king! But he don’t make me laugh the way you do lol. Congrats chief. Good job!
Now this bloke is the whispering entomologist. I’ve learnt more about bugs from this than any other bug show. If you want pain from an ant, try a Australian jumping ant or a n inch ant. They are extremely painful and can cause anaphylaxis. Thanks. 👍🏻🇦🇺😁
