- All Christie Sides has to make the case for Caitlin Clark as ROTY is boring words like "competitive." It's embarrassing. Let's talk about it.
I caught this too. She's so awkward whenever she is forced to say something positive about CC.
Because she can´t coach caitlin clark, they are only winning if she lets her playing point guard and run her own "CC- System". This coach has no idea and not the intelligence to bring anything to the table, she is just there to hype the players up...
Sides is under pressure not to promote CC for ROY. Notice how she turns it to our players.

I was so disgusted when I initially saw this video. It reinforced my belief that she's not very bright at all .
"She'll always be my rookie of the year." is something you say when you know someone isn't going to get something, but you want to make them feel better and make it seem as though you are supporting them.
I read it as "I'm obligated to publicly support my player even if I don't think she deserves it."

Look. This is quite simple. Frankly, I'm tired of having to say it. Sides is the worst coach I have ever seen on multiple levels. I could go on for hours, days even, and I would need much more space. She is pathetic. From her in game adjustments, to her rotations, to how she handles her players on and especially off the court. I would bet if you asked the 12 players on this team maybe, maybe 3 would want to keep her as their coach.
Something tells me she wasn't onboard with drafting Caitlin Clark.. One time she was asked what she found out about CC that she didn't expect. She said CC has strong legs.. That was random..

Yes! I remember Sides saying that about CC's legs. It was so freakin' weird. I was like...she's the most prolific scorer in NCAA history and all you can compliment her on his her muscles?
Coach’s compliments were like my middle school coaches were when I tried sooooo hard but still barely made second string
… I try to stay away from Coach slighting and weird conspiracy/sabotage takes on things … … But Coach was sooooo awkward in her answer, it made me feel sad for CC … and especially after her close relationship with her previous coach …and Especially when AR’s people can barely contain themselves in talking about AR deserving the ROTY …. I mean it’s basically a tie and her own coach and even team (as much as I like them all) got practically nothing to say … …. Thank god for AB!!! She’s socially aware and kind.

What is wrong with her? Does she not have any media training or savvy? This is coaching malpractice.
Honestly like she said the most generic case ever. She could have been talking about anyone. She gave no reasons why CC has competitive advantages over the other rookies, and to say she is my rookie of the year every day felt very forced and not genuine.
She's downplaying her mistake... she wasn't suppose to allow Clark to get a triple-double. There's no spooning with Coach Witherspoon any time soon.
No kidding, Spoon won't be hugging and whispering to her after the next game

She has the same type of answer for ANY question presented to her...but it really shows when it comes to CC. It is like pulling teeth. She could be chewing on a LEMON and enjoy herself more!

A tiny positive in her comment was that CC's teammates are starting to handle her passes better, kind or defending against the turnover rap. Other than that, she seemed to be making the case for a participation trophy.
What has Dunn contributed? Crickets and silence. Sides is doing what she’s been told.
Quite frankly, Caitlin or, I dont know, her Nike rep, should prep Sides with some talking points, so that SOMEONE in a position of authority might actually offer substantive props to Caitlin.

I think Sides feels like she was stuck with Caitlin. I think she would have preferred if Bueckers came out. If you look at this team it was built better for Bueckers. Bueckers has basically a mid range game. She can shoot threes but it is not much of her game. Whatever Sides issue is with CC, CC is trying to work with her.
In my opinion, you are on the money in your suggestion. Sides continues to be CC’s biggest opponent.
Sides mentions CC's attitude but not her incredible skill set. Sides makes it about team first. I get that. Caitlin Clark is not just one of the girls!

I was just glad that CC shared the love by snugging up to Sides when she was all wet in the locker room celebration. And CC didn't even draw a technical foul for it.

When I heard this I couldn’t believe how she equivocated. I’m sure Weatherspoon doesn’t hold back like that with Reese who she pushes for it and even leaves her in to make sure she gets her double doubles even if it might impact another player. When your rookie player does something no other rookie has ever done before and a lot more besides you should go all in for her.
Yeah, the Sky is literally hurting their own team to get Angel her 'stats.' Cardoso, a much better player than Angel, is really suffering because of it. She sat so Angel could get her numbers against the Storm and the Storm came back and beat them.
If Coach Sides admitted CC is great she'd have to admit she sux 🎯🤯🤫😎

It seems like they just go out of their way not to praise CC and not to promote her at all. There is a reverse racism I have seen with her and Angel Reese fans.

She is such a worthless excuse for a coach, let alone any sort of ambassador. She's more of an adversary than supporter; more antagonist than leader! What did we expect? She was unaware that CC's triple-double was the first ever by a rookie in the W, only thinking it was the first in franchise history. (Maybe not a huge deal, but she just got a ton of shit for pulling CC out of the game a week before, preventing this accomplishment!) She should've been prepared for this ROTY question!

I watched this earlier and I didn't think she was trying to make the case for CC being ROTY. I thought she was giving her usual after-game blah-blah and then just threw that ROY comment is because someone told her that she had never publicly said she thought her own player should be ROTY. A lot to say. Firstly, rip on Sides anytime it is deserved which is a helluva lot from where I sit. My theory has always been that she does not want CC. One, she probably saw her as not really coachable in the sense that she needed to conform to her system. CC IS THE SYSTEM, and I think she heard from Lin Dunn.

Did you know Caitlin's background in college was marketing?That's why she's so polished.She's took classes.I'm sure if you looked at her transcripts.There's probably stuff in there about interviewing, talking to media ect. Plus, her breaking records, two college basketball finals, gave her plenty of media experience.

Christie Sides was handed the "golden goose" and sadly she is clueless in how to best coach Caitlin Clark and the team. It's also pathetic that Sides has this boring and unlikable personality, along with her poor communication skills, to be able to properly educate and promote to the media and fans, this generational talent that has changed the landscape of women's basketball like never seen before.
Well, Lin Dunn is personally responsible for hiring Christie Sides.

@@thewire19 I agree with you that Dunn made a bad choice in hiring Sides. I get Dunn was a long time successful head coach in college and the WNBA. However being a good head coach doesn't mean you will be a successful GM. Herb Simon needs to fire both Sides and Dunn, if he ever wants to get the full greatness from CC and the Fever team.
