  • In this video, we are going to take a look at this stunning example of the Northern Marine 78 long-range explorer yacht!
    This is the sort of long-range trawler-style explorer yacht that you imagine beating through big seas thousands of miles away from the nearest land.

    Good looking boat. But as a former submariner who's spent a lot of time in the north Atlantic regions in winter and loved the ride's when we came up for coms . Its hard to think of doing a crossing with only one engine in a plastic boat

      I agree. Even a center console fishing boat should have at least twin outboards if it's going off shore and not just puttering around Flats and harbors. Gotta have a spare to get home in case one dies.

      The biggest boats in the world have one engine. Reason being they are more efficient. This particular Cummins has legendary reliability. However, as a chickenshit I agree with you.

      These were exactly my thoughts.. Single engine does not go along well with the concept of long ranger explorer boat.

    • @Frog13799
      @Frog13799 10 месяцев назад +5

      Most single engine vessels have either a wing engine or a hydraulic motor connected to the main shaft powered by the generator. P.S. most large commercial ships have one engine

    Great value for a NM 78 that would allow for a total interior refit and electronics. As long as she has good bones, the rest is cosmetic. Thanks Eric!

    Beautiful boat! Love that look. I guess it would be considered an explorer style with the bridge design. The range of the boats is amazing the trade-off is usually speed. I can only dream.

    I love the seating forward to the Portuguese bridge (always like to see this), how about crew accommodation ? A big addition would be a hydraulic swim platform and or ladder to allow us oldies to be able to easily get in and out of the water.

    I've seen this yacht before and I love the paint scheme, it almost gives it a Coast Guard look and could ward away bad elements.

      Several FN SCAR 17 7.62x51 rifles can ward off bad elements too. Order hidden compartments made to store the rifles plus 15 magazines per rifle and 4 or 5 thousand rounds of armor piercing full metal jacket.

A little ship like this is a dream maker for people who are not supper wealthy...but have every right to want and have a chance at an explorers life! Another great passage making boat....and another excellent video from Yacht Buoy :)
    I have a question regarding fuel burn on these long range explorer yachts.
    If you were to own one of these you could make those super long voyages but the majority of voyages would be much shorter.
    Using this yacht as an example, it has a range in excess of 4000nm at it's cruising speed of 8.5 kts and has total fuel capacity of 17,725 litres.
    So my question is, how much fuel would it burn per hour at 8.5kts in same conditions when holding 5K litres of fuel vs when tanks full at 17.725K litres?
    I am asking because I have watched some video's where I see the boat filled to capacity to avoid making top's along the way, at places they had planned to stop at, to avoid higher fuel prices.
    My thinking is that it will end up more expensive because of the higher fuel burn at full fuel capacity.
    I have no experience in long range power voyages so would love to hear if I am on the money :) :)

    • @DronePhotography-yh5kr
      @DronePhotography-yh5kr Год назад +1

      I believe that you would be right, but the fuel burn is not going to be much higher. We are talking an extra quarter liter an hour or so. So it will be much cheaper to just take the extra quarter liter an hour of fuel burn rather than refuel for an extra 2.50 a gallon at an island.

    I don’t have a boat of any kind, but I do like looking at the explorer trawlers. They may not be like the larger luxury motor yachts, but they are like Ninjas of the seas, they may look ordinary, but once you look inside, it is a completely different experience.
    One question; does this vessel have a water osmosis machine to convert sea water into drinking water and water to wash clothes?

The interior which as you say is customisable looked very strange, like an 1800's American colonial house....even the pilot house didn't look easy on the eye. But the price is staggeringly low....It is quite an odd vessel...the outside looked better than the inside somehow. Also the engine instruments were in the engine room? If they aren't duplicated in the pilot house then that is very odd.
