- In this video, we are going to take a look at this stunning example of the Northern Marine 78 long-range explorer yacht!
This is the sort of long-range trawler-style explorer yacht that you imagine beating through big seas thousands of miles away from the nearest land.

Good looking boat. But as a former submariner who's spent a lot of time in the north Atlantic regions in winter and loved the ride's when we came up for coms . Its hard to think of doing a crossing with only one engine in a plastic boat
Nice to meet another shipmate 🙌⚓️🫡
I agree. Even a center console fishing boat should have at least twin outboards if it's going off shore and not just puttering around Flats and harbors. Gotta have a spare to get home in case one dies.
The biggest boats in the world have one engine. Reason being they are more efficient. This particular Cummins has legendary reliability. However, as a chickenshit I agree with you.
These were exactly my thoughts.. Single engine does not go along well with the concept of long ranger explorer boat.
Most single engine vessels have either a wing engine or a hydraulic motor connected to the main shaft powered by the generator. P.S. most large commercial ships have one engine
Great value for a NM 78 that would allow for a total interior refit and electronics. As long as she has good bones, the rest is cosmetic. Thanks Eric!
The interior is horrendous.
This is not a weekend play boat. It is a home. Nice.
The salon layout is perfect. Very livable
Beautiful boat! Love that look. I guess it would be considered an explorer style with the bridge design. The range of the boats is amazing the trade-off is usually speed. I can only dream.
I love the seating forward to the Portuguese bridge (always like to see this), how about crew accommodation ? A big addition would be a hydraulic swim platform and or ladder to allow us oldies to be able to easily get in and out of the water.
I love this trawler just the way it is. Its got the type of traditional class I could live with. Wish I could have seen more of 😅the layout and simple amenities.
I've seen this yacht before and I love the paint scheme, it almost gives it a Coast Guard look and could ward away bad elements.
Several FN SCAR 17 7.62x51 rifles can ward off bad elements too. Order hidden compartments made to store the rifles plus 15 magazines per rifle and 4 or 5 thousand rounds of armor piercing full metal jacket.
I was thinking the same when I saw the stripes on the bow
Great looking vessel - the accommodation looks very comfortable.
it is very comfortable
Actually I really like this..Not because it's fancy but because it's practical. A little ship like this is a dream maker for people who are not supper wealthy...but have every right to want and have a chance at an explorers life! Pluse there is no Teak to be found...to me looks great for. A little while ...then your going to have to have it refinished!!
Not super wealthy? How much you think that configuration and rigging is? 😂
I really like the interior. I prefer the dark wood and furniture.
‘Little ship’? I assume you are a captain on an oiltanker
Love the high bow reeks confidence.
This is the kind of vessel I'd like to purchase and fully renovate it, for the right price. A true deep ocean explorer for any season. Nice review, mate.
Thanks! 🫡🙌
Honestly, I couldn't get behind long range exploring with just one engine.
Beautiful boat, love it. Yes I would travel the world on this awesome machine. Thanks for sharing 🌊🌊🌊
Thanks for watching 🙌
She could use a refit but check out the new 57 they just completed a year or so ago it shows how nice there interiors can be. They are definitely well made and should be taken more seriously as a ocean going vessel
Beautiful
Stunning!
🙌
Though I am not sure about the GRP construction (maybe aluminum would be better - if someone could tell me yes or no to that), I love the way this yacht looks inside and out. As long as it has lots of storage space for food and freezer space. This is for me.
Стеклопластика очень хорошо 🔥🔥🔥🔥и всё!
Конечно лучше Алюминиевая
Lovely interior ❤️
Would like to see all the models of trawlers that you have! The first one you is a beauty, but would like to see the others if you could show them! Thank you for showing that one, I'm sure they are all of top notch trawlers! Thanks again!
Portuguese Bridge, Radar set up and the Cummins marine engine. Prefer a Caterpillar engine but Cummins is an outstanding engine.
I love how your favorite places on board are Engineering space & Pilot House. For me the guest cabins/ masters are basically the same on all the vessels you show off. The engines and pilot House are always different. Very unique. Just my Humble opinion.
🙌
Good video. I like this yacht, love the pilot house. I can see past the decor to see the bones and scantlings to appreciate this vessel.
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment :-)
Merci pour cette belle présentation, pour moi un peu trop rapide surtout sur la salle des machines.
Mais si j'avais l'argent pour acheter un super trawler, je choisirais sans doute celui ci
Wow ,that's very nice.
It sure is!
She.d be great in the Southern Ocean
Great boat, thanks for the great job as usual.
Thanks 🙌 I appreciate it 👍
Thanks 🙌 I appreciate it 👍
Northern Marine build awesome yachts. Could you please see if you can tour an Elling yacht? Preferably the 60. Thank you so much. 👍👍
The working areas kitchen ,engine room and pilot house are always good to c ....and yes u can always change the decor .All in all not a bad looking girl
A lovely boat!
Like it and your video. I would be somewhat concerned about piracy. Would need an able crew and a Ma Deuce heavy machine gun mount with several thousand rounds of tracers mixed with explosive rounds. Also, a few MANPADs. Beyond that, other amenities that a man would find helpful.
Beautiful boat thanks 👍
It really is!
A go-anywhere beast of a boat! How could you not feel confident on her?
Thank you for showing off this super yacht. Have one question ❓❓❓❓❓. Why is BELL on upper Deck by outdoor grill/ main mast. Can anyone tell me why that location was picked.
WOW so cheap. 1.4 million euros. Nice boat. just have to keep on working for one.
Thanks for showing us all, and the work you are doing.
Another great passage making boat....and another excellent video from Yacht Buoy :)
I have a question regarding fuel burn on these long range explorer yachts.
If you were to own one of these you could make those super long voyages but the majority of voyages would be much shorter.
Using this yacht as an example, it has a range in excess of 4000nm at it's cruising speed of 8.5 kts and has total fuel capacity of 17,725 litres.
So my question is, how much fuel would it burn per hour at 8.5kts in same conditions when holding 5K litres of fuel vs when tanks full at 17.725K litres?
I am asking because I have watched some video's where I see the boat filled to capacity to avoid making top's along the way, at places they had planned to stop at, to avoid higher fuel prices.
My thinking is that it will end up more expensive because of the higher fuel burn at full fuel capacity.
I have no experience in long range power voyages so would love to hear if I am on the money :) :)
I believe that you would be right, but the fuel burn is not going to be much higher. We are talking an extra quarter liter an hour or so. So it will be much cheaper to just take the extra quarter liter an hour of fuel burn rather than refuel for an extra 2.50 a gallon at an island.
Impressive
My favorite feature would be the 5" main gun and the twin .50s
I would be happy as a bug in a rug to have this boat!❤
Great price , great boat
Thanks from İstanbul
Thanks for watching 🇹🇷
i liked this boat so much i brought 4 of them .
🛥️🛥️🛥️🛥️🫡
I don’t have a boat of any kind, but I do like looking at the explorer trawlers. They may not be like the larger luxury motor yachts, but they are like Ninjas of the seas, they may look ordinary, but once you look inside, it is a completely different experience.
One question; does this vessel have a water osmosis machine to convert sea water into drinking water and water to wash clothes?
Wouldn't be the single engine an issue for you on long distance routes?
The only negative is that it has only one engine.
Dude, I was expecting a walk through. I could have gone to their web site to see this. Nice Yacht would have been cool to see it "live"
This was published in my ‘early days’ before I had the chance to jump on board some 🛥️
Been watching a few of your vids today, thank you @@YachtBuoy
Thanks for watching them! I appreciate it ;-)
Since I watched this I have watched a few of your other vids and I like what you show us. Thank you and sorry for being a Richard @@YachtBuoy
No worries :-)
Lekker man lekker 🇿🇦
🙌
Question: If the owner was to hire a crew for this yacht, how many crew members would be needed and their positions. Automatic hire would be a skipper/captain and chef but who else would be needed for a long range crew?
Viewers Questions: Crew On An Explorer Yacht #boat #liveaboard
Personally I love the decor
Only the one engine, I would be a lot happier if there was a wing engine
Secondary engine is Cummins Pony engine for hydraulics with chaindrive homersystem
Love the boat. Just a thought, maybe mention the generator(s), water maker, fuel scrubbers, etc etc
1.5 million euros = $1,501,987.13 USD. Exceptional buy for a yacht of this caliber.
🏴☠
Can't deny it's a handsome boat. Probably out of my price range though, unfortunately...
Nice little ship, interior is a little fuddy-duddy to say the least. Would come out and a refit. Otherwise yes like the blue flashes very reminiscent of a fishing boat.
That Portuguese bridge allows for somebody to safely clean the windows during adverse weather.
Beautiful… definitely not a 2 person vessel
I'd give the interior a c+ at best.
Reminds me of home and garden 70s decor.
he problem with most yachts is
the design makes them pirate-
friendly for boarding purposes.
The US Navy no longer is on-
call to suppress world piracy .
Tem pouco de expedição científica e casa da vovó. 😊
Love this yacht. I would change the décor to fit my taste and eliminate the fly bridge and fit solar panels above the wheel house instead. I have no need for a fly bridge and would rather get creative on the boat deck for outside dining - perhaps tow the tender behind the yacht if I wanted to host a party.
Nice😊. Is the ship self righting ?
Negative 🙌
I'm sorry how much? is that right at 1.4 million euro? if it is... thats a deal to me, I was seeing center council yachts around the 40' range for 1.4 million. you get WAY more out of this than a center council. this would be a happy life for me to explore the oceans. all I get to explore is the great lakes that surround my state.
She is perfect...can be my retirement home in the Grenadines.
Zero speed stabilisers?
GRP ??
👍✌️
pourquoi l'intérieur de ces trawler est toujours aussi kitch ? n'y aurait-il que des clients américains pour ce type de bateau ?
Nice vessel, but I would be nervous to go trans ocean with only one engine even with that range
Agree 100percent! A back up small engine is a must!
Rather than having a small wing engine like nordhavn. They are set up to engage one of the generators to the propeller shaft as a backup.
@@rwech In that case damage to the propeller shaft is your chokepoint. I'd still see wing engine as more reliable option. Or maybe even economical, as for small crawling you do not have to run the big one.
The range
Fantastic looking hull but the interior outfitting?
Looks Like something from the 1970's
Be great to get this hull Into nordhavns hands for outfitting, then you would have something really stunning not lack luster
2.3 billion powerball, gonna need a bigger boat!
2.3 billion?! Meanwhile, the Euromillions jacket pot tonight it 14 million lol
Why are they painted like the Coast Guard?
I guess it would have been too difficult to tell us what GRP is?
Anyone tell me why they need 3 radars ?
I think it’s just for redundancy.
Yeah but proper working ships that use radar constantly get along with just two.
extremely capable boat. but the interior would have to be totally redone.
OMG 12 knots?, it would take you forever to get anywhere!.
No pony motor?
What do you do if your ONE engine dies?
Paddle?
It's about the size of four double-decker buses and about as pretty, maybe a bit less so.
It looks like a ship not a yacht.....solid, but not very homely. The interior which as you say is customisable looked very strange, like an 1800's American colonial house....even the pilot house didn't look easy on the eye. But the price is staggeringly low....It is quite an odd vessel...the outside looked better than the inside somehow. Also the engine instruments were in the engine room? If they aren't duplicated in the pilot house then that is very odd.
Too high up for the heavy seas
i am not overly fond of the dark woodwork and the single small engine. for an explorer yacht it would take you forever to get where your going. Its just too slow.
Funny, yacht buoy only wants to know boats for sail in Scotland, Wales and England. Somehow Ireland is too far yet it’s only a short boat ride away.
I go wherever the boats are (Spain, Croatia, Netherlands in the last four weeks) whether they are for sale or not 🫡
👍👍🥸
That is where the thieves brought my boat, sad, sad. But I'm still alive. One of them is not. This is why no one will come forward with their crime. Yes, I miss it terribly.
It’s a great boat however it feels very dated inside
Love the exterior looks, disappointed by the non-steel construction and interior craftsmanship.
I love wood for interiors but that wood is too shiny.
Thats a yacht
Te retractable mast makes no difference… every bridge will have to open
You know I'm a fan of yours but would you really take the most precious things in your life (family) out in open ocean in a plastic boat ?
What Boomer designed that interior?!?
The Salon and galley are top notch. The rest, dreadful.
Had my interest until i heard grp . Imo grp has no place among workd class explorer and expedition yachts , jmo , just saying
Actual trawlers build in this style and commissioned for use in the northern oceans are all steel hull builds. Building this style of boat in GRP is completely meaningless to me.
God awfull mix of styles and colour on the interior. Good bones though. 600hp is wasted, would probably cruise ok with less than 200hp.
It looks like an old Victorian house. No good.
Good God , it looks top heavy and would blow over in a puff of wind.
Yes nice, but Endurance is not a luky name in sea history .
too damn slow
