Personally, I think that what happened in the supposed socialist countries had failed because they were NOT based on REAL TRUE socialism! In other words, they had failed to follow the principles of Marxism-Leninism when they implemented, unfortunately, certain things that nearly ruined their countries' economies and societies. I think Karl Marx would have been already appalled at the way things had turned out in the 20th Century and beyond.
