I'm so proud of everyone involved in this show. And the Briarwood arc is perfect for Season 1. I started listening to Critical Role starting in Campaign 1 Episode 1, and the Briarwood arc is when s--t gets real. Now I have only 6 episodes left of C1. 10000% worth watching/listening to! This show has so many great in-jokes, genuine heart and soul, incredible music, and the characters are spot on (as I would expect them to be). Long live Vox Machina!
You have probably heard this from others, but Season 1 and 2 are both going to be from Campaign 1. The Mighty Nein wont come into play for a while. I'm guessing they can do at least 3-5 seasons on Campaign 1 alone and then start a spin off series, "The Legend of the Mighty Nein."
Other things you may find fun :The belt 'Simon' has an eyepatch cos he's a one eyed trouser snake lol. In the live show Vax was not only unconscious but fails 2 death saving throws due to the 2/3 attacks Silas was unloading on him, if he had got that 3rd one in Vax would have been dead, and if it was a huge attack = perma-death ( we all thought he would die, he does this amazing pre death monologue I was in tears)
If you want a good title for this episode as well, this is a great example of Percival's nickname "No-Mercy-Percy". Taliesin has some mythical way of critting and doing massive amounts of damage and being SCARY, then action surging and doing it ALL over again. *Edit* I just realized I'm dumb and that's the name of the thumbnail picture of the video......
Nat 20 Sharpshooter feat, no disadvantage on long range if it’s within the range stated in the book (I believe it was 320ft), can forgo advantage to add a +10 to an attack roll Bad news (his big gun) rolls at least a D10 per shot but could only fire twice before reloading (which was a bonus action for him, as part of his gunslinger class, is now a feat anyone can take called “Firearm proficiency”) He got a new small gun called animus at one point (D8 per shot) and then he got a relic (the vestige) that let him absorb a number of spell slots (i.e a lvl 5 spell gave 4 or 5 slots) and he could then add those slots for an extra chunk of damage (it was like 3D8 per level at least) 4 shots per normal attack Action surge gives 4 more attacks and one more bonus action (another reload) With all that (and his “golden snitch” dice; sadly now lost to us) he could do upwards of 120 damage per turn Dude could rival and surpass Grog and Vax in damage
Hey guys, at 8min mark when the belt turned in to a snake, that’s actually a belt vax had in the campaign that had the ability to change to a snake (magical items are the shit) mat does such a good job with the items in his universe. Anyways I enjoy your content a bunch!! I love how dnd and critical role just bring people together.
Mechanically, I assume Grog IS raging during these fights, but “I would like to rage” is reformatted as a power-up for the show (although I suspect it will map onto the moments when he went reckless in the campaign lol). I also DO like that they include it as a power-up catch phrase so viewers who go on to play D&D might carry it with them into their games - as you said, you’ve gotta declare your rage somehow!
It's funny you mention Gargoyles, I'm rewatching it right now and would love a remake. Though the gun safety episode would definitely feel different now haha
The Briarwood's appearances are pulled directly from Travis and Laura's cosplay on a Halloween Episode of the live-stream. They nailed it so well they literally defined the visual look of the couple, better than Matt ever had.
Scanlon's improv lyrics was always a highlight in the streams, but I LOVE that they really honor that hilarious vibe. I also love his humor being in full glory. I'm sure at some point in the show he is going to lay a turd in some poor sap's bed.

7:29 The only reason they won't do it would be that Disney owns Gargoyles. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are a Nickelodeon property and therefore are owned by ViacomCBS. Unfortunately, it's not likely they'll ever cross over. A Gargoyles revival would be amazing though, and actually wouldn't be that surprising right now. Gargoyles owes it's existence to the success of shows like X-Men and Batman: The Animated Series. It was Disney's effort to make a dark early to mid 90s kids series that could compete. Both of those other shows are about to be brought back. X-Men '97 is coming to Disney+ and is supposedly just going to pick up the story and keep going. And the same team that did Batman: The Animated Series is coming back to do Batman: Caped Crusader for HBO Max.

Beowulf: "I am ripper... tearer... slasher... gouger!... I am the teeth in the darkness! THE TALONS IN THE NIGHT!"
Percy: "I am Percival Friedrickstein Von Mussel Klosowski de Rolo III....."
_kk-chk!_
"....at your service."
*KPOOOM!*
Oh Adam, when you say "it's one of those kinds of swords", you have no **idea**
Jay: "Season 2. It's complete, comprehensive. It captures the D&D experience."
Did anyone else notice Orthax in Percy's shadow on the 'your soul is fortfeit' scene ?
I know this was in episode 2, but all of the references to the Mighty Nein in Gilmore’s Glorious Goods made me squeal in excitement!
Nat 20
Sharpshooter feat, no disadvantage on long range if it’s within the range stated in the book (I believe it was 320ft), can forgo advantage to add a +10 to an attack roll
Bad news (his big gun) rolls at least a D10 per shot but could only fire twice before reloading (which was a bonus action for him, as part of his gunslinger class, is now a feat anyone can take called “Firearm proficiency”)
He got a new small gun called animus at one point (D8 per shot)
and then he got a relic (the vestige) that let him absorb a number of spell slots (i.e a lvl 5 spell gave 4 or 5 slots) and he could then add those slots for an extra chunk of damage (it was like 3D8 per level at least)
4 shots per normal attack
Action surge gives 4 more attacks and one more bonus action (another reload)
With all that (and his “golden snitch” dice; sadly now lost to us) he could do upwards of 120 damage per turn
Dude could rival and surpass Grog and Vax in damage
Next of the pReview'd mechandise list: The Legend of Vox Machina -- tee shirt; face of Scanlan; with the heading of: "Something's slappin'..."
Glad somebody remembers Gargoyles. Loved that show!!!
i love "No mercy" Percy!
That’s not minor illusion - that’s Simon. Simon is a magic snake friend that turns into a belt. He doesn’t come up much, but we love Simon.
I just noticed but Jay's Blue Ranger cap is god tier
Going to be interesting how thus runs out, as this about when Pike got pulled away to star in Blindspot and was still dialing in at 4am.
It's funny you mention Gargoyles, I'm rewatching it right now and would love a remake. Though the gun safety episode would definitely feel different now haha
Jay - you *have* to give Adam "The Shrug" he gave you during the "Wheel of Time" ;)
The Briarwood's appearances are pulled directly from Travis and Laura's cosplay on a Halloween Episode of the live-stream.
"That's only for wolfmen!" (12:37)
That did not get past me, and I love it!
RIP Brent Chalem
Y’all’s reactions to no mercy Percy and the line that lives with me forever of “your soul is forfeit” made this for me can’t wait for the next episode Is it Friday yet?
These were some of the most intense moments in the original campaign and the Briarwood arc is like THE fan-favourite arc
It's rare to see the exact moment someone falls in love: Adam's face @13:44
Simon is no illusion he a multitalented belt.
Sam Riegel surprised the team with the songs he performed, he'd just show up and perform them and everyone would die.
I agree with the opening title, especially how the animation flows from scene to scene. I'm very sure someone along the way was taking inspiration.
Percy is a fun and cool character. No Mercy Percy is fucking terrifying.
I’ve been going around singing the board head smack chant, seriously stuck in my head, “The legends of vooox maaachiiinnnaaaa”😂😂😂. We should come up with a board head smack chant for the church of the Oxford comma also 😂
Literally every time I'm in my car I'm listening to critical role catching up on old episodes lol
It's feels guardians of the galaxy team. Grog cross between Drax and Homer Simpson.
That’s the Percy we know and love
The Briarwood Arc is the best part
Fyi: in the game percy gained the moniker 'No Mercy Percy'!
It's nice to hear Grey do a voice so similar to Azula's
Wolfman's got nards!!!
"No Mercy Percy!!!"is coming!!
I do know what you are in for, and you are in for a ride...In the first 3 ep I have seen tight ins for 3 count them three arcs from season 1 of CR. Now about that mask HAHAHAHAHAA!
I hope someday we get to see Taryon Darrington
Maybe in an hypothetical 3rd season... I'm guessing the 2nd season will be the beginning of the Chroma Conclave arc.
I love CR. And I love you guys. This is such a joy to watch.
I honestly do not remember the plague mask in the streaming show. But what it represents is DEFINITELY a familiar theme in Percival... and so rewarding!
He definitely had the mask in the stream
