    The Heroic Chronicle is such a godsend for me, I'm not good with coming up with backstories in a vacuum, so having all this information as a launching pad is so helpful.

    I agree, this system would be great to adapt for your own settings as well as for using it in a Wildemount campaign.

    Even if the parents are dead, I don't see any reason not to roll, for past relationships.
    It's not like once someone is dead your previous memories of them get wiped from existence. Build a past for the character and have their relation with their dead parents be a potential driving force, or at least let it have some form of impact on the character, not to mention you rolled, that 1 parent left, could it be that the parent was assumed to be dead, but never confirmed dead?

    • @mduckernz
      @mduckernz 4 года назад +6

      Yeah, the only reason to not is if you were literally a from-birth orphan (father left, mother died in childbirth?) or they both died shortly after so you have no memories of them at all

      @@valasafantastic1055 I genuinly don't have enough lore knowledge, nor do I want to take time away from studying, to read up, on the entire sword coast, and regional cuisine ++.
      I'll probably dedicate a bit of time to compare the xanathar's section with the heroic chronicle and make a combined system, best of both worlds kinda thing for a template, but more than that would have to wait until uni is over.

    Heroic chronicle not only helps the players in the character creation, but also gives the DM a huge crutch, because he can personalize the story so much that the characters feel and enjoy the sessions better - this is a real win-win situation!

    I would give every player a fateful moment, and also make it to where everyone can only get 1. This way everyone gets to have a cool thing in their backstory. Plus we play heroes on a basic narrative level, and every heroes journey has some call to adventure, or faithful moment.

    Ghosts, portals to afterlife, magic jar. No siblings, Adoption!, or organization type siblings. The dead can't be helpful ally, you find their graves and receive needed item, that which seems impossible just needs some imagination to make it happen, it doesn't even require magic to be a source.

    How do people have 2 to 4 hour sessions? My sessions go for 6 to 12 hours and my players barely get anything done. Dont get me wrong, Both me and they love it or we wouldnt be playing for 12 hrs, but I just dont understan how anyone would get anything done in a 2 hour session. To be fair it could be that my players are a bit on the Newer side so combat can get slow if they need to look up a spell, etc. But its not often and its not so bad that it feel like it stopped the game
