Buddhism isn't a religion. It's a philosophy, a school of thought and behavior. And this is the reason that it's the most effective, humane, pure, and productive system in the world.

I’m an alcoholic woman about to turn 37 . I’ve been going through cycles of alcoholism and recovery for the last 15 years . Also from San Diego! :) I struggle with stopping doing bad, in regards to ingesting intoxicants, I come from a long line of alcoholics. I lost my mother and step father both to the disease this last year. The last week I’ve really been exploring your videos, the plum village ap , and a lot of different dharma talks. I’m trying different things That I’ve known about for years but was resistant to. I feel awkward attempting to chant my way through the days minuscule moments, but better after. I don’t know if it feels sustainable, but I haven’t been thinking about alcohol , I haven’t been drinking and I absolutely feel the merit of filling my day with purposeful better deeds. I have found your videos so helpful. I would really appreciate it if you would explore specific sutras and mantras. Their linguistic meanings, their practical application, different interpretations… I appreciate your teaching style and your sense of humor. Thank you for doing this.

I don't know of anyone who is living the life I am living. All my friends are married with children, have homes of their own, careers, and I am living with my parents helping to take care of them. I love what I am doing. I meditate throughout the day because I don't want to forget God. I also meditate because sometimes I am doing a lot and I need to decompress. I wouldn't change my life though. I am glad to be on this path.

you are mentally pushed to follow a cultural path that is destructive to nature, to other living beings, to your true self and to other human beings who are kind of yr work slaves(in China, Bangladesh or or Mexico...) You are doing fine(don't let these imprinted thoughts make you believe otherwise)You are an example more people should be encouraged to fall(ego is a fake concept which will never make you happy and is causing lots of suffering to other living being and nature(pollution from air travel or car travel or transport from far away countries,) Buy second or third hand and share as much as possible(things, knowledge...)

I live close to the city and most of my friends live there, still wondering when I will move to the city as well. But they don't know what it's like to have a job that doesn't provide a decent living, they don't know what it's like to have a mother that can't live from her paycheck, nor do they want to know. They either forget or try to forget me, only desiring to fill their lives with good times and happy trails and try to persuade me with stupid arguments that they only try to argue about because it provides a reason for them to feel better about my situation. Their words keep expressing false hope, something in the line of pulling bootstraps like Americans would say.
That's fine. Some of my friends help me in small ways, and I'm very grateful for that. It's their way to express their concern for me to be happy. But I won't be happy if I leave my mother behind, not being able to take care of herself, not after everything she has done for me and still does for me. If I could, I'd buy her a house, but I'm sure she'll be happy that I will go to college again, pay it for myself this time, and when I graduate and get a decent job, I can help her pay rent and keep the place clean. This is my way and I won't bend to the frills of metropolitan fashion.

Dear lu edch. All you can do is love. If a child is toxic or dangerous you may wish to distance yourself from them. (You can still love them without being in their space.) If you wish to see more of them, then maybe as a pensioner you have more time to make contact with them? The working generations have a lot of stress on their time these days (a very different situation from even a generation ago).... Don’t expect anything from them, just give the time and energy you want, TO them... and see what happens. :)

Thank you so much. I really connect with the Buddha. I am Catholic, when I was a kid all I ever learned was "God loves you and he wants you to love other people" I used to think. how can the message be so simplistic? It's kind of weird, but The Buddha has helped me strengthen my faith in Jesus. Peace and Joy to you.

This is another deep video...I got to a place where I felt vulnerable, as though I needed to cry. I'm not sure yet but I have to figure it out. I am still in changing, I think that will always be happening. I'm still working on my patience...

I think trusting in ourselves and our feeling, is one of the hardest things to do, at least for me personally. There seems to be a lot of logic/thinking and fear that often contradicts our truth.
This video is very helpful, very true about looking within and about being kind and gentle and patient with the self.. thank you!! 😊🙏

I have started listening and watching these for the past few days now, ever since I started having family issues involving my children where my relative won't give them back to me. So whilst awaiting the law and family court to happen, I need peace to learn within at this time to prevent from breaking, flipping out at my relatives because I miss my 5 year old and 2 year sons. Anyway In meantime my I enjoy these pearls of wisdom to absorb apply into my life now as a mum of my 8 week old who's home with me, I live in the now without thinking ahead of the negativity my children will return. Thank You My Friend. Ever so grateful for these inspiring videos

Twenty years ago I was seeing a therapist for adjustment disorder caused by moving to a new town where I didn't know anyone and my current family and friends stopped reach out; calling or visiting. I remember telling my therapist that I feel suffocated in my own body and that I just want to fly but something is preventing me to do so....(myself???) He told me that, that was my lot to bear and I needed to except it. So, I basically gave up. Still no friends, family doesn't visit, stopped running, doing HITT training, lifting and I'm 70lbs over weight. Thanks for sharing your wisdom and your spirit with others. I pray that it blesses others

Dear Nick, I am a writer and the first video I watched of you, you were sitting on a valley full of yellow flowers. I wrote a poem in spanish about it. (I hope my translation is not that bad) Sending you Thank you and love from Chile, Maríapaz
    Stay in your own garden
    said the monk
    sitting in his own one
    it was a valley
    full of yellow flowers
    Macondo was
    his home.
    He didn´t always know it,
    no he did not.
    Before he knew
    he was a yellow flower
he took a walk through the city
    smiling to people
    asking himself
    why he didn´t fit in.
    He tried to be kinder
    he learned interesting conversations
    maybe a social butterfly
    He also tried
    to smile a bit more.
    Until one day,
    he realized the obvious:
    a yellow flower
    could not grow
in the middle of so much noise.
    Stay in your garden
    said the monk
    and I, a gold thimble
    dancing in the wind
    of a very tall building
    just sighed.
Its time for me to find
    my own garden.
