this is such a great video! I am learning Braille even though I used large print. I want to learn Braille because I want to teach it to little children that are blind or visually impaired and in case my glaucoma progresses. My saying is Braille is a weapon when glaucoma attacks my vision. I believe Braille is literacy and I want to share it with little ones who cannot see and get them into the love of reading. I'm glad I learned Braille for a backup. I personally love Braille!
Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed the video. I think this is an important topic that a lot of people don't even think about! I agree Braille is literacy and I love that you want to help others learn Braille. Do you have a plan for that? I have considered doing it myself but I am not sure how to go about it. Thanks again for your thoughtful comment!
Where are these large print books available? I'm not visually impaired, but I might one day buy some to donate to a care home, so even residents with sight problems can have access to reading material!
That is a great question! I love that is something you are thinking about. I personally almost always borrow them from the blind library in my state so I haven't done purchasing of them. I know Amazon has some but not a ton if you just search for large print books.
Great video. I’m almost 50 years old and I have been visually impaired like you. Do you know about BARD(Braille Audio Reading Download)? You are certainly eligible for the service. National library service for the blind and print disabled is part of the Library of Congress.
I do know about BARD and used to use it more during school It is a great service that people should use if they qualify. Thanks for sharing that would have been super nice to hear about if.I didn't know about it. Maybe someone else will benefit from your comment!
Have you ever heard of Moon Type or New York Point? I am so curious about the other tactile writing systems the were also on the scene for a little bit. Cool Video!
ADVICE NEEDED: Thank you so much for this video! Would you (or anyone here in the comments) happen to know what to do with books you can't get a large print of? I have some older books I need to read if I want to go to college but the print is waaaay too small. I can't make it five pages without a headache. It was printed a while ago so there's no large print, audiobook, e-book, etc. ways of reading it. I tried bringing it to Staples and asking them to print it page-by-page, blowing it up larger but they said they can't do that because of some kind of copyright rule. I'm at my wits end. Please, if anyone knows how to fix this I really need the help. The best I've got is to ask other people to read to me but it's not sustainable. Thank you all in advance!
as a low vision graphic designer, i was wondering how you got around the issues in programs like photoshop, where you, or at least i, constantly lose the curser/brush on the screen/canvas. also, when it comes to the minus within the apps and tracking and reading those. i went through school for 3d animation, but since a recent dip in vision, i havent picked up these programs in ages, and when i have tried them out, it frustrated me to no end, how low i had gotten and how hard it was to read the controlls and track the brush and find the manipulater handles. any tips for a desperate artist? thanks.
@toonEzon thanks for reaching out. For me, it has taken some time to figure out what works for me. I use the zoom on my Macbook (option + command + plus/minus) a lot to navigate around the screen. I also have dual monitors for video editing that makes things larger and i can see more at one time. I have a couple of videos that you might find helpful. The first one is explaining Accessibility settings for the Macbook Pro. ruclips.net/video/S03YdByFHMc/видео.html and then you might be interested in seeing my desk setup. ruclips.net/video/jpKTOOgyGv0/видео.html I have a couple other similar ones coming up you might find helpful as well. I hope that helps.
@@VIDesigner I do, actually! In fact, in early 2020, I started learning braille music. I read uncontracted braille mostly, but I’ve slowly began to learn braille music. I play clarinet mostly and a bit of piano. I read clarinet and piano braille music, but it has not been easy. I’ve never really liked glasses because they’ve never felt right for me. Let me know how I can help with the braille music? Do you play any instruments?
I love to read audible books the reason is because I don't have to lose stress out my eyes I'm good next time and for reason that I like on me because every into the book to me cuz I feel like I do if I like to use my ass My eyes sometimes hurt if I use my eyes too much that's where I like the audible book do you like animal books

These are some really cool insights. I never thought about how people who are visually impaired would need to read using different methods or fonts.
Thank you for watching! I am so glad there are other ways to enjoy reading beyond the traditional book!
Well done Angela. This is good insight into how a VI person can access reading and literature. Many thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
That's quite informative. Thanks
You are welcome! Glad it was helpful! :)
As always appreciate your videos
Thank you so much! I am glad you enjoy them!
There's something called Bard you can use on your phone. :) It is through the library for the Blind. :)

I actually have not heard of them. I will have to do some research and see what I can find. It does sound interesting.

Hi
Hello! Thanks for stopping by!
Have you heard of braille music?
I have heard of it. I never learned it but I really want to learn how it works! Do you know braille music? It would be fun to research and learn!
