- Today we're headed to the town of Superior, located in the mountains east of Phoenix, where we'll explore one of the ecological marvels of the Sonoran Desert: Arnett Canyon, a place where a forest thrives nestled within volcanic rock walls.
Along the way, we'll talk about the history of Superior-- one of Arizona's most underrated outdoor recreation destinations-- as well as the Arizona National Scenic Trail (aka, the "AZT") and the "Leave No Trace" principles that all outdoorsmen should follow!
TRAIL INFORMATION: The Arnett Canyon Trail is an eight mile out-and-back trail, with roughly 550 ft. of cumulative elevation gain. Anyone capable of walking eight miles can do this trail. If you want to do the out and back, turn around once you reach the junction with the Telegraph Canyon Trail. Alternatively, you can use the Telegraph Canyon Trail to intersect with the Arizona Trail proper to make a longer full loop around Picketpost Mountain.

Thank you for watching! You’ve gotta check out Arnett Canyon sometime, it’s well worth the visit
Will is the content creator I prefer, laid back and just goes with the flow!
A laid back vibe is definitely what we’re going for and I’m glad we’re hitting that mark. Thank you for watching! 😄
11:03 do itttttt haha 😂 Will its funny how you talk with your hands, I'm dubbing you an honorary Italian
I feel honored! Thanks for watching Angelo.
Nothing better than hiking in the rain in Arizona… the smell
Agreed, desert rain is my favorite smell. Thank you for watching!
This is my favorite video you guys have done so far. The scenery, the music, the mood, it's all so cozy 🥰
The weather was mellow on the day we did this hike, and our talented videographer made editing choices to match. Thank you for watching!
I live in Superior and have walked this trail often. You can come in through the other end and it is stunningly beautiful too, especially when the cottonwoods are in full leaf. There are places where the water goes underground for the warmer parts of the year, but it pops back above ground in places. He is right - the variety of plant life here is amazing. I love this trail.
Arnett Canyon is really a stunning place; all the country around Superior is awesome and deserves more credit than it gets. Thank you for watching!
I have not heard of this trail! Cant wait to try it out!! I live in the Phoenix area so going to be an easy try! Love your editing style and can’t wait to see more!
Arnett Canyon’s a special spot. Great spot close by to beat the late spring heat, and see fall colors around Thanksgiving. Have fun exploring, and thank you for watching!
I love this video! My husband and I did Arnett Canyon recently and thought it was beautiful, especially this time of year. Thanks for sharing this video and capturing the beauty of Arizona! :)
Arnett Canyon is an amazing place! I’m glad you both enjoyed it. Thank you for watching!
Great watch, that hike is more pleasant than the goat path to the top!
Amen to that! Picketpost is one of the only Valley day hikes I can think of that’s tougher than Peak 5024. Thank you for watching!
Arnett Canyon is amazing! Another great video.
It really is, and I’m glad y’all got to experience it for yourselves. Thank you for watching!
New subscriber here. Very nice video, wish the ones I post had such quality. Looking forward to seeing more of your trips. Loved all of the information you included!
Thank you! I'm lucky to know a talented editor 😃 Just subscribed to your channel as well; I like the way you do your videos, your style gives a great feel for what being at a location is actually like. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your adventures too!
@@Wilderness-WillThank you!
Beautiful scenery. Thank you for the info
Arnett Canyon is an amazing place. Thank you for watching!
I have membership to The Arboretum and have spent many hours there but never done this trail, gonna put it on my list now :)
It’s an amazing place! It almost feels like a wild extension of the Arboretum. Thank you for watching!
Another great video! Love that you include info on how to get to the trailhead, as well as, trail distance and experience level.
Thank you for watching! I drive a 2WD hatchback so every time a route involves primitive roads, I always try to research beforehand to see if my car will make it. Trying to save others the hassle 😂
I HATE graffiti. I used to live in Kingman when I was a kid back in 66. There were a lot of canyons I would hike with springs way back in. This takes me back.
I agree. I wanna go back out there and clean it up sometime. Do you remember any of your favorite hikes in Kingman? I've been meaning to explore up there a little more!
Nice job. We did the Loop back in the Fall. Arnett Canyon was amazing. Especially since we didn't know it was there. We went counterclockwise and so we went through the desert areas first. Then dropped into telegraph and then into Arnett. It was amazing.
How long is the loop?
@daynamcgrady6625 it was about 8 miles for the whole loop. It's an amazing hike. We will be posting our video soon.
Sounds like you had a great time! The full loop is awesome, but I prefer doing Arnett Canyon as an out & back just because it nets you more time in the woods. Thank you for watching!
@@daynamcgrady6625 The full loop's a little over eight miles long; the terrain's a bit rougher on the south side of the canyon though. The Alltrails routes for both Arnett Canyon and the full Picketpost loop are in the description of this video!
Great video! We loved that trail. 🙌🏻
Thank you Connie! It’s definitely one of the coolest spots in AZ; thank you for watching!
I'll try that next week.
You won’t be disappointed! Thank you for watching!
The water you found was left by trail angels for the Arizona Trail through hikers. There is so little water along that section the angels help out.
Yeah, I see trail angel water left in the Tonto NF portions of the trail all the time! Have you thru hiked the AZT?
I haven’t thru hiked the Az trail but I have done many sections
Oh! I did Arnett Canyon on Sunday. Very nice hike thru a beautiful canyon. I have hike Picket Post but was unaware of this. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! canyon
@@brettbarr4811 Glad to hear you enjoyed it! It's best in late fall, around Thanksgiving when the cottonwoods are as gold as the aspens in Flagstaff. You'll have to check it out again!
👍and a subbie from a local.
Gila County’s one of the greatest places in our state! Thank you for watching.
This area is seriously one of the most beautiful and unique natural environments in the USA. It is such a shame it is managed so POORLY. It’s a tinderbox that’s waiting to blow up in fire again because red brome blankets the ground everywhere. It’s so sad
The Telegraph Fire really did a number on the land around Picketpost. Friends of Tonto does a lot of trash pickups and invasive species pulls- do you know if they’ve ever done any work over there?
Knuckle heads just have to trash something. Like you said....pick up your trash! Great trip though!
Pack it in, pack it out! Thank you for watching.
Cardinals aren't rare I see them quite often.
Where do you see them locally!? I only really see them often around the Superstitions in winter, and even then usually only in thickets near the Salt River.

Uh sir, I think you’re looking for a video about William and Robert Arnett, who previously owned the Yellow Cab taxi company in the Phoenix metropolitan area. This is a video about a place called Arnett Canyon in Superior, Arizona.
