    I love aguia's rimfire ammo. Their centerfire stuff is excellent too. Haven't had any issues with 22LR, .223 Rem, 9x19, or. 380 Auto.

    I bought 3 guns on the same day last year & proceeded to test them using 17 different ammos. Glock 44, S&W M&P22 full size (made in Germany by Walther), & Taurus TX22. Fired 8,188 rounds, documenting each failure. 2,400+ each thru the Glock and S&W, 3,200+ thru the Taurus. The Aguila performed well & was accurate in all, also in a pair of Ruger Mark IV's & a 10/22. I shoot 10,000+ rounds per year of .22LR so if a gun doesn't handle bulk ammo, I don't want it. Just bought another 1,000 rounds of Aguila @ Rural King for $13.99/250 with no limits.

      Same here I've been collecting .22LRs it seems, and always run a bunch of ammo types through them. From match type to bulk, I managed to get a great deal on Auto-Match and got 5k of it. But I seem to be getting the HV for my plinking and Sniper SubSonic for hunting. I guess I'll put the Auto Match For gifts.

    Pretty good ammo. Not quite in the reliability class of CCI Minimags/Velocitors/AR Tactical, but pretty close. If your guns aren't super finicky (like my Walther P22, or my 10/22 takedown with upgraded barrel and match chamber) then this is probably the best bang for your buck. And it's a lot easier to find than CCI MiniMags, Velocitors, or AR-Tactical.

    Your key comment was that certain firearms are finicky running certain brands of ammo. I found this to be the case with my Ruger Mk II and Aguila. I have had major issues with misfeeding where I couldn't shoot a full magazine without having to remove the magazine and clear the misfeed. I took the Ruger to my local gunsmith, and he assured me that I was cleaning it properly, so that wasn't the problem. He suggested that I use a different brand of ammo. I have had great success with CCI and Federal products with no issues. In the future, if I purchase any more Aguila, I will use it in my revolvers.

    Ever tested Norma TAC22? I make great groups out of multiple 22 rifles with it but it’s never occurred to me to do the dry patch cleaning test for comparison. I believe it’s the best 22lr on the market currently, it consistently performs even or very close to the much more expensive ELEY, Lapua, Federal Match etc but at $3.99 a box at PSA or $43 a brick of 500 at Norma’s web site with free shipping on orders over $49. My claim is based on the quality combined with the price. I definitely make slightly better groups with the premium ammo but at 20-35 cents a rd and scarce to boot, the Norma at 8-9 cents and readily available is my top pick. Hopefully you’ll integrate some TAC22 into a future test. It does have a lubricant coating that they claim reduces fouling. Best Regards from a new subscriber!

    • @Moondog2A
      @Moondog2A  2 года назад

      That test is coming up. Tac22 is like $6-$11 in my local area. A bit more than the Aguila. It says NORMA on the box but the headstamp on the Tac22s in my box are RWS which makes match grade 22 ammo.

    Hi, I just bought a S&W 63 revolver, and I tried to use my Aguilla Super Extra (I have a good stock of them, and they are ok with my Ruger 10/22 and my P22 walther) but they don't chamber, they are too fat (about 3 hundredths of a millimetre) ! I'm pretty sure Aguila's 22LR are within SAAMI spec. But there is some manufacturing variations. That's some tight tolerances on that 63?! Like you I've only shot it in a 10/22, P22, and an Advantage Arms 1911 conversion slide, all load it without issue. @aguilaammunition

    My recent bulk purchase of this brand was a complete disappointment. I had failure to extract with every thing I tried it in. The ammo has a tacky feeling on it. Maybe it’s a lube that has gone bad and thickened up. It shoots good if you take the time too wash each round with alcohol or acetone but that defeats the point of buying it because it was at an excellent price. Maybe the box ammo will not be like this, but I would advise steering clear of the bulk.

    I think AutoMatch is the best bulk ammo out there, except for maybe the Aguila Super Extra which can be had in bulk packs as well. Next step up on the accuracy ladder would be CCI Standard Velocity. My BEST group results have been with Wolf Match Extra (NOT Match Target, which I haven't tried), actually PRODUCED by Eley now, which has beat everything including all of the Eley, Lapua, and SK that I have tried INCLUDING two varieties of Tenex, though I HAVEN'T tried Lapua X-Act.
    Tell you what I'm NOT buying any time soon: Winchester Super-X. All of the recent-production I've had (say 2013 - present) has been GARBAGE... report all over the map, groups sizes DOUBLE or even TRIPLE of the next-worst. What's crazy is, I have some 30 year-old Super-X and it is STILL excellent ammo. In fact, the Aguila Super Extra is a CARBON-COPY of the OLD, GOOD Winchester Super-X, right down to the group-sizes. I found the Aguila (of which I found the Super Extra 40 gr at the stores) the least reliable. After many feed failures, and also inspecting unused (new) ammo, I found the cause: loose bullets. The feed failures were due to the bullet getting bent out of alignment with the case when the round was pressed against the feed ramp in a semi-auto handgun. The bullet would get bent upward as it got slammed against the feed ramp, and would snag on trying to get chambered. I had 1 to 2 failures per 10-round magazine, sometimes worse. I opened boxes of the Aguila 22LR, and I could flex the bullets because they were loose. Only 9 out of 50 were tight (no flex). I've shot around 1200 rounds of the Aguila, and many hundreds of other brands while recording failures during the range sessions, and the Aguila was the worst regarding reliability. When an Aguila round jammed, cycling the bolt resulting in losing 2 rounds: the bent round and the next feed round.
    All tested 22LR ammo was copper clad, and in the last test session 50 rounds were fired for each brand. Federal Champion 36 gr: 1 jammed. CCI Clean 40 gr: zero jams. Federal Punch 29 gr: 1 jammed. CCI Stinger 32 gr: 4 jammed (this will need retesting since the barrel was found loose from the frame). CCI Mini Mag 40 gr:1 jammed. Aguila Super Extra 40 gr: 8 jammed. For the test, Aguila happened to not cause as many failures that day. Previously I was running 1 to 2 feed failures per 10-round magazine (which results in losing another round to remove the jammed round, so 2 to 4 rounds per magazine). I also found the Aguila was the dirtiest ammo, with Federal Punch coming in 2nd. For least fouling and lowest feed failures, my 22LR likes CCI best.
    I'll be checking with the police or gun range if they'll let me safely dispose of the remaining 400 rounds of Aguila ammo that I still have. If I had a firearm that chambered the round straight into the barrel, I'd use it up that way. A loose bullet in the shell wouldn't be a problem if feed straight into the barrel, but a loose round can get bent when slammed into the feed ramp.

      Thanks for that deep insight. Check with your local LEO. Or just put it up as a freebee with your local shooting club, I'm sure somebody's rifle loves it. I hope you subscribe, I'll be redoing this test with some other rifles and ammo brands in the near future.

    Aguila is not great. I’m not sure I would say it’s even good. It’s waxed which is already not a good start, and I had cycling issues in my GSG-16. Never had such issues with CCI Mini Mag CPHP.
    Also, the reason you’re picking up more fouling with the dry patch than the wet patch is because when the patch is wet (with hopefully solvent, not lubricant) the coefficient of friction is much lower, thus, you’ll pick up less fouling. It’s ideal to have a warm barrel, run two solvent dipped patches through, wait a few minutes and then run a bronze cleaning brush, followed by dry patches til fouling is gone. Then follow that by a patch moistened with oil to lubricate your barrel.

      I used dry patches this time so you could see the differences between the brands more clearly on camera.

      I'm assuming people with compact pistols like a snub revolver intend it for CCW/self-defense primarily. Hollow Points are designed specifically to expand when used at close-range (though how much is debatable); it's practically the only reason to buy HP 22LR, though some hunters swear by them.
