- So here’s something I’ve had my eye on for quite some time but never pulled the trigger on. This is the Soul of Chogokin Spider-Man and Leopaldon set from Bandai. Look you get a lot in this set and a ton of playability. First off you get two types of Spider-Man figures two types of Spider-Machines not to mention a transforming battle base that turns into a robot packed with a ton of die cast metal. Seriously the Japanese Spider-Man series is one of my favorite series combining so many of my loves. I mean come on transforming robots, giant robots, and Spider-Man. Not to mention cheesy super sentai fighting, yeah I said it. This set was released back in 2006 but you can find it out there for roughly 120 to 160 bucks. If this is your jam I recommend it highly. This is a great set and worth the money.

Re-release for this just went up for pre-order. They dropped the static vinyl figure.. but now it comes with the full size Spider Bracelet, with lights and sound!

thanks to Ready Player One I'm now obsessed with Supaidaman. I was able to get this same figure for relatively cheap. I noticed that the prices are shooting way higher on this particular figure now. if you find one for under $200, you'll be lucky.

Why does a spider themed hero get a leopard themed mecha?
Because......JAPAN!!!!
Because the Toei's original idea\concept (in 70's) is RE-use the Leopardon Marveler like a mecha to Spiderman and the ''super sentai AVENGERS''! Leopardon will be a mecha to other heroes based in Marvel super heroes, like Captain America, Black Panther, Miss Marvel, Wonderman, etc. Because this, Toei named the mecha with a ''neutral name''... dont direct linked with ''Spider theme''. ''Leopardon'' name is based in a TANK from II World War.
But, yes... ''Avengers'' idea dont come true in Toei's super sentai formula and change the concept to ''Battle Fever J'' in final version. And the ''Spiderman & super sentai'' crossover never come true. Leopardon dont re-used never more like a ''Marvel\Toei 's Main Mecha''. But, in the Marvel Multiverse, Tokusatsu japanese Spiderman, and super sentais Battle Fever J and Sun Vulcan exist in a alternative reality: the Toei-Marvel universe.
Many years after this series, em 1985, Toei re-used some elements of ''Spiderman Tokusatsu'' and created your the fourth metal hero serie: ''Juspion''. The protagonist, Jaspion\Juspion have many concepts mixed from Gavan (the first Toei's metal hero) and Spiderman: acrobat fighter, some comedy sense, space battler, and a space-carrier\flying fortress transformer mecha named ''DAILEON'' (''Great or Giant LION'') to remember the ''LEOPARDON'' name. (Sorry my poor english. I am brazilian.)

It's always a rights issue or some company wants too much money for their character to appear in a movie.
It happened with Roger Rabbit OR we would have seen Tom & Jerry and probably Popeye in that movie...
Leopardon might make an appearance in the sequel to "Into the Spider-Verse" but that depends on Disney/Marvel higher-ups having a sense of humor and making a deal with Toei. Leopardon and the Japanese Spider-Man did appear in a Spider-Man limited series several years ago. That limited series inspired last year's Spider-Man animated movie.
The 1978 Spider-Man TV series isn't officially available on home video anymore because of the licensing deal Marvel made with Toei way back in the 1970s. To show the series on TV or sell it on home video, Toei has to renegotiate the license and pay a fee to Marvel. The original deal was that Toei could do whatever they wanted and sell any merchandise they wanted so long as they DIDN'T sell anything with Spider-Man's image on it; Spider-Man was solely Marvel's property. (Today, the rights for Spider-Man on film are split between Sony and Disney/Marvel. Sony has feature film rights to the Spider-characters and loaned the character out to Disney/Marvel for his appearances in the MCU movies. The TV and animation rights for Spider-Man belong to Disney/Marvel.)
The whole 1978 Spider-Man TV series has only been sold ONCE in Japan. They had a boxset release on DVD in 2005. It's long out of print and HORRENDOUSLY expensive now! 95% of the Spider-Man TV sets you see online, especially anything with English subtitles, is going to be a bootleg!
Leopardon is solely Toei's IP and they have sold him as a toy several times over the years including a release in the US in the early 1980s.
They have a loose definition of rights on this show. There are at least two places you can see the show online (archive.org and a YT Toei Spider-Man channel), in its entirety, and they haven't copy-struck it because I guess nobody at Toei or Marvel thinks it's gonna be re-released on home video and it's such a ridiculous show with generally low appeal to the majority of the population. Plan 9 from Outer Space is more popular and generally appreciated better than Supaidaman!

To be fair, the American Spider-Man comics had a storyline where they featured Spider-Man getting a "Spider-Mobile" as part of a publicity stunt!
The reality is that a toy company (MEGO? They made virtually all the American superhero action figures in the 1970s!!!) wanted to make an action vehicle for a Spider-Man action figure already on the market so they wrote the toy into the comic book series! (At least that's how I remember it -- I could be wrong.)
They did that ALL the time on the GI Joe animated series and Transformers in the 1980s.
The robot in Japanese Spider-Man was put there to sell toys to the kids, period. Spider-Man wasn't a huge thing in Japan even though Japan has PLENTY of its own superhero comics and animated series made WELL before the 1978 Japanese Spider-Man show.
Frankly, I think the Whomobile (The Alien) of Doctor Who is even more ridiculous than Leopardon or the Spider-Mobile and has held up even less well than the spider vehicles...
