My hubby and I are sitting on the deck listening to oldies but goodies... since we are home bound during the corona virus pandemic. Be safe and enjoy Slick Rick.
Admittedly i used to take amazing music like this for granted back in the day. The musicianship (horns, violins/synth, bass, back up vocals, etc ) and arrangement is out cold...and funky as shit.
@@rickyflora2544 ...and for those who can, it's difficult to earn a decent living- unless they use a computer to create some static sounding shit with a catchy "hook."

Really? I used to sneak in clubs since I was 14. I've always been a dancer. This song I was in Germany. I had the album and I took it to the club in downtown Franfurt had the DJ play it and went to work 💃🏾🕺🏾
Alot of people are not familiar with it. I had the album and I took downtown frankfurt Germany had the DJ play it. He trust my call but when he saw the immediate response it was over 💃🏾🕺🏾
I remember seeing Rick James singing this song on Soul Train, Rick was wearing red leather pants a gold jacket with one red shoe and the other a gold shoe with psychedelics socks and was pumping it up Party over here, Party over there.
This song gives me serious nostalgia but I don't know why. Like there's some memory I forgot linked to it or something. Definitely my favorite Rick James jam.

Read somewhere that RICK JAMES didn't like this album. MOTOWN wanted him to do a more commercial release. This song/album kinda grew on me over the years.

One my favorites by Rick James. Never gets airplay. Loved the music and lyrics. He at one time lived in the same projects at the same time when we were young in Buffalo New York. Perry Projects. Used to sit across the table from big nose Oscar Alston in the cafeteria at South Park High. Oscar went on to big things in the Stone City Band. Jackie Ruffin was such a sweetheart. Good to see people from the big nickel had some fame.

+mike 6270 Yeah..They used to play this sporadically back in the day, but once his Street Songs hit the next year (81), wasn't heard as much. Incidentally, this song sounds like it would fit right in the Street Songs rythym. I think he knew he had finally made it, hence this track.

Facts!! I was a Rick James addict! Jamming to his music as teenager and still rock with it now!
The only song Rick actually played the bass guitar on.
This should have been bigger hit.
The piano and horn are really awesome!
Bobby Brown knows what's up. Hitting this with a like.
Same chords as Love Ballad by LTD. Not that big of a hit.

Big time by rick james is my favorite song by rick james
Rick James maybe crazy and rebellious. But he had talent!
Most of what Rick James sings about is about certain things that happened in his life, just listen to his lyrics!!!
He made theme music to his life, it’s like a musical biography
✌️Plenty respect

Lyrics:
[Intro]
Do-do-do-do-do, Do-do-do-do-do-do
Big time
[Verse 1]
I wanted to be on a stage
Where bright lights shine on me
At Carnegie
I polished up my act
Knew the crowds would see I had the knack
And that's a fact
Glamour and fame
Wasn't much more than a crazy game
I had to play
And now I got my wish
I don't know if I can handle it
But I think I'm gonna win
[Chorus]
I'm in the big time, big time
And I know success is all mine, all mine
Big time, big time
Gonna have the best of time
Do-do-do-do-do, Do-do-do-do-do-do
Big time
Do-do-do-do-do, Do-do-do-do-do-do
Big time
[Verse 2]
So I made it there, and an agent handles my career
Star of the Year
Following the steps of the best
Of Broadway East and West
I passed the test
It's all too much
With the interviews, reviews and such
I'm very touched
And it blows my mind
All the autographs I have to sign
When there's so little time
[Chorus]
I'm in the big time, big time
And I know success is all mine, all mine
In the big time, big time
Gonna have the best of time
Do-do-do-do-do, Do-do-do-do-do-do
Big time
Do-do-do-do-do, Do-do-do-do-do-do
Big time
[Outro]
