Contemporary Marching Band - Grade 3-4
With its built in brass fanfare and driving pulse, this monster hit recorded by Lil Nas X & Jack Harlow was tailor-made for marching band.

Ill never forget the day our band director gave us this music. I will also never forget the day I played this in front of my school for halftime at a football game. My poor director had no idea what he had done until after football season lol.
Poor soul
I arrange for marching band and percussion and I can understand why the battery is so “simple” to a lot of people. On one hand, yes it’s really easy and can be a lot more exciting to people, but on the other hand, this specific arrangement is clearly going for an exact replica of what’s going on in the actual song it’s based off of. I do this a lot myself when arranging for marching band stand tunes, however I give the multiple options of “advanced percussion” battery and “song replica” battery. Most people shoot for the fun stuff but there are directors out there who have purchased the easier stuff because it sounds more tame for something like a stand tune.
All that summed up, this version is just the percussion in the song converted to drumline and I can appreciate what they did with it.
I like this comment a lot. It kinda explains how I feel about stuff. Good on you for writing both options. Keep doing what you do!
@@lucscott3631 thanks for the love man🙏🔥
I’m the same way with most of my arrangements
We played this for half of the football games until people from the stands complained about the song and its origins. Man those were some good times!
doubting this is true but what are the song’s ‘origins?’ lol
@@vexologist People watched the music video.
@@NTDEnder lol
Let me rephrase what I mean by “its origins:” I was referring to the official music video. Some parents were calling out the school band for playing something “inappropriate,” and the band director didn’t want to deal with any problems in his first year here and stopped playing it during games.
@@NTDEnder that's the parents problem if they watched the music video.
I love the notation for the tuba at 0:58
lol i play the sousa/tuba and during practice today i noticed that on my sheet music
Seems like the whole song
Its just not the tuba im a bari sax player and if u see at the beginning it shows the tuba/bari sax/etc with it
My band just arranged it ourselves, honestly the main issue i have with this one is the really boring drum line stuff and lack of bass
Our band did the same thing and I totally agree
yup same
this
Boring drumline stuff ?
Idk what you talking about, put on AirPods or the wired AirPods and you can hear everything
Imagine in 20 years they’re gonna be playing this at middle school classes
@@gabharri910 Thanks to science
already happening
My high school marching band played this and "Blinding Lights" during our Homecoming pep rally...the future is now
This is already happening where I am lmao (this exact arrangement)
we are doing this for the football game tmrw 💀
This reminds me when Industry baby was the big hit last July, just about everybody knew this song better than their marching show
nice my band director actually arranged an industry baby piece like this for us and we played it for our middle school showcase haha
I always like the bassline in this song, also i love doing the tuba part with my bass trombone, super fun!!
I love every time we play this in pep band, so simple, yet so fun.
I'm telling! We need this for pep band
My band is doing this song sometime this year, idk if it’s for a parade or just stand music at football games but either way I’m excited
0:58 is my favorite part because this arrangment needs more bass so the tubas being there makes that part good
Perc snare drum goin crazy with them rolls!
Solid, thanks for this arrangement!
Cool I wish we had this in like November for my marching band pep band
Sooo exited to play this in the stands
BD just gave us this music 😫!! he just made my senior year memorable
Been waiting for this!
Jay Bocook is the best!
I like how I got this in my recommendations right before summer band and I'll be getting my music tomorrow, this might be a sign, hopefully
Was it?
@@vrg_panther4268 nah it was September
This publisher puts out really good winds and brass scores.... but the percussion? So watered down and uninteresting, I don't understand why it's so beginner. Especially for a Grade 3-4, it could definitely be a lot more interesting.
First off a beginner can’t do this, second the rhythms aren’t hard.
@@Aduysvmncmkouyf You prove my point. This is a grade 3-4 piece, it's not for beginners. But the percussion parts are written for beginners, BECAUSE the rhythms aren't hard. The percussion parts need to match the wind parts in difficult, adding more rudiments and technical sections to challenge the players.
JAY BOCOOOOK. my wind ensemble played A Boy's Dream for LGPE & it was super fun
I want to play this when I do marching band
Cool!
I hope my school plays this for the upcoming season
*Very nice Song*
We played this in band last year! I do not miss marching in half time so we could make it work for parades lol
Woah ! This is so cool!
I'm playing this this year 😂
i am playing this in band
My school band is now playing this piece
I actually like it
Trombone power ✊️
YEA BABY
our band is collabing with another for a football game and playing this song so excited
The cringy freshman trumpet player in every band that learned this song in July be like.
This was my bass clarinetist 💀
We have a trumpeter like that but he’s a senior :/
This song is fire I play it in the stands and it is so hype
I love the tuba part
Bro the high school band that I’m in just started using this as a stands tune about a month ago
Bro what notation software do you use. Great Job
My band teacher said no to playing this, because when we suggested it, instead of clicking the link to this video that the trumpet section leader sent, he watched the music video 🤦♂️
Ayeeeeee! Lil Nas X
Cool
good drum lines
the cymbals part is actually so freaking fast, guess like im saying goodbye to my arms dude
I had this guy create a song just for my district honor band and it was good
Bruh I played this just yesterday and omg 😆
We got it in high school all ready
Lit
You guys really should do I Will Survive
I got called up for bass THIS MORNING, and we’re playing tmr so I need to speed sight read on spot bc I had to leave for class
TRUMPETS RULE!!!! (I'm a trumpet player)
how can i get the fix?
OMG
I love you Jay Bardoc, But now my neck hurts from the trombone high Gb. The rest of the band's loving it though. Or at least everyone not on the first trombone is loving it
Wow:
Can u add a bark sax part please
There's always a bari sax part for these songs. It's just a tuba part but written an octave higher
To day was my first day of marching band camp
The fact all y'all keep calling it watered down on the drums when it's supposed to be upbeat lmfao
WHEN I PLAY THE CYMBAL PART, MY ARMS AFTER ARE READY TO DIE
YES ITS SO FAST
@@bugdaboi our percussion director changed our part to match the rhythm of battery, just chokes
@@jasminemorales4149 I hope ours does that as well 😭
@@bugdaboi its better this way😭 it still sounds good
Cool! The recording sounds like a computer. Especially the drumline, sounds like virtual drumline.
It sounds nice but the drumline can do so much more than just eighth notes
I don’t care, as long as it’s not 16th or 32nd
There is a reason to having a drum line stack so close to the original
@@windlesstar103 yeah, I agree
is it wrong if i sing the lyrics while i play this
Y’all this slams
Sheesh
Lol our drum major tried to arrange this for us but it didn't work out in the end
Our band arranged it to only hornline and percussion and holy does it sound like if you were to get naked and only wear same skin colored underwear then blur it to make it look like you're completely naked.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
this had so much potential to be an awesome arrangement but tbh it's so disappointing. like what even is that ending?
My band director rehearsed this maybe 4 times but cut it, which is sad because the band would’ve gotten 500% more respect and hype during pep rallies
I remember…
W
Pov:band slander pt.1
I did this in my middle school
If I was 16 and the band popped this off during a game I’m rushing for 500 yards no question
I hate that the trumpet part is in a lower octave than the actual song :(
You could always just play it up - I did that for half my pep tunes last year.
If it was the original octave for the whole song then RIP trumpet lips
Sorry, you can do the its been a long, long time plis
Is it just me or the score isnt matching what the trumpets are playing at some points
I dont see any problems with the score. Maybe you're confused with the 8va part for the trumpet
The snares could sound way cooler with 16th notes
playing this at an official NBA game bruh
Those snares sound so wet
copy please 🥺
My arrangement tho 👀👀👀
yo blue knights no way bro aint no way
100
how the hell are the cymbal players supposed to play that
thats like impossible
Alternate cymbal players. one plays down beat, one plays upbeat. Not that hard 😐
@@alanguerra1687 For a high school marching band at 144 probably would be pretty rough. I'd just stick to holding for snares 💀
@@rockevo1.0 if its hard they just need to get good
landon literally hates me lol
i heard a band do this once with “i send her back to her boyfriend with my handprint in her ********, clap clap clap clap“ it was funny for some reason
Music doesnt match the score but still good
This is my fourth grade marching band song
A version for combined Choir, Band, & Strings would rock & I even arranged it for Accordion ensemble.
tri-city anyone
This sounds better then the real song
Yes
У нас війна в Україні але духовиків не забуваємо
Snare drummer who's playing this for our show way too fast to be enjoyable way too simple to enjoy the fast speed.
I never realized how repetitive it is
we did this in band this year and everyone hated it lmao. as a colour guard it was just annoying to come up with parade routines bc they had us marching at half pace
If you spell applesauce with a “B,” you can call it “bapplesauce.”
This. This is the comment.
@@lucscott3631 Glad you found it.
As a tuba player, my part did not satisfy me.
SO I LEARNED EVERY OTHER INSTRUMENT'S PARTS
I play bari and I hate playing this it sucks
