I can totally see ptcg pocket be a huge phenomenon , like when pogo released. Its not far off they'll release a tcg set based on pocket, like how they released a special set based on pogo
Seems like Pokémon’s version of Yugioh Speed Duel. To me this looks like an opportunity for Pokémon to try and reel in collectors to the player scene. Great video!
I find it funny that Pokemon will considering pushing people to playing as a profitable model for them. They could literally make Pokemon Pocket a dedicated collection app and it will make more money with less work involved. Pokemon as a brand has the fans, the following and the brand presence to create a fully digital collecting app. All they need to do is to lean into it. I get it as "playing" is still an aspect but IMHO, it's ok if it's secondary. In the case Pokemon go, the competitive "playing" aspect of their game is a very niche aspect of it. More people simply play the game to collect and have no interest in competitive play.
Having a 20 card deck in Pocket, is the same as in Yu-Gi-Oh Links. However, in that game you can choose to have any number of cards between 20 and 30. The lower your deck size, the better your odds of drawing the cards you need.
Totally agree, mate. I don't think there's much difference in the value of a card, whether it's digital or physical. If a limited edition piece of cardboard can have value, then a digital card with the same scarcity should hold just as much value, like a crypto card. I'm so hyped! Thanks for the video-keep them coming as you find out more!
I think you're mainly right, but one big difference is that when the servers for pocket eventually shut down, you lose your entire collection forever, so you can't treat it as an investment like certain physical cards.
@skum73 I see where you're coming from. I think for those who have invested in physical cards, the value of digital assets might not be as apparent. However, for someone like me, who has always loved TCG but never had the chance to invest, this digital relaunch is incredibly exciting. I’ve often felt that there was no point in starting because I hadn’t started earlier, but now I feel like I can fully participate. Personally, I find a lot of satisfaction in digital assets (maybe I’m just a bit different). In this case, if I'm collecting TCG pocket cards digitally and not collecting the physical ones, the digital version actually holds more value for me. I suppose it’s the same but reversed for those who prefer physical cards (or you could always do both). As for NFTs, they may not be a topic of discussion in your circle, but those who purchased them still own them and may have derived satisfaction from them. It’s similar to how, for the last 10 years, I could have said that no one plays Pokémon cards anymore-just because it wasn’t in my specific group or mainstream doesn’t mean others weren’t enjoying them. As with all things, a digital asset holds value to those who place value upon it. So, I both agree and disagree with your statement in different ways. Thanks for the comment!
I really hope they make it similar to Marvel Snap. Yes, Marvel Snap has A LOT of micro transactions but... the actual gameplay is freaking phenomenal. Each match never takes more than 3-5 minutes, there are only 12 cards per deck, and there are various unique and exciting archetypes to play. My guess is that this will be Nintendo's attempt at a soft reboot of the Pokemon TCG itself in an attempt to make it a more casual mobile experience for people of all ages to play, not just sweaty adults with $50,000 tournament PSA graded decks.
Totally agree. They'd be smart to model after SNAP. It really is an amazing game -- very SNAPPY (har har) gameplay but plenty of strategic depth, and the cosmetic treatments on cards look insane. My only big critique (and honestly why I quit) was just how greedy the monetization felt. Obviously Pocket needs to get its bag too, and maybe the vicious monetization is just a necessary evil, but I hope it can somehow feel less blatant than SNAP did to me.
i watched one of your videos 3 months ago and couldn’t find your channel again until this video came up on my recommended! good to see you’re posting again
yeah for sure. i think the only challenge would be replicating the appearance of some of the cards since they're essentially designed for the digital format. HOWEVER, i think it would be sweet if you could open some lotto card on pocket and then they send you a rare physical copy of it, or maybe even award a physical card for getting top 100 ladder or something. lots of cool ways they could incorporate real cards, though i'm not sure they'll want to go that route.
I'll probably buy the premium pass. It's $10 a month, and some resources say, this gives you 1 extra pack per day. (So 3 packs a day). Also premium pass exclusive challenges and rewards. Similar to Mario kart tour.
It's fascinating how many people assume something like this should be free, even though it doesn't make sense. I don't expect other video games to be free. I agree with you-$10 a month is a fair price for something that brings you joy and occupies your time.
i think the game will NOT be a flop since you get 2 FREE booster packs per day while you can NOT get free packs physically on stores since you have to buy packs with real money.
Code cards as currently found in booster packs won't be usable on Pocket. It seems like they want to keep this completely separate from the current TCG.
Digital pokemon cards? Um, I guess it seems like fun especially for kids, but if it costs money I'm out. If I'm gonna be spending money it'll be on the real thing.
The exclusive Pokemon only ards will the main draw. If those cards stay exclusive to the game then you'll be missing out. Keep in mind that they can do more with the diginal cards. The beautiful scenes are nice but they could do little games and speciality features associated with the cards. If rarity is a factor then even more so to be involved early on.
not really since people who dont play will pick it up for a week or two then drop only people already that play TCG will have to play it since live is trash
Yes and no. The game expects you to go out into the real world. Find a real life Pokemon booster pack at a shop like Target or Wall Mart. Then find the special code cards inside every pack. Then use those codes to redeem packs in PTCG Live. So technically your spending money on real packs, but you get the virtual packs as well.
Thank you for your comment. It has been selected as a prompt for my daily creative writing exercise: I understand and sympathize with the, "you will own nothing and be happy meme". Housing and cars are way too expensive, gotta just rent and lease. Music, software, etc. is never owned anymore. Everything is digitized and sold to us as a monthly subscription to maximize year-over-year profits for shareholders. But sometimes I think about it more deeply and arrive at the conclusion that ownership of anything is an illusion -- that anything we own is owned merely for the duration of the short lives we have on Earth. And it's often even shorter than that, as our interests ebb and flow throughout life. You can own "stuff," but eventually, as you grow old, you will realize that the only meaningful things are your experiences. I think Pocket will be around for a while, and I think its servers will do a fine job of hosting our sparkly little pixel-based Pokemon cards inside our phones. And I think, in a way, we WILL own them. But more importantly, we'll enjoy the experience. Namaste 😭

my wife tells me its not the size of the deck that matters, its how you use it that counts
😂

Right! I'm also particularly interested in the trading aspect as well. Thanks for stopping by!
Does this mean it's first edition, second edition, or unlimited?

There is a huge difference. Ever wonder why no one talks about nft's anymore.

Anything will be better than snaps $75 bundles I cannot wait for pocket
Great video!! As someone who’s only seen the photos/leaks and done zero reading or research, this was helpful
I'm confused how is this different than the app that's been available for years
i watched one of your videos 3 months ago and couldn’t find your channel again until this video came up on my recommended! good to see you’re posting again
haha thank you so much! I've been wildly inconsistent, but hoping Pocket will motivate me
If you can trade and or sell cards online i will consider playing it.
One step closer to TCG on Cyclizars
Wasn't expecting the Ian Robb jumpscare
Pokémon pocket comes out on my birthday
Omg how cool! Mine is 10/21 so pretty close too
My is the 30th too. Hope it's good. Tbh
Insightful video, but your glowing dome was too mesmerizing to pay attention.
lmaooo fr, it was painful watching it back. horrendous lighting and dome brighter than the sun.
Thanks for the coverage, was wondering about it
Yeah 100% you get it man, this is going to be huge :D
Thanks brotha! I know you get it too bc I've seen your videos! Hopefully we'll chat sometime. Cheers
@@pokemahan ahah thanks, yeah I hope so :D I also feel like I'ma TCG Pocket waiting room ahaha
@cardkeepertoby I think it’s inspired us both to make some videos again! 😆
Would be cool if you could get physical copies of the cards you open on Pocket
yeah for sure. i think the only challenge would be replicating the appearance of some of the cards since they're essentially designed for the digital format. So this is basically yugioh duel links but pokemon
Informative and entertaining, thanks. Genetic apex or not your vids are great:P
haha thanks Kristin! 😊

yeah for sure. lots of games have some kind of monthly pass and it's usually worth it

the symbols is looking like evolution rank
I could totally be wrong about the symbols, but we'll see!
Pokémon and gacha gambling at your fingertips? It’s gonna catch on for sure.
i think the game will NOT be a flop since you get 2 FREE booster packs per day while you can NOT get free packs physically on stores since you have to buy packs with real money.
Been hearing about it, wondering what it was. I have so many more questions now lol.
Haha we all do! Looking forward to getting more info soon since we’re apparently only like 2 months from release!
Why would you need hair when you got a face card
Anyonwme know if u can scan your code cards with this game?
Code cards as currently found in booster packs won't be usable on Pocket. It seems like they want to keep this completely separate from the current TCG.
@@pokemahan its a shame i have atleast 2000 unused ,thanks for letting me know ⚡️
@@azianzenzation oh wow, that’s a ton. You could also sell them if you don’t want to use them on PTCGL.
@@pokemahan il have a look ,thank you ⚡️
Since "trading" is in the name, can you actually trade cards with other players?
People are expecting there to be a trade function, though I’m not sure it’s actually confirmed yet.
Will this be released in physical form?
I sure hope so, that Sabrina card is fire!!!
I don’t expect these to be released in physical form. They want the cards to be exclusive to the app for a variety of reasons.
@@pokemahan yeah I didn't realise you said it was digital form until the end, shame though I think I'd love to see it released as a physical game
Will 151 be in this ?
No, all the sets on Pocket will be specific to Pocket. None of the sets we currently know will be on there!
Haw do you only have 45 liks Your suca good guy

Live does have micro transactions
No it doesn't, it has game currency but you can't spend irl money to the game itself.

Please don't be pay to win :(
I really don't think it will be! if anything it should be really cheap and easy to build good decks, and expensive to bling them out :D
sooo lame you will own nothing and like it hahhahahaha this is a scam

Yo this will be huge for Pokemon! I'm already pre-signed up for the app - add me as friend when it comes out man!
Awesome, will do! 🙏
