You're calling this a cashgrab as if the actual card game isn't literally the exact same thing just more in depth. People spend a lot collecting and making the best decks for competition, that's just the nature of any TCG in any form. Normal TCG has fixed luck and packets with real life monetary value, my point is this online version is controlled and more of a blind gamble in my opinion, but I do tend to agree !
Came here to say exactly this. In any TCG, people who buy the most packs get the best cards. It’s not like this is new because it’s the mobile game version.
Eh, I have to disagree with this. I haven't spent a single penny and I'm having a blast with events and PVP. I pulled Mewtwo EX, gold foil Venusaur EX, gold foil Gengar, two Charizard EX, Pikachu EX, Zapdos EX, Wigglytuff EX.... and not a single cent was lost from my bank account. I'm able to win against competitive decks in PVP using my Mewtwo deck or my Venusaur deck, neither of which are "meta" with the way I have it set up. This isn't a cash grab and it's not pay to win.

No, spending money is merely an option, it's not forced upon us, I've built a great deck using only the free currency and I haven't spent a dime, sure it's luck based but at this point what game isn't, RNG is in everything, it's still fun opening packs every 6 hours and sometimes opening more when you get the extra currency. There's literally an option to get the cards you want if you're luck is just disgustingly horrible, using it's seperate currency that you get by literally opening the packs, eventually when you open enough you'll either get it through the packs or save up enough for the specific card you want. I've only been playing for 2 weeks and I've gotten countless great cards without spending money.
@zacziggarot It really is a optional thing, if you can't fight the urge to spend money then thats just a you problem lmao, it's not like we're bombarded with ads on the homescreen showing off a "Special Beginner's Deck for only 9.99!!!" It's still tamed and low profile, you're not forced to buy these things, I'm happily spending my time doing other things like dueling and actually living a life before the packs go off cooldown, it's a game which you don't really have to take seriously, it's fun opening packs. It's practically the same as buying irl packs just without the absurb prices and shady dealings, besides it's a free game, you get free packs every 6 hours maybe even open like 4-5 a day if you do the quest and events, what do you expect, it's still tamed and not forced upon you thus it being optional is true, you can't expect everything to just be free and stuff, if you think this is bad then you don't know what's good, we're lucky to even have this grace period of the game being not as scummy as you say and actually playable and fun, meta is meta that's a duel problem, I'm only here to collect cool cards and display them. Think about it, how do you want them to make money? Ads? Isn't that annoying, this is the most passive way they can do it while benefiting our experience through the no forced purchases thingy, I've seen much more worse games with much more scummy tactics to get into your wallet.
