I love watching these videos. I always thought footage of lava fountains were shown in slow motion. I never realized how slowly they move in real life.
The fact that we are witnessing the formation of a new shield volcano, in real time at close-up is astonishing. Some scientists have reported as being amazed themselves at the progression. What a great time to be alive (worldly conditions aside).

At this rate of speed, where is the lava heading to in that valley? Hawaii (Big Island?) Lake is has been acting up too with earthquakes. I remembered seeing the Lake at the lowest level and now? It look to me the lava is working it's way up. But why now? I have a strong interest of what is going on "underground". Look at the Ring of Fire around the world........how many active volcanos are there? Crazy.

Your video footage is really impressive to look at, and enjoyable to watch. I'm curious though - when did you actually film it? It seems to me that this activity being shown happened about 2 - 3 weeks ago based on videos I'm seeing from other people, who are careful to say when they filmed it and are usually posting only 1 day afterwards.
Thanks. It was filmed around 00:30 on 28th of august on the side B very close to the actual volcano. Distance to the lava field cca 30m and distance to the volcano cca 250m. The fresh lava that you see, was filling the area in about 1h or less.

If the lava is still red hot so far away, why does it slow to a crawl compared to the rushing lava of the same color closer to the volcano ? Has it cooled that much, or changed its consistency?
