you can clearly see the ball sliding across his chest, LOOSE as he goes out of bounds, no catch. besides, the steelers put up 27, even if you grant him a td, the steelers still dominated by ten and win anyway

I became a Houston Oilers fan in 1979 the first year I followed the NFL as a 17 year old kid in Western Canada. One thing that stood out from this documentary was the respect that was displayed among the
Oilers fans, players as well as the opposing teams. This is heartwarming to see in light of the trash talking and chirping
that goes on today. If they had ruled the Mike Renfro play a catch Houston would’ve played the Rams in the Super Bowl and beat them handily!

I can’t believe there’s no comments on here. Earl Campbell the Oilers were great in the 70s. They could not get a pass the steel curtain. Houston had the best fans in the NFL.

@@tomgilpin8629 Yeah, but the reception the Houston fans gave their Oilers when they came home from losing the AFC Championship, 2 years in a row, was unequaled in all sports. Wade Wilson said a lot of the players and coaches were crying, because they lost but were still welcomed back as winners. Even as a kid Steelers fan, I have to say Houston fans were the most loyal and inspirational.

The greatest game I ever saw a DB play was Vernon Perry's playoff game vs the Chargers. He had 5 INTs including a pick 6 plus a blocked field goal in 2 playoff games - 5 quarters total. That's an entire season for most DBs.
Of course the Oilers finding a tell from Dan Fouts' foot position under center helped give them the run or pass play info.

i hated the Steelers with a passion. and i loved and respected them at the same time. you could always count on some good ol' smash mouth football when the Oilers and the Steelers played. but then again, the NFL is just a shell of what it was in these days. it may as well be the NFFL league, which is where it's heading.

Remember the non td call on Mike Renfro's Play and til this day one of the most horrible calls in football. It was clearly a touchdown-both feet hit the endzone before stumbling out of bounds.

the ball is sliding loose across his chest as he goes out of bounds, no complete possession, no catch. and even if you give him the catch, the steelers still scored 27, so you lose by ten, not thirteen. deal with it.

Definitely better than the Steelers that year (dare I say best team in the league), and the refs had to cheat to get their beloved Pittsburgh in. Oilers should have had a SB ring. Refs most certainly do influence the outcome of a matchup they want, I don't care what anyone says.

@@charismatic9904 I grew up a Steelers fan as a kid, and looking back Houston should have got the call.......but just like Mike Renfro himself said, he wasn't sure deep-down they could have won that even if they'd tied it at 17 right then. If Renfro forgave the refs, that counts with me.
However, I almost wish Houston had won in '78/'79 to then go on and beat Dallas in the '79 Superbowl. Not only because the Oilers deserved it, but it might have kept the idiot owner Adams from moving them........who knows?
Even though I grew up idolizing Terry Bradshaw, I have to say Pastorini was underrated- he only missed 5 games in 9 YEARS!

@@juliansmith1951 Another good example. Some teams have outstanding talent to be a championship team but it's the wrong time because of another team's greatness. Bruins vs Montreal late 70s. Maybe the Milwaukee Bucks in the 80s but the Celtics and 76ers ruled the East during the 1980s. How about the Peyton Manning Colts in the 2000s early on when they had to play against the great New England Patriots teams in the playoffs or AFC Championship games. Yes the Colts finally broke through one year just like the Oakland Raiders with all their talent finally did against those Steelers in the 1970s.
