one thing thats been weighing on my mind is how as a returning warcraft 3 player i am supposed to choose between an outdated version of the game lacking some nice features and probably containing dangerous exploits (1.27) and a tainted mockery of the game wearing the originals skin and forever linked to a terrible launcher (reforged). your work here is to an extent going to allow people interested in the game to play in a way that isnt reliant on enshittified software from a corrupt company and i love you so much for that that i'll even forgive your use of java for this
@@Healnavi Is it worth making maps for? Will I have to relaunch the editor multiple times just to be able to click on a unit in a pallete? The issue that was introduced in one of those prereforged versions.
11man this is so ridiculous, i love it! I hope you finish this just for the shits and giggles if nothing else. But amazing skill to get this far, cheers!
It would have to be free as Microshaft would probably get ants in their pants if he charged for anything vaguely related to their product. Technically I guess it's an entirely separate engine he's made that just *happens* to run seamlessly with War3 assets, like OpenMW, but if it becomes an actual product it would be on very shaky ground legally. Besides, madmen that do this kind of thing are always based open source enjoyers, it's about sticking two fingers up to corpo greed and apathy as much as it is about making the game better ;)
@@chavzone my greatest fear about its legality would be its capability of playing custom maps legally as blizzard did do that "custom maps of our games are 100% our IPs" for screwing up with dota

Or you can pick a third option like Community Edition (1.29 with niceties added)
Java is low-key unforgivable, but if it works, it works. I will unforgivably play it if it's good enough
@@jerrygreenest honestly Javs is probably fine in the context of a very old game so whatever

Somehow it's satisfying to watch just by how 90% authentic it looks yet being made from scratch

I love this project and open source engine recreations in general (platform/architecture independence is wonderful). So thank you for this!!! :D
It's consistently impressive how good this looks.
Woah. Dude. That's seriously impressive. Have you considered open sourcing this, letting others contribute?
Source has been available online for 5 years: github.com/Retera/WarsmashModEngine

when are going to release it and would it be free?

amazing work as always. Love to see it.
I can't wait to play Yoshi Tag in cursed java edition
Retera you are my hero!
Holy hell. I can't even begin to imagine the amount of work it took to RE this.
I'm gonna go nuts when I see some vampirism multiplayer gameplay.
I for one never understood why people care about law when China does not? If China can put pokemons into WarCraft, why can't we?

You’re doing gods work
cool map :) would custom triggers like -save load codes work in this?
Custom trigger support is at about 50% functionality. Totally depends almost at random whether I bothered to add the particular feature yet
This open GL version was too high for me.
Nice project man.
My Librem 5 phone has the same problem.
This is amazing :o
whatever the question, the answer will be always yes!
This map looks so cool. I it was released
This fiery guy looks lile the greater rage demon from Dragon Age: Origins?

Did you do that java version by yourself?
hero couldn't move, if a unit blocking hero's path, the unit should make a path for heroes.
there's no unit collision in your warcraft3?
Some would ask why
I ask why not
