I have a ‘15 ZL1 Vert M6 and an ‘09 Z06. This February I bought the Z06 with 17k km. I brought it in to correct the valve issues and I did a BTR 2 cam, header s, high flow cats, CAI and a tune and I would keep the vette if pressed to choose one.
The reason these engines have so much power and potential is the same reason the valves drop - GM used a frigging race head on a production car. Not many cars capable of putting 630 N/A whp to the ground with a cam, intake, headers and factory heads. Sure, they could’ve put a regular LS head on it and a 5800 rpm redline like an old fashioned big block, but they didn’t. My Pontiac 455 was out of wind at 5500. 250 cfm flow only goes so far. The LS7 valve stem has less support than the standard LS valve stem, and a significant amount of lift for a production car. Gwaltney’s solution of the longer guide for more support is the best path to longevity. If you want even more peace of mind, stick with the stock stick or limit your lift. That huge stem sweep combined with a short guide, not a mileage master. It’s gonna wear out pretty quick. I bought my car well aware of this, and that’s why I love this car, and I’m glad GM had the stones to offer it in a production vehicle. The maniacal laugh this car generates when I get on it reminds me of the big blocks in small cars back in the day, a 455 Ventura, 440 Duster, 454 Nova. But nowhere near this fun. I was going to take the car out for an hour a few days ago, I drove that thing for half the day, and somehow only used a quarter tank of gas. Had that been an old musclecar it would’ve gone through 2 tanks in that time 😂. Sure, there are faster cars out there, but with the fun factor this car has, I don’t know if there will ever be a car built like this ever again. I didn’t buy it to look at the interior, it is acceptable and that’s all that matters. GM put the money where it matters. It makes me feel like a kid again, and there’s no amount of money in the world that can buy that happiness.
Congrats on the new car! Seats - Go with Sparco Sprint Seats or a Recaro. Use Amsoil 75w90 for Differential (along with Slip Lock). Use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w40 for oil.
I would keep your Corvette and give it some love. The fact that you have a small block 427 is one thing. That is a very sought after engine next to the 427 big block. Just the engine in your car, in good to great condition can fetch close to 3 to 5 thousand dollars. GM is not longer making 427 crate motors. The other thing you should do is go with a coil over suspension. It does make a difference. BIG TIME
My Z06 History with issues. 2007 Z06 17k miles Rear end (never launched just a lot of play) replaced Oil pan gasket Motor mounts Power steering pump Starter Battery Car is solid as a rock now.
Why do you post a video with this title and then ramble for 15 minutes just to convey that you're replacing tires and dampers? And then give advice on oil change intervals without consulting the manual without any real evidence on why you should stray from what the manual says? Also, what makes you think that driving carefully at low oil temperatures is going to prevent engine damage caused by potentially bad valve guides?? This was so frustrating to watch. Either way, amazing car! I'm in the market for one but unfortunately haven't had much luck finding many '09 or later models in my area.
Bull shit my sunset orange is breathtaking absolutely stunning color change of colors throughout the day it was an option at that time and looks better in person. There's not too many of them in that color.
c6 2009 3lt, 26k miles just bought it two weeks ago, got the common gas leak/tank crack, I think the rear right strut/shock is shot makes sounds, and a possible intake manifold leak besides that amazing car
Have the clutch fluid flushed. GM put out a bullitin back in 2019 I believe about the crappy set-up. I just had my '10 GS flushed again for the 2nd time. Dealerships telling me every 2-3 years or 24,000 miles .... hell, it's only got 14,000 miles on it now. 🙃
Nice Vette, congratulations! Do you have plans to inspect the valve guides? I'm sure you're aware of this issue with the C6 Z06; will be expensive if they fail, just curious😊 Really nice car!!
Been interested in the C6Z06 for awhile now and have done alot of lurking on the forum. the ls7 kinda makes me lean toward the GS oe even a 08+ base. too many guys drop big coins having them foxed only to see failure down the road. stock cars go at 30-40k and hci cars have been reported failing not even 20k after its been performed by a reputable shop. perhaps all horror stories. still, a solid 10-15k fix once you become victim. theres another guy on youtube ... has a yellow z06.. dubbed the gtr killer. he bought his to track... soon thereafter, VALVE DROP
had to get a new alternator and fuses for my 2006 z06 cause the car tends to die on me more than my other cars. also got the heads and everything done at ahp and it even gained 80hp from that which was nice
I work for a GM dealer Love the c6,c7 and c8 but I've got a quick question about my FK8 type R what transmission fluid do you suggest I used Acdelco at 30k miles I'm currently at 56k milesand going to change the trans fluid by 60k miles what brand or fluid do you suggest stick with Acdelco or something else?
What do you mean by less desirable colors I personally don’t like the color of your car but I respect your taste and you like the color great is your choice I’m looking for a yellow c6 z and guess what is the color I like and mine is already has NEW heads cam intake msd tb headers shifter etc make long story short every color is beautiful as long as you like it. My c7 z is Watkins glen gray haha some long name no color is better than others Beuty is in the eye of the beholder Good lock God bless
Hi there - I hear a lot of whatever everyone already knows. Bottom line is you got an awesome car that is over a decade old. What's the problem? its a drivers car. Perhaps sell it as you may not deserve it ;) Stop complaining - Live life and enjoy the car. Other enthusiasts would be more than happy to have this car. "engine blow up on you" lol just get the heads done to replace the exhaust valve guides. and ENJOY! peace out.
I'm just here for the Corvette videos. Sorry, but if you sell it, I'm gone.

I'd keep it. but I maybe biased since I own a 07 z06 lol.

Peace, if you don't need to sell it, I'd keep it like it is. You don't have to track it, you have the FL5 for that 🙂
👍💪✌

"less desirable color" there is no undesirable color for this car, except maybe for silver.

Appreciate the video but man... this could be a lot shorter if you didn't spend half the time talking about all your other cars.

The cylinder heads are a problem area, Ktech can fix them or replace them with ARF

The C6 Z06 is great, but it's not better than a 6th gen ZL1 1le.
What's the price comparison?
Silver is the best color, just like mine!

The tires on my C6 grand sport are old and dry rotted. Guess it’s time to spend about $1500 on new tires.
I'm here for the vette, and only the vette!
Nice car,nice video
Just saw you're video on this topic...Question answered...😊

I have a 14 C7 & a 20 Toyota Corolla Nightshade. The rock chips are awful on the Toyota. The Japanese cars must have thin soft paint brah 🤷♀️
Your upper control arm looks like it was used for a hammer.....that big hole might be an issue.
