This song by Depeche Mode caused quite a stir in Germany. Why? The video is full of clips from the NS film Olympia-Fest der Völker. This put Rammstein into the "right" spectrum, although they are definately "left" oriented. To show this they recorded Links,2,3,4. But the press still eye Rammstein with a "right" tinge, which is completely unwarranted.
The good old Leni Riefenstahl. Not without controverse.

Leni Riefenstahl is regarded as a technical pioneer who used innovative film techniques such as slow motion, dynamic cuts and impressive camera work that still inspire filmmakers today. The Olympic film, from which Rammstein used footage, was considered a masterpiece at the time.

One of the most controversial video from Rammstein. They used videos from famous german director Leni Riefenstahl. Controversial because Riefenstahl was a German movie director who made propaganda for the Nazis.

A rare cover that came about when Rammstein were approached to contribute to the Depeche Mode tribute album, For the Masses. Richard Kruspe is a big fan of Depeche Mode so it was a no brainer for them really. Till couldn't sing the full line of the chorus- let me see you stripped down to the bone- his tone is too low so it became let me see you stripped. The video caused controversy because of its origins but curiously enough they chose images of the influence of propaganda for a song that asks propaganda to me out aside by the listener. Typical Rammstein, controversial, thought provoking, entertaining and brilliant.

Anyone who allows themselves to be persuaded that there are political limitations to art has nothing to do with art. Leni Riefenstahl is considered by many to be the founder of the documentary genre. And not without reason! Any politicization has no place here!

Hi Kev, great response as always. This is one of my favorites. The video caused a scandal because the director and the band used images from the film "Olympia" by Leni Riefenstahl. But they only did this for aesthetic reasons and not for National Socialist reasons, as was exaggerated by the media.

i am a bit late ... its intresting to see that you get the message but you cant get all the meaning and poetry in this video. The video footage is from a Nazi Movie made by Leni Riefestahl ... the most gifted female director on the planet to that time. She was nazi and until today she is still nazi( she is still alive). I think she let the Nazis pay for the first womens porn in history. She was ruthless ... and gifted. btw ... Depeche Mode is still pissed that Rammstein made a better song out of this ( ... i think they have a private battle with the piano guy) They tried to cover f.e. "Mein Teil" ... twice.
