- While searching for land on a local real estate site in Grand Rapids, Michigan, a husband and wife kept coming across photos of a grim-looking house in a wooded area of the city. They tried avoiding it, but their real estate agent eventually persuaded them to go see it.
As for ideas, the homeowners say they studied Houzz every night on their iPad while lying in bed to come up with layout choices, furnishings, color schemes and even the design of a staircase. They then picked out all the materials, light fixtures and furnishings online

For anyone with dogs, that hose-down area in the mudroom is like a dream come true.

I'm so jealous, you have a fantasic home, this would be my dream house. Everything is so beautiful and so peaceful quite, I like the bit about seeing the wild animals in your back yard.
I love the design, I love the nature, ... I love everything about this house. I would have loved to see some night time footage with the interior lighting as well. The part which makes this home an absolute luxury is how close he lives to his job. I absolutely hate where I live, but I'm okay with it because my work is 3 1/2 miles away.

I like the master bedroom and kitchen how its both modern, simple and elegant. However, this house is way too big for me which means too much cleaning.

Very Similar to the Frank Lloyd Wright 1920's design concept. Open floor plan, good interagration of the inside to the outside landscape and the utilization of natural light. A FLW masterpiece in the 1920s.

Somehow YouBoob recommended this to me. Love the house, it has a very Frank Lloyd Wright feel to it. Love the Mud room or as the English would call it, The dog room.
When I start designing homes every garage will lead into the laundry/Dog/Shower room so that the kids can rinse off and take off their dirty clothes from sports.
The Flat roof would be an issue for me because over time water tends to saturate the flat roof and cause issues. I saw some standing water in the aerial shot.
Interesting closet concept. The bedrooms look very cozy, lots of use of stone and wood. I am looking at some large plots of land to have my own woods and play area.
That Herman miller chair is nice. They aren't cheap.
The kitchen works I am going to assume the island is quartz? At first I didn't think that marble back splash would work but somehow it does. The lighter wood cabinets make it work.

I love the personality that this house has, today homes just look like warehouses. No body puts their stamp on the home anymore and to me that’s what’s makes it a home.🥰

I would have to paint the outside a different color. But I really like the house. It's not too dark. Really the only time huge bedrooms and bathrooms are needed is when providing care for the sick or elderly. I never sit in the chairs in my bedroom. Well done and I'm glad you appear young enough to enjoy it for many years.

.. though it must be ignoring living on 20 acre and still be worrying about what the neighbors can spectate into the Windows (could see a big development just next to the house).
I am very much on the architects side on the bedroom thing, why do people want a big bedroom showered in light? I enjoy getting up in the morning, sneaking out so I won't disturb my wife sleeping in a few hours more in our small quiet and dark bedroom. I also enjoy having access to my clothes and master bathroom without having to cross through my 200 foot bedroom..

My parents commissioned and built a house and adjacent motel designed by John Randal McDonald. It was built in Dunedin, FL in 1958/59, when McDonald had moved his practice to the Clearwater/Dunedin area. Originally named the "Jama Motel", when I last checked a decade ago, it and the house still existed , despite horrible and entirely unsympathetic alterations, as the "Art Motel". Friends of McDonald's, my parents moved to St.Croix, USVI in 1964, where McDonald had also relocated. My father's construction company built several McDonald homes there as well.
I was really hoping that they had more info on the train, because nothing goes together better than a nice untouched forest and a scenic railroad running through it
