as we attempt to form the Holy Roman Empire - a poor man's Byzantine Empire. Forming the HRE simply revolves around BASICALLY CONQUERING EUROPE - a HORRIBLE VICTORIA 3 CHALLENGE INDEED. In any case, if you enjoy Victoria 3 suffering, this is the video for you as I slowly lose my mind.

Forming the HRE here seems to have the same problem as forming Rome in EU4. The prerequisites are so extreme that by the time you're allowed to form it it's already the end of the game and you have no time to actually make use of the formable nor does it have any neat ideas or missions.
Well Rome has neat ideas (and some missions, but you've probably completed them all by the time you form it). It's just that by the time you form it, as you say, there's little point in them.
Yeah, I think part of the problem is that the macro focus on nations instead of characters (like in CK) means that controlling a bunch of land just means less interactions since you can't really interact with yourself in EU.
Best idea I can come up with offhand is something like a dynamic mission tree. You start off as Byz (or whoever) trying to survive, and when stabilized you can choose to become the de facto East Roman Empire and your mission tree changes to reflect that, continuing on until the end.
I mean, with formables in Vic 3 it does literally nothing except a name change. So there's nothing to make use of.

Wish they'd make a more diplo focused way to do this (or just have it so nations in general can form something similar). The HRE was a mess in EU4 as well, but it was my favorite feature in the game just from the slight amount of CK-like interaction going on between the member states. We need more of that!

I feel like this would be easier to do as Prussia because you can just peacefully merge with the little German countries.
It makes more sense as Austria though since they were the actual emperor for most of the HREs history

technically you could've formed germany first before forming the HRE, as you can go from an empire to a hegemony. it would've been so much easier to launch a unification play against all the german minors instead of puppeting a few every couple years ;)
Laith, the clip at 37:54 demonstrates an error in your knowledge of how GPs come to be. I have seen you make this mistake before, so I pray that my comment somehow finds my way to you.
For a country to become a GP, need only be:
1. Recognised
2. Not subject to any other country
3. Prestigious enough (at least 5 times the global average or 0.75 times the global highest prestige)
If a country is unrecognised, they need to fight a GP to become recognised, but *recognition is not the same thing as GP status.* Uruguay at the beginning of the game is recognised. They do not need to force recognition to become a GP. They in fact *cannot force recognition. The war goal is not available to nations which are already recognised.* If Uruguay gained 250 prestige instantly at the beginning of the game, they would become a GP. That's it. No war is necessary. Paraguay could simply develop £75M GDP and they would become a GP. This is because *Paraguay starts the game as recognised. They do not need to force recognition to become a GP.* The Great Qing does. But forcing recognition doesn't instantly make you a GP either. If Sokoto at the beginning of the game managed to force recognition against Great Britain, they would become a minor power. That's it. Sokoto does not have enough prestige at the beginning of the game to become anything other than a minor power.
Also, being the junior partner in a customs union counts as being the subject of another power. It's dumb, but it's impossible to become a GP while in the French market. Unless you're France, of course.

I did it as Germany and formed the Pan European technate. Turns out forming Germany peacefully and taking everything else by force is super effective
The thing I've remembered since release is that if u play as Austria then u take Bavaria and Hesse-Kassel into your customs union and therefore cut the Prussians of from their steal industry in the west.

Glad to see you’re still playing Vic3! Seeing as you can form the HRE and Rome and all the important titles, plus colonization, plus Russia already exists, there’s no reason for you to play a boring ass campaign like playing as a colonial Novgorod that doesn’t form Russia in EU4.
