Another terrific vlog Caroline. Well done and thank you. I love the shot of Pete with Hamish and Poppy. The Sharpness canal looks amazing; it's all so beautiful and calm. Your vlogs offer a welcome respite from all the craziness out there. Thanks again.
Visiting with you through your vlog is always a treat. Highest respects for the time and effort you put in to share your adventures. All the best to Pete, Hamish and Poppy.
I've travelled all over England when I lived there but mainly cities, and it's down to you guys that I've been able to see beautiful places that I never got to or knew about. Thanks 👍
That's why this canal cruising is so interesting - this countryside is often not even very visible by the roadways unless you travel around on small country roads, and mostly people use the highways to get where they are going as fast as possible - entirely missing the best scenery !!! Even the English often do not know how beautiful it can be !
What a lovely cruise and vlog. Love your doggie back pack too. Looks a lovely canal. No locks. No tunnels. And manned bridges. Sounds perfect lol. Best wishes ❤
I have always loved all of your blogs and really do appreciate on how much effort that has been put into with all the recording and editing that is done before posting your blogs of your journey on your beautiful narrow boat home. Also i would like to wish Caroline, pete, Hamish, poppy, Alex all a very Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 & a Happy New year to you all
I think this vlog just might be one of my favorites. The lovely old bare tree was stunning. I think I could have paused and sat with it for a while. Quite peaceful. Thanks for another wonderful vlog and sharing your journey.
That’s just wonderful to hear! Thanks so much. You’re in for a treat with the next video, with the story of the ships graveyard. Since we filmed it, I have been excited to edit the footage and photos and find the perfect music. I’m half way through it now and think it’s one of my most favourite videos yet, almost as much as our Pontcysyllte Aqueduct video! Stay tuned 😊
Thanks for another year of videos (even though we seem only to be in August!!). You are a delightful alternative to this troubled world of ours. We wish you and yours a very happy christmas.
How delightful and peaceful!you catch so much beauty and I love how you describe the history you encounter !Of course, then there. Is Hampshire and Poppy💓💓💓🎶Be safe
Not brave enough but more enjoying travel many thing you see and happy travels as your family plus you have great company with your dogs there nothing wrong about not brave enough! I notice that wife and husband and dogs more pleasure traveling more learning old history narrow boat I think more than 200 years ago where they start it you have good memories and great capital narrowboat !❤
Pete and Caroline another great vlog. Love the scenery along the canal. So different from the other canals. Nice not to have to open bridges or locks. Hope you and the doggies have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years.
Another peaceful vlog the Sharpness seems more like a river than a canal so wide. Not having to work the swing bridges makes it easy on you. One dog back pack clever. Neat to see the estuary but maybe not so good to venture out on it. The boat grave yard i am looking forward to see that in your next vlog. Stay safe and well out there, Ed 40 S of Vegas
Ditto to all the lovely feedback a great vlog as always. Caroline it must be a treat for you not having to jump off the boat to tend to the locks all the time . Keep them coming and have a great weekend.
Thanks so much Gary! It’s all lovely to get so many wonderful comments on the vlogs. Very reassuring! The G&S Canal was definitely far more relaxing for me, but I did miss getting my steps in! 😊
Stunning cruise on that wide canal. Navigating the Severn is definitely not on my to do list 😱. Poppy wasn’t interested in a treat, she definitely wanted her ball but praising Hamish always gets her attention 🥰. Perfect music to accompany this vlog too. Xx
It was a very different experience that the narrow canals for sure! I’m not sure if we will ever put the Severn Estuary in our to do list! We’d rather go the long way round to the Kennet & Avon canal. You know Poppy so well to know she will immediately come running the minute she hears anyone praising Hamish and not her, such a little diva 😂❤️
Was following your route in my old Nicholson's South guidebook and spotted the Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust near Patch bridge. We visited there in 1981 on our way to pick up our first narrowboat to cruise the Llangollen and Shroppie. Great memories and the beginning of a long love affair with UK and French canals.
Glad we were able to bring back some lovely memories for you! We wish we had had more time to enjoy the beautiful Gloucester & Sharpness Canal to be able to visit everywhere we wanted, like the Wild Fowl trust, but we were worried about getting off the River Severn before the typical high water season arrived. We will definitely be back! 😊
Thanks so much as always! I think it’s a mix of paid employees and volunteers that operate the bridges but definitely quite a short stretch with so many manned positions 😊
It’s just gorgeous isn’t it, with those views over the Severn estuary. We absolutely loved it, and are so happy we made the decision to go down the G&S Canal instead of heading north on the Severn. Thanks for watching! 😊
Way-hey, didn't have to manually change to undubbed, thanks! Another incredibly enjoyable cruise, well underlayed with appropriate sounds. As an Eastmidlander born & bred, I have no idea of the geography of Gloucestershire, so was surprised to discover (on my map), that the hills visible at 6:47 across to the east are not only the Cotswolds, but that bit of them I once spent a very pleasant week at (Woodchester & Nympsfield). I think you are VERY wise not to venture out onto the Severn. That river has a reputation.
We are avid watchers of your vlogs. We are huge westie fans having Cotton Tail and our late Poppy Pickles. We have a new edition, Benji, a miniature yorkie
How wonderful Jackie and what fabulous names! Love that you had a Poppy too ❤️ I know you’ll agree that westies are the best. We are totally biased of course. I’m sure Benji will add some fun to the mix. I think you visited the boys on Morning Star when we were away last week? I remember them telling us about a westie called Cotton Tail! Thanks for watching 😊
That canal is so wide - You could do 360s!! Those barges look so lovely - think of all the space! Did you open up the engine and run full throttle? That must be fun. That estuary is BIG water, and looks like a lot of rip tides - not sure I'd want to get on that in a narrowboat. The magic word treat didn't work? Ah the BALL...
I'm so sorry my whole message disappeared... Preparations for Christmas have left me little time for RUclips but I'm so glad that a bit of embroidery tonight gave me the opportunity to sit by the computer. I wouldn't have wanted to miss Hamish being chauffeured in his backpack. Hope he was comfy in there and Poppy wasn't too jealous! Best wishes to all of you for a lovely Christmas and I hope this will turn into a couple glasses of champers and a bit of cake for the holiday. I'm always grateful for your vlogs and I look forward to the cruises to come in the new year.
Merry Christmas to you and your family Rainey! Glad we gave you a little break from all of your preparations. I'm sure if Hamish could smile he would when we put him in his backpack 😊
The only problem I have with your videos is when poppy and Hamish come on, my little dog attacks the tv screen with his tail wagging, when he sees dogs in real life it's all friendly but on the telly he goes mad. 😂
Thanks so much Pam! It was a very different canal for sure, all that wideness to just turn around wherever we wanted! We are currently on the Llangollen Canal heading for the Llangollen basin and hoping the fallen trees are removed to let us get there by Christmas. You’ll start seeing the Llangollen Canal vlogs in a few more weeks 😊
The Severn is definitely worth it to get to the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal Swanny! Such relaxing cruising and absolutely stunning views, and the Purton Ships Graveyard is just something else. I'm just editing that next video now in time for Christmas 😊
Great vlog Caroline you did an excellent job of filming this bit of the network. We have not done it so interesting to see . Are all those swing bridges perminantly manned?
We can highly recommend it David and Ruth! We are so glad we took the time to head south on the Severn and on to the G&S, as we were really in two minds, not wanting the worry of being on the river in flood! 😊
You pass through Splatt bridge twice - at the end of the last video and the start of this one. Did you have retrace your steps to find a suitable mooring?
Yes you can Christine, that is the way we came. Grand Union to the Stratford-Upon Avon Canal, then onto the River Avon at Stratford, then join the River Severn at Tewksbury, down to Gloucester and then onto the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal. If you go back quite a few episodes on our channel you can see us take this exact route. It was an absolutely wonderful journey. Good luck 😊
We are definitely happy with our decision to leave Texas and move back to the UK for this much simpler and more affordable lifestyle. Thanks for watching 😊
Pete and the dogs, wonderful in such a beautiful place. Very special indeed!
Another terrific vlog Caroline. Well done and thank you. I love the shot of Pete with Hamish and Poppy. The Sharpness canal looks amazing; it's all so beautiful and calm. Your vlogs offer a welcome respite from all the craziness out there. Thanks again.

You’re so welcome! Lovely comments like yours make it even more worthwhile 😊
Your journey is truly charming ❣️ Love the scenery & the music too... Thank you for this lovely channel
That’s so lovely to hear! Thank you so much 😊
Caroline, I love the picture of Pete with Hamish and Poppy! Lovely scenery, relaxing vlog. Thank you, as always!
You're so welcome! I really need to get that photo in a frame, I love it too 😊

Well done both, another very interesting vlog. So much history on that canal. Must have been great having so much space on the water.
Thank you. I always enjoy your videos and look forward to my weekly fix. Wishing you both a very Happy Christmas. X
Thanks for another year of videos (even though we seem only to be in August!!). You are a delightful alternative to this troubled world of ours. We wish you and yours a very happy christmas.
Thanks so much! We travelled so many miles over the summer months it’s been taking ages to edit all the footage, but we will catch up eventually 😊
How delightful and peaceful!you catch so much beauty and I love how you describe the history you encounter !Of course, then there. Is Hampshire and Poppy💓💓💓🎶Be safe

Lovely viewing
That's wonderful to hear Alison! Thanks for watching 😊
Missed it you answered the question about the bridges being manned. That must be very expensive for the CRT. As usual great music❤
Thanks so much as always! I think it’s a mix of paid employees and volunteers that operate the bridges but definitely quite a short stretch with so many manned positions 😊
Thank you two for the ride 😃
Our pleasure! Always lovely to hear you enjoyed it 😊
That's one of our favourite moorings.
It’s just gorgeous isn’t it, with those views over the Severn estuary. We absolutely loved it, and are so happy we made the decision to go down the G&S Canal instead of heading north on the Severn. Thanks for watching! 😊
Such unusual boats . . . which each one having their own story to tell, if one listens.
You are so right Ron. We always say that everyone has a different story as to why they are on the water, and the same goes for the boats too 😊

Lovely! Looking forward to the next ep. I have a friend who lives down that way (Whitminster) and I've seen her photos of the ship's graveyard.
Merry Christmas to you all.

20:04 The remains of the old Severn Bridge railway bridge
Hi guys another great vlog as usual that must be a really nice feeling all that wide open water where are you guys today in December 😊
Thanks so much Pam! It was a very different canal for sure, all that wideness to just turn around wherever we wanted! @onedaymoreaboard ok no worries I'm also a subscriber of chugga bug and I've watched their vlogs on the Llangollen canal and it looks really nice 😊
Me thinks a good idea to give the Severn a miss………but the canal looked a breeze with all the bridges manned and no locks, cheers Swanny
The Severn is definitely worth it to get to the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal Swanny! Such relaxing cruising and absolutely stunning views, and the Purton Ships Graveyard is just something else. I'm just editing that next video now in time for Christmas 😊

Is it possible to get from the grand Union canal onto this route
Yes you can Christine, that is the way we came. Grand Union to the Stratford-Upon Avon Canal, then onto the River Avon at Stratford, then join the River Severn at Tewksbury, down to Gloucester and then onto the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal. If you go back quite a few episodes on our channel you can see us take this exact route. It was an absolutely wonderful journey. Good luck 😊
Fantastic lifestyle. Way better than the tax plantation the U.S has become.
We are definitely happy with our decision to leave Texas and move back to the UK for this much simpler and more affordable lifestyle. Thanks for watching 😊
