    Excellent video! You did a great job showing way more video footage of the race course than the majority of the Leadville 100 MTB videos out there. Thanks for sharing this video!

      Thanks. I messed up a bit turning it on/off with my long finger gloves. Didn't mean to record the bathroom break. (still G-rated.) But yea, happy with how it turned out and my son and I worked on the headings to help viewers. Next year hope to improve on this.

      You did a fine job! Laughed at the "bathroom -break" and my wife said "oh my"! Iv'e been caught by the Police out on road rides going wiz and they didn't do anything thank god! Good luck and hope to see your video for next year as this current one gave me lots & lots of inspiration. Would love to do this race but training for it is just about impossible due to the extreme heat of summer where i live. Still put it on my bucket list though. Take care brother and be safe!

    Thanks for this comprehensive view of the first half of the race. Lots of stuff I haven't seen in other videos. Hope you made the cutoff and got your buckle.

      Thanks! I inadvertently lef the camera on but vid ended up ok. Cracked on Columbine, walked from mile 48.4-51.5 but I made all the time cuts and finished, but out of a buckle. Came back in 2019 in much better shape but crashed just before Columbine and was knocked out of the race. Was set for the training camp and 100 again in 2020 but it was cancelled due to covid and I chose not to risk all the planning again and risk another cancellation for 2021. I entered the lottery this year with a team of 4 but we didn't get in. Plan is to race Whiteface in July and hopefully get in the race for summer 2023 to buckle. Good luck if you're racing it. Remember to eat, it's the most important part.

      @@davidberson1126 I didn't make the lottery this year either but I'm all signed up for the stage race which may be the best way to go for my first introduction to the course. Hopefully I'll place well enough to get a coin and I'll come back for '23. Agreed, eating and hydration are the biggest things you can do on race day, well besides not crashing :-)

    I noticed, during the first part of the race, that you were slowed down significantly due to the "traffic jam" coming out of the white corral. How much time do you think you lost due to this?

    • @davidberson1126
      @davidberson1126  8 месяцев назад

      Hi RIchard, probably about 10-minutes from what I recall. The more annoying aspect was the starting/stopping or some competitors taking bad lines or chances to get around others. Best to be patient, smart, and accept we're all facing the same obstacles. In 2022 they had rectified the problem a bit however I believe we're pack to a mass start, "serenety now."

    Thanks for posting, and congrats on finishing, strong work. I'm curious as to what corral you started in and what your finish time was.

    • @davidberson1126
      @davidberson1126  6 лет назад +1

      Thank you. I started in the white corral which I believe all first timers are assigned unless they qualified somewhere else, so way in the back in the last group. At one point I had moved up significantly and was on a 10-10:30 pace but cramped on Columbine at mile 48.4 and walked most of the way up. Worked hard back to Powerline to make 2 cuts and had shot at buckle but cramped again later finishing in 12:38.

      At under 13 you still got a finishers medal, so congratulations, no small achievement.

    Great video. I may have missed it, were riding a hardtail? How did you acclimatize for the race?

    • @davidberson1126
      @davidberson1126  5 лет назад

      Hi Rob, thanks. I was on a FS bike in 2018 and again in 2019. I hope to have my hard tail ready for 2020. Really two ways to approach the altitude, come in just before and race before your body gets tired from producing more oxygen or come in a few weeks early. In 2018 I flew in the Thursday before to Colorado Springs, up to Leadville Friday, and raced Saturday. I cracked on the Columbine climb at mile 48.4 but I believe it was due to not drinking enough. I finished but in 12:38. This year I came out July 20th, got in the best shape of my life, and crashed out at mile 36. Ce'st la vie. I hope to do the 2020 stage race first and then the 100 if I get in through the lottery.

      @@davidberson1126 thanks a ton! I entered the lottery for 2020 and am entered into Wilmington Whiteface 100 in hopes of getting a coin. My plan was to get there 10 days early, but my wife qualified for US Nationals triathlons age championship the weekend before, so....

    How much to enter the lottery?

    • @davidberson1126
      @davidberson1126  4 года назад

      Currently there is no cost to enter the lottery but when selected you are charged for the event. In the past we paid a $10-$15 lottery fee which went to a local charity if not selected.

    Okay so I have watched this video four X's..... David your fitness is on point..... I mean this comment as only a suggestion. 1. Stop talking and concentrate on the down hills. #2 you seem a little reluctant to go fast on the down hill...#3 Let the bike do what it is designed to do, you never seem to settle in and enjoy that full suspension. Did you piss on my bike and Colorado has Rattle Snakes #4 I take back doing this course on a 27.5 and fork, full suspension all the way. Now I am not a mountain biker but I love speed, Nasty fast hardcore blow my hair back unadulterated speed. How fast was the downhill 40 MPH section that was the fastest. Getting passed by a tandem isn't happening on my watch. Great ride, but you left that buckle on the road power line the commentary and timid downhill sections. I say this as a friend I would think you want criticisms from a friend and not a stranger. I want to do this ride next year and I want it bad. Its hardcore and I would love to have a dig at it. Lets get together and plan a trip 2020. Brothers love for ya Maresca

      Michael Maresca Sr. You should sign up to volunteer this year so that your more likely to win a lottery spot next year. Tandem riders passed me both directions, they were strong. 29-hard tail this time. I was on 10:30 pace till some dehydration hit me. Won’t happen again.
