Earlier this year I had a rare (for me) opportunity to hear these bad boys in person. I still can't believe the sound. So rich and warm it remined me of swimming in the deepest, most beautiful body of water surrounded by great white sharks so mesmerized by the sound they didn't even notice me. What a moment to say the least. Yes, there are better or and different sounding speakers and these are in no way the overall best that I've heard, I'm simply describing the lasting impression I got from listening to these awesome speakers up close and personal with no interruptions or huge crowds. It was damn near perfect,, for me!

Maybe it was the music we were listening to (Dire Straits: You and Your Friend, Your Latest Trick) the set up or just me extremely excited to finally hear these in the manner I was afforded. If I recall these were paired with Bryston 28BssT2's.
For me they're definitely the best under 50 grand (and can be had for under 20 grand used or demo, something you rarely see for a B&W 801 D4 for example). To get to the next level you'd need something like the Sonus faber Aida 2 for 120 grand.

However, I'll be honest, I just don't like the look of these Focal Scala Utopia Evo speakers. I have a pair of B&W Diamond 804 D3 here. I know the Scala Utopia Evo are in a different league. Love the content even through the iPad. I would love to hear something a little different in a future video like Stevie Ray Vaughn Tin Pan Alley or a really good female vocal like Queen Latina’s remake of California Dreamin’ or maybe Euge Groove’s Get’em Goin’.
Excellent, I love this easy jazz but wonder how they would resolve more complex music. Maybe record/playback various genres, rock, pop, modern jazz etc. How do they cope with strong bass for instance, does it overwhelm or is it in balance? Some youtube reviews playback the same pieces of music so people can make a comparison. Think your videos are great, some fabulous gear. It's likely viewers are trying to quantify a purchase by listening, so various types of music on the same system may help. Best regards

To be fair you could wire up a cupla buckets on that system and it would sound good - I have the V1 of these (not sure which ones these are) running off a couple of Mark Levinson's 330's and they are the bomb - thinking of upgrading to the McIntosh - but because of a little thing called money I am not allowed to as apparently holidays are more important - my view is music is for life whereas a two week vacation is at it sounds - two weeks!!!!!!!

Try to record normal music and your video will sounds like shit all distorted. This is why all the RUclips videos with an hifi playng use this audiophile songs, because are so easy that neither your phone distorts

Safe to say these Focals are the airiest sounding speakers Ive ever heard on this channel and in real life.
I think Martin Logans shown on this channel give them a good run for their money.

The Mac tube gear seems to thankfully tone down the brightness, but I still think the Sopra, Kanta, and Aria series' are better balanced
