You should hear, if not yet, Fairy Tale - Shaman (Live version). The vocalist is Andre Matos, the same from the first formation of Angra. Amazing song :)
With all due respect to Leoni, this song is and will ever be Andre's song.

Carolina IV is part of Holy Land, the second album by Brazilian metal band Angra. It is a concept album whose theme is centered on the Brazilian land by the time it was discovered in the 16th century (from a European perspective). Title track "Holy Land" contains many indigenous and folkloric influences taken from Brazilian music, but also includes classical arrangements symbolizing Europe at the time. It's an audio version of the Portuguese Odissey. Also, as @didiok7 mentioned, you should hear, if not yet, Fairy Tale - Shaman
In the original formation of the band the piano parts were played by the Vocalist who played it live on stage.
The keyboard player was the original vocalist André Matos, who left the band in the late 90s and died a few years ago of some weird heart condition
Queensryche was one kf the favourite bands of Andre Matos's, then composer of this song.
I love this song, but you should hear it with the original vocalist Andre Matos if you haven't yet

They dont have a keyboard player as a menber of the band. They have a guest keyboardist contracted for the tours.

This album is fantastic
you have right whit the back music, this is one of the songs that you have to put in the study, or hire and orchestra, many arrangements and this is one of my favorite bands.

The intro: "Salve, salve Janaína, Salve, salve Iemanjá, e tudo que se fez na àgua".
Janaína and Iemanjá are the same entity, but in different cultures in Brazil. Janaína is the indigenous entity. Iemanjá, the African woman, was brought by slaves. They are water entities.

It’d be better to listen to the studio version, there are many rhythmic nuances and intricacies that just don’t translate well enough to this live version, especially without the original vocalist.
And the most interesting sections were cut off.
The original compositor was the pianist and singer, but in Brazil there is a culture of backing track, I dont know how it is today, but the music industries are tiny as players, especially classical, so backing track use to happen a lot unfortunately, but the original piano player was so good, Andre Matos studied piano in Germany!
At this tour, the keyboard is played by Dio Lima or Fábio Laguna and he is on the background. A bad habit that Angra took from Helloween, talking about influences lol. Cheers!

Angra Carolina IV sounds good John. I don't like the fact that they used a backing track with the Keyboards either considering this video looks like live performance and you couldn't see the Keyboard or piano player that's like what? The song does remind me of Queensryche and Helloween in the tempo changes and this video must have been the first time I've seen anyone doing any finger tapping on the bass guitar which I thought was pretty cool. I just don't like long 11 minute songs either no need to drag it out so long unless like you said it's a drastic change. I prefer much shorter songs to take care John 🤘
I think it was a way to pay respect to Andre Matos, the former leader of the band and who payed the keys. He died a few years before this video was posted.
Queensrych was one of the influences when they started the band, So you are right! kkkk You really should try Angra - Waiting Silence - Temple of Shadows Album. (The entire album is a masterpeace is hard to choose only one song.
Cause you're not Brazilian you are missing on all of the traditional Brazilian elements this song has and going for stuff that you know like the metal bands you cited. I would advise you to listen to the studio version of this song.....
Too bad it was not with this song's original vocalist, Andre Matos (RIP). The vocalist in the video, Fabio Lione, is originally the vocalist of Rhapsody, and the third vocalist on Angra, but I assume he left the band to focus on Angra? He's got some pipes alright, but from the three vocalists of Angra, I personally like his vocals the least. Andre Matos was the best, of course. And on some songs that was originally Andre's, Fabio is struggling to reach Andre's high notes.
Oh, and about the invisible keyboards player, if I'm not mistaken, Andre occasionally played the keyboards or piano parts of their songs.
I'd rank him 2nd, a bit ahead of Edu. And Fabio has the best (by quite far) english pronounciation among the three
About the keyboard player: the band has one, but even being popular in Brazil and some countries of the world, even the most famous metal bands of the country are not doing a shitload truck of money. They really work on a budget, and including "officially" a keyboard player as an integral member, it means a new logistic that will rise the cost, specially on tour. Brazil don't have one tenth of the infra structure for a metal scene like in the America or Europe. The places to play have bad equipment, the roads are in really bad shape, the transportation is bad and cost a lot, the metal fans in Brazil doesn't have a lot of money to spend going to shows, buying their merchandise, etc... So I really give a pass when Brazilian bands refuse to have more members in the band. It's a matter of surviving.
About the 11 minutes, I disagree. This song has all the elements and things going on to worth the 11 minute duration. We have the tribal intro and finish, the power metal part, the classical/regional interlude, the solos... And we have subsections inside the sections, like the tribal part has the choir singing in portuguese, but a tonal change with the singer starting to sing in english. One band that is failing miserably with song duration where nothing different happens, it's Iron Maiden since the Final Frontier album onwards. Man, that 11, 15, 18 minute songs drags like hell, it's a boredom fest.
About the keys... this is most likely a playback, But.
Ive been to 2 shows of the Holy Land album tour back in the 90's and at that time there was a Keyboard player who played with the band live, but for some reason he was never on stage.. From some angles we could see him on the side of the stage playing.. I think his name was Fabio something.. And the vocalist André would play keyboard only on the main parts.
Probably not the case here though.

When a long song feels like a long song, it's too long.
This song is much better on studio version, it's from the more conceptual album, most likely played here as an homage to the fans

BTW: This song is way overrated by some fans and this version is pure garbage. This is one of the worst pieces from Angra to present to non Angra fans. Cheers!
Agreed. If you wanna present something from Holy Land, Silence and Distance, Holy Land and Make Believe are way better.
