Great vid! Got the GT1K about a month ago. Created over 100 patches as a liveset and run it through my AC30 and Orange TL. AWESOME TONES!!! Now got sell my peddle board and effects on Reverb! The reduction in weight transport to gigs is tremendous. IMHO… this beats helix
Boss' modelling guys must have been receiving a lot of their R&D attention over the past few years. The Katana series, the Nextone, then the Tube-Amp Expander (on my bucket list of gear) and the GT-1000. They keep raising the bar. Nice review.
Thanks again for your vids Leon! Here's some things I'd like to know about: 1. Please try to verbalize how the patches "feel" to play in comparison to, say, an AX8? That's one thing we can't take away from the video but will be the deciding factor in many cases. 2. Preset/Patch management. Can it be used in "stomp box mode", preset mode or a combination of the two? 3. Midi capability. I'd love to know if it can be controlled in the same way as you did the AxeFXIII in your recent video. 4. 3rd party speaker IRs. Can you make it sound better than stock with these? That's it for now!
I think that you treat the GT-1000 as the next all-in-one floor pedal and the successor to the GT-100, you can't go wrong. It's nice to have all the 500 series effects in one box, along with a ton of OD and amp models, upgraded converter chips and flexible signal routing. Thanks for the demo.
You always get a nice sound out of these modelers. I really respect that! You always know how to quickly react and what to change in order to come closer to the result you are after!
General rule of thumb with the GT 1000 is to make sure the OUTPUT gain is set at +10 db. I run into the back of a tube combo and this tweak made a substantial difference. It's an awesome unit the best in IMAO (and I've used em all)
I still have a gt-6. Picked it up early 2000s. Boss seems to have been doing research on modeling for a while. The gt6 has its short comings, but they were trying to make it as good as they could back then. Good to know the 1000 is much improved.
Love my GT. Vid went exactly as expected. Gain switch in the amp block is a basic but excellent additional amp control that is very useful. Also, to change cab types; select the speaker icon in the output you want to work with then select output type to "Recording". You can then change the speaker type to 2x12, 4x12 or whatever. You can load 4 of your own IRs, but I have had zero luck with getting any better results than the built in cab options. The original cabs suck, imo. The X series preamps are for me the best in the unit. X-modded is great. Really all the X stuff is great. For heavy stuff; the Uber can be good. The Recto just straight up sucks, imo. The Juggernaut can be good as well. I do enjoy the Brit Stack after spending some time with it too.
Really good video. I bought one of these when it first came out. Since then it's had lots of free boss updates, which is good. I use it in a 5 cable setup, so it switches the channels on my amp and I can still have effects pre and post... Which is great. That was my primary reason to buy the GT1k so not so happy. Also, the parametric EQ frequency setting is quantized, so you can't set it to 1326Hz, only like 1250 and 1500. Otherwise a powerful multifx, fairly easy to use.
@@LeonTodd what you said about the models in another video is true: the models are not exact copies of existing amps, but if you tweak them you can get good sounds. Your IR makes it sound so much better, even though boss advertise their AIRD based on the interaction between power amp and speaker, which is probably lost with a 3rd party cab IR. Kemper sounded the most true to the original of the ones I tried. But it's not user friendly or maybe too user friendly. I watched some other vids of yours and you are very experienced at tweaking sounds in an instant, know which knob to turn. The resonance control seem to overlap with presence and treble which makes it difficult to tweak the most important part of the tone 1khz-6khz. It feels like I'm desperately applying overlapping filters and just don't get there. I'd should probably just use a good external IR and graphic EQ instead.
Use the eq block to cut some frequenties , that will help alot , and what i do on my gt100, i do a dual amp setup but from the same amp, at the cab section i place one mic to sound bright and the other one to sound dark and blend those two, basicly a dual mic setup in real life

It has a pedalboard mode (where you can set it up as a traditional pedalboard) as well as a manual mode where you can turn off amps/effects/change signal paths/adjust whatever amp or effects parameter(s). It doesn't have scenes per se; but you can use assigns to control a ton of parameters with a single footswitch press. My main preset has a dual amp chain. The X-Modded, gained up and dry is my main tone. Within this same preset; I can toggle to the other amp chain where I have a cleanish, delayed and chorused Boutique amp that can come up with a single switch as well while still staying in the same preset. To get back to the my main high gain sound; I simply step on the footswitch again. It's a little clunky to wrap your head around at first but works great once you get over the initial learning curve. Preset switching is instantaneous so you could also just copy your presets, make the modifications to them on a per song part basis and arrange it that way as well.

Use the eq block to cut some frequenties , that will help alot , and what i do on my gt100, i do a dual amp setup but from the same amp, at the cab section i place one mic to sound bright and the other one to sound dark and blend those two, basicly a dual mic setup in real life
Global high/low cut at 8khz/80hz on this which is my go to with any direct sound
I just want to say I appreciate all of your informative videos.
I recently purchased a boss GT 1000 core.
It sounds pretty awesome but now I’m trying to set the levels on my guitar.
I’ve done everything it says to do but when it comes time to select an option on amp type , There are no instructions on how to select.
I tried clicking every single button that clicks and nothing works.
Is there another button that functions as enter that I’m not aware of?
Did you end up gelling with the GT1000Core? I was considering it for effects loop on my board build.
Hey Can we get A demo of what it would be like to use live. Like Patch change or scene change, how they work and a demo song. Switching from Clean to Distortion and then adding effect like wha. on the fly and on the floor as if we we playing a set. Love your work thanks in advanced
Sure, great suggestion.
U r just awesome . Really help me heaps in my setup of my gt1000. Tqvm
My pleasure!
@@LeonTodd can u do a van haven preset with the flanger n chorus n delay settings. I the juggernaut amp. M anxious to see yr take on the EVH SOUND. I Understand his tone is scooped . Would to know wat u think
I use the juggernaut amp to build mine. Wat would u preset be like
Would you still go with the Fractal Axe FX III over this and why?
Yes. I did a one year review video of the III which outlines why.
can you do a shoot out between different axefx 3 effects vs the gt-1000? also some comparable amp models if possible? really curious how they stack up, particularly the effects.
How do you like this vs the Helix?
This is to Boss and Line6:
Can you get a Gt-1000 Core and a Pod Go, cause i really want Leon's review?!
Cheers from Portugal 🍺🤘🇵🇹
Hey Leon or anyone - are the GT-1000 and GT-1000core presets compatible/interchangable?
Apparently they are!
I have had the Fractal Axe II XL and the AX8 and I much prefer the Boss GT1000 the effects sound more up to date it does not have a lot of preamp models but you can modify the ones inside quite easily
Are you kidding me?
Roberto Marra - U2CURE Not at all I have had Fractal and the Gt1000 better effects and I don’t have to worry about running out of CPU The effects are better more up to date with the 500 series a better faster processor than the AX8
I have the GT-100. These reviews man.. It looks too good! Now I have one of these on order. Sigh
Hi! Do you think the amps (pre-amps) are better in GT.1000?
Id like to hear the different amp tones and how you would set them
Great, I intend to do a . "dial it in" vid with this.
I can't get the Recti Stack sounding good at all, I think it needs a ton of work with pre and post EQ to get it sounding decent. That would be a good one for you dial in.
I'm really struggling with that one, even with heaps of tweaking.
@@LeonTodd I'm not sure much can be done with it to be honest. Likewise the Orange model isnt great, although you might be able to get some good tones from it. The rest of the models are very good, especially Boss's own amps.
Maybe and Moeer GE300?)
Does it have an in built drum machine?
Not that I'm aware
@@LeonTodd Ok thanks - I personally would like that all manufacturers include a drum machine and looper in their multi fx units - By the way, I really admire your very natural and effortless guitar playing.
Does it have a drum machine and looper?
hey what is the signal chain?
I would like to know if they have scenes or if it needs to be used in patch mode only, etc. For live use.
No scenes as far as I can tell.
Which sound more and feel like a tube amp; Fractal AX8 or this?
The GT feels pretty good but the Fractal stuff is in it's own league IMO
@@LeonTodd I take it Ax8 is a bit better then. Thanks for demoing this. You're doing a great job
How do you like this v the helix
What is the guitar you are using
STR LJ-1
Wonder what metal tone can be had????
Awesome, I love boss and your videos this should be fun
BOSS are killing it recently, so many great new products.
What are you playing it through?
oh ok, adam's, fuck my life. haha
If only it wasn't $1,000...
As an Axe FX II user, the Zoom stuff seems like the best price to performance product right now, insanely value in those
...sounds like...if the rubber tree plant took the red pill...and escaped by throwing a chair through a tinted window as a 1000 candles melted over the broken glass that was left...
Does it have HM2 ?
yes
This or the Amplifire brother?
Very not bad! :)
This or the FM3?
*whispers* FM3
direct usb sound?
Yes
Sounds pretty sick so far. Please try to dial in a nice 5150 tone 🤘🏻 if it sounds good then I can just buy one of these for the road instead of lugging around a full sized 5150.
Noted!
I'm always interested in how these units sound when blending two amp models simultaneously if you'd be so kind to demo
mooer ge300 video please.
Would like in depth videos on Kemper like these
You could make microwave sound like a plexi..
I'll have to try borrow one again.
I do have a microwave though...
@@LeonTodd If I weren't playing so much,I'd ship you mine.
Hahaha that would def. be interesting
Info on understanding those studio eq's,frequencies etc..would be awesome :)
Thanks for putting out so much videos...cheers
Leon is the Fractal King! We all gotsa get paid tho.
León next video must be mooer preamp live!! :D
Keen to try that bad boy
🤓I MUCH PREFER : USING 1 OR 2 GREAT TUBE AMP RIGS , USING A CHAIN OF REAL SINGLE EFFECT PEDALS ( AMPS FRONT INPUT) & 1 OR 2 PROCESSING EFFECT RACKS (EFFECTS LOOP : SEND / RETURN) 👍🇺🇸❤ WAY BETTER NATURAL TONE , HARMONICS, SAG & FEEL !!!!!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
