It seems strange that after so many years that Dave Grohl and Courtney Love have ended their decades-long feud. There was a time when the pair was actually civil with one another. At Kurt Cobain's wedding to Love in 1992, no family was in attendance and Nirvana bassist, Krist Novoselic didn't even attend the ceremony thinking that Courtney Love was a bad influence on Cobain. Dave Grohl however, was in attendance and was even seen posing for photos with Love and holding her hand here. So how did things get so sour with Dave Grohl and Courtney Love?
Grohl would appear on the Howard Stern radio show in 1999 and the topic of Courtney Love's band Hole came up and Stern asked Grohl what his favourite Hole song was to which he replied "Teenage Horror" because Grohl claimed he knew she wrote it, insinuating that other people including Cobain wrote Hole's other songs.
Courtney Love responded during her appearance on the Howard Stern Show as she talked about here. "Now it's getting good." "How many times has Dave Grohl been up here Howard?" "Two times, two or three." "And every time he slags me, right?" "Yup." "K." "Did he slag her the last time?" "Yup, every time." "Dave Grohl, of Foo Fighters, you're talking about?" "Yup. Now if you were in a band with me for five years or four years, if Sam wasn't in and I died and my boyfriend started a band or was in a band, you'd know like every riff, know the way that I sang everything. You'd know perfectly well who wrote what, right? So Dave is on this like mission.." "To say that Kurt wrote all your songs." "No, he doesn't do that, he implies it. Which is just even lame enough, but the thing is.." "He isn't saying anything bad."
Three years later in 2002, Courtney Love and Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic would get into a legal battle over the rights to one of Nirvana's final studio recordings, a song called "You Know You're Right". Grohl and Noveoselic had wanted the song for a planned Nirvana box set but Love blocked its release saying the song would have been wasted on a box set. It would have been better suited as a single disc collection similar to the Beatles. Her lawsuit called the song, 'a potential hit of extraordinary artistic and commercial value' and Love's manager asserted that a release with the song could sell 50 million copies. Now former Nirvana bassist, Krist Novoselic revealed that he did not necessarily disagree with Courtney Love at that time saying, "I've always considered everything she said. We've considered it and agreed and said, 'hey that's a great idea, Courtney'. I tried to get along with Courtney as best as I could. There's only so much you can do."
In September of 2002, the lawsuit was finally settled and it was announced that "You Know You're Right" would arrive on a one CD history of the band called Nirvana later that year.
Fast forward five years to 2007 and Foo Fighters would release their sixth studio record Echo Sounds, Patience and Grace. It featured the song, "Let it Die", which was also released as a single and it had the verse that read "a simple man and his blushing bride intravenous intertwined you're so considerate did you ever think of me."
In a recent interview that happened around that time, Grohl explained his feelings on Courtney Love saying, "There are a lot of people that I have been angry with in my life but the one that's most noted is Courtney. So it was pretty obvious to me that those correlations are going to pop up every now and again. I still remain a little secretive about it all" referring to the meaning of the song.
Courtney Love would respond on her myspace blog at the time writing, "As for the drummer, well he's hit on me so many times. He's just a very conflicted guy about me which is why he continually writes songs about me to hear he hates me more than anyone else. Kurt loathed him more than anyone else except a journalist and in his will, he made a codicil that Grohl was no longer a member of Nirvana. I just ignored the guy and will continue to do so. Dave knows this and he takes it out on me. Hey, it wasn't my band and it wasn't my idea. It's funny he hates me since I don't think about him. He's just a sub-mediocre kind of guy who does this nice guy nonsense. There isn't a word he could say that would ruffle my feathers honestly."
Fast-forward two years later to 2009 and the rhythm gaming craze has taken ahold. Guitar Hero announces that Kurt Cobain's avatar will be playable in Guitar Hero 5 which was coming out that fall. In addition to being able to play "Smells like Teen Spirit" and a live version of "Lithium", you could use Cobain's avatar to play every other song in the game including Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name", which shocked many fans. Initially, Courtney Love approved the use of Cobain in the game and then went on a Twitter rampage against Dave Grohl and the publisher of Guitar Hero, Activision.

Kurt's likeness in Rockstar was a travesty. Placing You Know You're Right in the Best of Nirvana was the correct move though. It's a brilliant song and one of Nirvana's best. An amazing farewell from Kurt.

It seems to me that Courtney's property rights, as Kurt's surviving spouse, would extend to Kurt's share in the assets and liabilities of the entity "Nirvana", but that the controlling membership of that entity would include its surviving members only, not the surviving spouse.
Of course that's just boilerplate, and any actual documents signed among the members of Nirvana constituting and defining that entity, and by Kurt relating to his estate, and so forth, would govern.

I was urged by someone to do something similar with respect to my best friend, but he was 36 years old, had been dating her for 7 years, so he was capable of making his own decisions. That would have destroyed our friendship anyway, so I didn't see the point. I was advised by my father never to say anything negative about a guy's girlfriend, because they could end up getting married, and then you will get cut out of the picture by the wife. At the end, Kurt hated practically everyone... I don't think he liked Dave at the end... I sensed it and I remember I called it out long before I saw that interview on Howard Stern in 1999. I was telling my friends that "I have this feeling Kurt doesn't like Dave for some reason". It might have started when the 1993 music award when he shoved a cookie into his mouth or something implying him to shut up or something... Or that Dave seems too happy while Kurt seemed too miserable to be around just about anyone with that jolly type of personality. Idk... That just what I picked up on 20+ years ago.

They certainly went through a rough patch. I don't think Dave would even deny that. Kurt's actions near the end can be blamed on his deteriorating mental health and his drug addiction. I mean he literally punched Krist the last time he saw him. Plus there was the whole royalty cut issue and him wanting to fire Dave from the band. So no, what Courtney said isn't completely made up. I reckon it's exaggerated and out of context but it certainly has a level of truth to it unfortunately.

A friend of mine did T-shirts for a lot of L.A. punk bands - including Hole's. And he said that Courtney was quite literally the worst human being he ever dealt with - and I believe him. Kurt may well be alive today if he'd never gotten involved with Courtney - I can't think of a worse person than she for a sensitive person having a really difficult time with fame & simultaneously fighting addiction. I think Courtney and Kurt were both deeply effed up people and they're might be an element of truth in her words that Dave didn't know how to deal with a couple of drug addicts and was annoyed her loyalities. However Courtney has feuded with a lot of couple and I'm not sure how much I'd trust anything she was. Mudhoney didnt like her, she said some very bitchy things about Pearl Jam whom Kurt kinda realised Eddie Vedder was geunine. Vedder got pretty angry at the things she said. Trent Rezner who dated her hates her and so does Tori Amos after she destroyed her and Rezner's friendship. I'm sorry if one person doesn't like you that could be on them if a lot of people don't like you that's probably on you. She had some talent as a musician and as an actress but she always manages to sabotage herself.

The first time I heard “Doll Parts” and “Violet” back in 1994 I honestly thought both songs sounded like Kurt Cobain wrote them. So I wonder if there isn’t some truth to what Dave Grohl has claimed. Also, over the past 20-something years Dave Grohl has come off as someone with lots of integrity while Courtney Love has acted like an opportunist who would do or say anything to gain fame and wealth.
There are several more that sound like Kurt also. And the Celebrity skin album sounded like Melissa Auf See Maur. So I don't think she is as prolific as she likes to pretend.

I don't remember any booing, but it was nearly 30 years ago, so my memory may not serve me well, but I was far from the only person refusing Kurt's request that we declare our love for Courtney. Most of us knew the second that they got together that she would be bad news for Kurt, and that his relationship with her would be to the detriment of the band. The music press was full of stuff about Kurt & Courtney, and we were all sick of. We just wanted to hear about the music. We had no idea at that point that he'd end up dead; we thought that the worst that could happen was that Nirvana would split. It was like an ongoing soap opera at the time.
So when Courtney said Kurt hated Grohl's guts she lied with the sole purpose of hurting him. I've always adopted a compassionate attitude in relation to Courtney, but now I see why many people call her a liar. Hopefully she has matured since then for her daughter's sake.

There's a huge amount of suspicious behavior regarding Courtney, but no, Kurt didn't write "Live Through This." Some of the songs were played in early forms before Kurt & Courtney met, and everyone else who was on the scene of the recording witnessed the other songs being written/refined during the process, and have stated as such. (Obviously poor Kristen Pfaff didn't live long enough to make a statement, but that's beside the point.) He sang a very small backing vocal, and that was his only involvement.
