Thank you for posting it. Mi dad use to have a W108, 280S automatic from 1970 and the engine sound is the same that our car had. It brought me to my child years
Wow-- excellent video! I just purchased a 1971 Mercedes 280se last weekend, and your tour of the car, and presentation of its history are wonderful!!! Apparently, mine was intended for the German market (everything's in German, speedo in KPH, hand crank windows, 4 speed stick, etc...). It came with no manuals (still looking online for a good one), so your video has been incredibly illuminating..... thank you!!!
I love these! My grandpa had a ‘71 long wheelbase version. I remember the front seatbelts were funky because the shoulder belt was detatchable, allowing you to only wear the lap belt if you wanted.
oh man, been watching this exact videos quite some times. heh, I have some contacts here and there and the guy wants to sell a completely restored 280 SE, 4 door (2.8L manual). It's such a beautiful car. Thanks for the video, was a great watch.
This is a very nice example of a hand made S Class Mercedes. No two cars are exactly the same, although they are pretty close even the power output can very give or take 10BHP. I have owned a few Mercedes vehicles and I still had problems with the eighties model starting up due to the injection needing a service. It's not that bad. :) Beautiful car.
working on a 1969 280se myself...been stored and engine hasn't ran in close to 15 years now. Dashboard is alittle different, cant wait to get the engine running (after countless hours of putting it back to life) and see what all those buttons do! No AC but has an electric sunroof!
i wish my 71 280SE would someday be as nice as this...although I must say that mine starts a little faster than yours...oh well...your is still 90% better than mine at its current state...good videos...keep them coming...
S stands for 'spark ignition' ? 1st time I hear of this..so that implies all the other models without the S designation like 190, 200, 250 etc. don't have 'spark ignition' ?? Then there's also other S-Class models like 300 SD which are diesels so obviously would not need spark plugs for ignition ?! I'll say the S means S-Class instead ?
S actually stands for Sonderklassen in German or special class in English. The E stands for Einspritzen in German or fuel injection in English, and the L in the lwb models denotes longer. SE or SEL. SL in the sports denotes Sporten Leicht in German or Light sports in English. The D denotes Diesel in all models.
Some say Mercedes cars are " over engineered".... I'd say correctly engineered. Built with common sense and saftey in mind....I have always enjoyed German cars and follow the German thinking about driving, as it should be in my humble opinion. great video.
I love the sound of that engine, especially taking off you can really hear the scream during it's acceleration when starting off. Love it.

Great video. I learned a lot about the motor. Thanks.

Love the sounds it makes when it's driven! You got the best of both worlds in 70s luxury!

I like it I always love seeing the classic Benz especially the 280se
Beautiful! Thanks for posting.
it would be great if could create more videos on the 280 SE and the W126, You're the great
Oh how I still know and still like it, that special deep and smooth roaring....
i wish my 71 280SE would someday be as nice as this...although I must say that mine starts a little faster than yours...oh well...your is still 90% better than mine at its current state...good videos...keep them coming...
Great car , excellent condition .Thank´s
Congrats! Nice and useful video....
Love this car , do you still have it ?? Thanks
Really enjoyed the video, thanks for making it. Question -- what should the oil gauge read at during driving and idle? 45 (or "3 bar") all the time?
Back when mercedes made great reliable cars!
Has der interior been cleaned. Any sexe times in it over da years in Sie backs seat. Any shpunken stains on Sie leather.
Great car, take good care of it, especially the feul injection system because its very expensive

To the best of my knowledge, S stands for Sonderklasse en.bab.la/dictionary/german-english/sonderklasse
@@richardscroggs1839 that is correct.
@@richardscroggs1839 they did not use the term "s-class"until the W116. even though the W108 is the predecessor, it's not offical a S-class.
Will Seafoam work?
The 6 cyl and 3.5 all have e 4 speed auto so does the 6.3 .in USA and europe.the 3 speed is for the 4.5 models.

Great. But you should use a wider camera angle

They are both over engineered AND correctly engineered. You are 100% correct , and it's what made the Benz such a dependable vehicle.
Great car but 280 does NOT stand for 2.8 litre engine. There are a lot of 280 se that came with the 4.5 litre v8
Nice
i might do a video of my restoration...but its really far from what your's is. maybe someday...
Schöner Wagen. Leider ein Opa-Auromatik.
